No white dust! Breathing better.
Easy to use, low speed is barely audible. Even medium speed is pretty quiet. Seems well made. I bought some replacement filters so I'll have them on hand. It's not "automatic" meaning no humidity sensor, but it's not really needed. I bought a Antonki 2 Pack Room Thermometer-Hygrometer Indoor Humidity Meter. They work great and are pretty accurate. I'm also using a two part additive to the water, bacteriast & demineralizer. I bought that at Lowe's for about $11.00, a LOT cheaper than anything on AZ. I'll post some pictures and review in a few weeks.A few more notes, I have a few air purifiers and the filters didn't seem to last long, maybe they were removing the white dust my former ultrasonic humidifiers (that went to the ewaste recycle) even though they had demineralizer filters. Ok, you read this far, one IMHO ultrasonic humidifiers fault is the humidity sensor is in the same unit as the humidifier, so sure it thinks there is plenty of moisture. Placing the separate humidity sensor away from them gives a better idea of actual value. :-)Update: week 2. Using the water treatment mentioned above and I clean them every week and have found no mold or anything else growing. Actually, other than the filters having some mineral buildup, they are pretty clean. I soaked the filters in white vinegar/water for about 30 minutes and it removes most of the buildup.Hope this helps...

Excellent humidifier, but you have to understand how to use it.
I bought this a few months ago. At first I didn't like it and was ready to return it. Then I figured out how to use it.This is an evaporative humidifier and works in a completely different was from the ultrasonic humidifiers I had in the past. There is a large, cylindrical filter inside which absorbs the water and then evaporates it into the air with the aid of a fan. The fan is clearly audible but actually works well as a white noise machine. In our bedroom, which is about 25' x 15', we go through about a gallon of water every 12 hours. Here are some pearls about using this unit:-It MUST be on a level surface. At first I had it on a towel over the carpet in our bedroom. This caused the water to be unevenly distributed in the base which in turn led to the filter not being properly moist.-The filter must be wet at all times. In an ideal world this would happen without any effort on the part of the owner, but that is not the case here. Sometimes the top of the filter dries out, resulting in less evaporation/less humidification. The manufacturer (and other users, in reviews) suggest flipping the filter every time the tank is filled. I find that it's sufficient to do it when the tank starts to empty more slowly (i.e., I don't have to fill it as often), which is about every 5-10 tankfuls.-Sometimes the filter gets so dry you have to remove the filter and moisten it under the faucet (this is especially true if the water in the tank runs out. There should be an automatic cut off, but there isn't). It's a bit messy in that you're not supposed to wring out the filter, so it drips all over the place.-The filters discolors from minerals and particulates in the water. This is normal (hey, it IS a filter) and does not interfere with the operation of the unit. One could easily argue that using a humidifier shouldn't require such a long to-do list, and I wouldn't argue the point. Having said that, once you get the hang of it this unit works extremely well, humidifying the air without coating the furniture the was ultrasonics do. I highly recommend it.

Easy to fill and clean. Good for small room.
Works well in a small bedroom. Noise lever on low is acceptable for sleeping. Like the evaporator type since it doesn't spew chemicals into the air. Using it with tap water and haven't had any mineral depost build up yet. Seems well made. Easy to fill and clean.

I've bought so many humidifiers. This is the most reliable
Long story, but the takeaway is that I really like this humidifier.I had a white one of these that someone gave me for free. I had no idea what a great thing they'd given me. I liked how it worked, but didn't like that it had a "filter" (really, more of a sponge) and I didn't like how huge it was. So I gave it away and bought a newer-sleeker looking humidifier for myself. My new replacement humidifier was the ultrasonic type (ultrasonic are the other main type of humidifier: they vibrate imperceptibly and the vibrations send a fog of aerosols into the air, which you can see and is pretty). It was compact, it was all black with no blue/white/whatever to make it stand out. I loved it. I loved it for about three months until it broke. The handle came off while I was carrying the water container back from the sink. Water everywhere, gruesome scene. So, I bought another humidifier (my third). Again, it was the ultrasonic type (because those tend to be the cute, compact, black ones). . . and again it broke after a few months. Not so dramatically this time, just quietly started leaking one day (didn't leak when I first refilled it, no. It waited until I'd left the room to begin leaking on an antique table. Oops). So, $150 later, I swore that I would never buy another humidifier again because the whole industry is garbage and all their products will betray you after the return period closes. Bummer.I lived in dry, cracking squalor for half a year before I finally broke down and went looking to buy another humidifier. Low and behold, my old trusty humidifier was back, in black (or nearly so -- the water bin is a blue stripe on the side). Yes, it's large. Yes, it has a filter that you have to replace (less often if you do it right). Yes, you can't see a pretty fog of water coming out of it to prove it's working. But I love it. It's simple, has less moving parts, and doesn't break. My parents have been using one of their own for a year and it's done great by them.Tips:- If there is water in the bottom tray (touching the "filter"--which is actually serving more as a sponge), keep the fan blowing. Don't let the filter sit in water. This will generally prevent the filter from getting moldy, so you won't have to replace it very often.- If there is no water in the bottom of the tray (the water has run out) -- stop the fan. Otherwise the fan heats the filter so much that the filter begins melting. Especially if the fan is on the highest level (I haven't tested, but I think maybe it doesn't get so hot at the lowest level).- This does get a little tough, to hit the sweet spot. It means when I leave the house, I either make sure the water is filled all the way and the fan on or that the water is gone from the bottom tray and the fan is off.- Open it up occasionally and look at the filter. You'll notice that it does yellow a little from when it gets too hot from the fan. I think this is OK. If you check it semi-regularly, you'll be able to see this and know the difference between this and any ick that would require you to replace the filter.- If you use an ultrasonic humidifier, you have to be careful about what surface you put it on because that surface gets a little wet. This humidifier is a mist humidifier, so the effect is slower but its physical reach is larger. So, that means that you can put the humidifier on any surface and it won't get that surface wet.- I use tap water.

Easy to maintain and keeps humidity at comfortable levels
We bought this product to support our whole house humidifier in the coldest, driest weather. We are using it in the master bedroom (approx. 12 x 20 with a vaulted ceiling). On the medium setting, it raises the humidity about 10% and runs about 20 hours before needing a refill (we use reverse osmosis water). The unit is easy to set up, refill, and clean (top rack dishwasher safe) and is no louder than a small fan. Occasionally there is a slight gurgling sound as the water level drops, but it's certainly not annoying. I'm a light sleeper and really don't notice anything. We have all noticed the improvement in our skin and noses, plus our cats are happy to be rid of all the static. We are very pleased with our purchase and highly recommend this product.

Effective and Easy-to-Clean
Before this, we used an ultrasonic humidifier, which was certainly quieter but didn’t perform as well as this one, so it was a great upgrade for us.Noise: at its second speed, it sounds like an average house AC and does not interrupt sleep.Humidity: we have a 12×11 room, and it humidifies the space very effectively—you can feel the difference without needing a humidity meter.Ease of use: as simple as it gets.Cleaning: much easier than our ultrasonic humidifiers, which had many small spaces that were hard to clean. Cleaning this unit is very simple, though you should remember to flip the filter every night and replace it every month or two.Overall, it’s better than other humidifiers we’ve tried, and I definitely recommend it for small to medium rooms.

Fantastic Humidifier
This little Humidifier is great. I shopped for a month on Amazon looking for something small to medium size for a one story ranch home. In the past I have had the large 2 - 3 gallon units but could not stand the loud fans. So I promised myself when it was time to get a new one noise and convenience would be the big selling points. I took a chance on this medium size Honeywell. It is a great size to fit in a room, it disassembles fast and fills amazingly easy. The tank is maybe a gallon capacity and just pulls out of the frame for refilling and is not heavy when filled. The handle makes it easy to carry and load back in to the frame. Not sure if the blue light to kill bacteria helps but I am believer in it. Everything now a days has an LED light as germ killer. You can barely see it and it goes out automatically when you disassemble the frame from the base. The filter is paper and is getting discolored so I've purchased the life time filter but haven't installed it yet. The fan is whisper quiet on the low of 3 speeds. I do not hear it unless I get within 1-2 feet away. The 2 and 3 speeds are louder and I'm sure push more moisture in to the air faster. I leave mine on the low quiet speed all day long and fill the tank before I go to bed and its still 1/4 to 1/5 filled when I remove it. I have two humidity monitors and both read 30-40% most of the day. I have a large living room with a fireplace which is where I keep it, kitchen, dining room, hallway and bathroom that get any of the air circulation. The bedrooms are too blocked off and too far. So I don't expect much flow there. I have a fire place insert I use for heat all winter long in Western NY. I do have baseboard heating but enjoy the wood burning heat so its a backup. I believe I made a great purchase after a long research period so much I bought another for my 90 year old fathers assisted living apartment. His baseboard heat is set to 80 all day long all season long. It has been keeping the humidity level at 20-30% and is set to the quiet speed. I only have to fill his unit once a day too. Great quiet unit with a small foot print

Defective Humidifier
Reviews should allow a zero rating. That is what this experience deserves. The humidifier did not work. Follow the instructions, fill the tank, soak the filter, set unit on base, plug it in, and nothing. No lights, no hum, no air flow, at any switch position, nothing. Tried several different outlets, still nothing. Checked power, yes we have electricity. The unit is so dead it must be something simple. Take unit off base, find safety switch on bottom, activate switch manually, and the unit runs fine. The problem is with the plastic base. The plastic is either malformed or warped. Tried setting unit on hard floor to better support the base, still nothing. Pushed down to make sure unit is fully seated on base, still nothing. The defective base/switch is a safety feature. If the unit should ever get knocked over, the switch kills all power so someone doesn't get electrocuted. That's a good thing, but nothing I've tried will make this unit work with the base that was provided.Feb 13 - Contact KAZ customer service. Yes, it's some outfit called KAZ, not Honeywell. Got an automated reply saying it will take 1-3 days for them to reply.Feb 19 - Got a reply from KAZ with the usual platitudes. Rather than a solution, this message is asking for more information such as model number, date code, and mailing address. This is all the same information they needed for the warranty registration. They already have the information but it was easier to just reply with the requested info.Feb 23 - Got a reply with a return merchandise authorization number and instructions for returning the defective item. This message also indicates a shipping label will be provided in a separate message.Feb 26 - Finally got a message with a link to print a shipping label.Feb 27 - Shipped defective item to KAZ.Mar 5 - Received confirmation that defective item was delivered to KAZ.Mar 12 - It's been a week since the defective item was delivered to KAZ. We have received zero communication regarding the status of our returned item or any replacement. It really shouldn't take a month to resolve a dead-on-arrival device.Update 14 MAR - Replacement WHITE unit was delivered last night. KAZ did tell me replacement humidifiers were only available in the white model. The new model seems to work as it should. It used a little more than half a tank of water overnight, running on medium setting. Maybe the factory defect is only occurring with the black model. If they had sent me a black one and it worked, I might have added a star or two. Based on this experience I have to recommend not buying the black model.

Still excellent after 5+ years
I bought this humidifier over 5 years ago and it is going strong. Just take care to clean it about once a week with vinegar and rinse and flip the filter daily (and replace it when it gets crusty - but it lasts a long time before that happens) and it will work very well. I keep it running close to 24 hours a day, often on high, but switch to medium or low for very quiet operation. It is apparently rated for use in a room up to 400 square feet, but it does a great job in my 700 square foot apartment, all throughout the very dry Ontario winters. It raises the humidity from 20-25% to 35-45% which makes a significant difference. Helps alleviate dry skin, eyes and nose. I keep it on a little rolling metal cart from IKEA, which makes it very easy to move around. Very highly recommended!

EXCELLENT PRODUCT
This is a very simple yet effective product. It is easy to use: easy to fill and has three settings depending on the level of humidity one is looking for. It is also easy to fill and the filter is easy to replace. As for noise the unit is barely audible on low and medium settings.

Works well as long as the filter is in good condition
This review is based on use over a full winter season of this version of the HCM350 with the internal UV light that is supposed to kill 99% of bacteria, mold, etc.The humidifier was used in a ~130 square foot bedroom during the winter with forced air heating. It was able to effectively raise relative humidity from 20-25% to 40-50%, depending on the speed setting used. We typically had it on the lowest setting for gentle white noise at night; humidity levels averaged in the high thirties to low forties. We live in a hard water area and initially contemplated using distilled water, but at a cost of about $1/gallon and the use of about one gallon per night for the bedroom would quickly exceed the cost of a couple filters. We used tap water and the filter eventually developed a light brown, crusty appearance along its edges, even when flipped daily with each reservoir refilling. This was due to iron and hard water, not due to mould. To prolong filter life, we used two filters during the season on a rotating basis. One in use while the other soaked in a strong white vinegar & water solution until needed. The vinegar solution was effective at removing the hard deposits, but was never able to quite restore the filter to 'like new' appearance (we didn’t try bleach, which might also be effective for those complaining of mould). But this pretty much maintained effectiveness. IIRC, we rotated the filters probably every couple weeks. Eventually the filters lost some structure and were replaced for this winter, but two for a full winter season seemed fairly reasonable. The humidifier was used every night and rarely sat idle longer than 12 hours, therefore can't comment on how the filter would handle being left in a wet but unused state for prolonged periods, which probably isn't ideal. We felt the lack of auto shutoff was not a major problem because it’s effectively just a fan inside an enclosure (though there’s also the UV light, which apparently has a finite lifespan). We did not have any problems with the glued seams of the replacement filters breaking, though we were careful not to put much stress on this area when in the vinegar soak, or while handling during the rinse process. That said, compared to the original filter included with the humidifier, these seemed to be slightly thinner walled.Overall, it works for us and we continue to use it this winter season.

Easily the best humidifier I’ve owned
This is a fantastic humidifier. It is very easy to clean as long as you use common sense and check it every couple of weeks. The wick does require descaling if you want to use it for more than two weeks and any kind of descaling agent will do. I generally replace my wicks after 4 weeks of use. If you have hard water, you might have to do it more often, just be prepared. Noise is minimal as it is simply a fan running it, and I find on the medium setting I am getting good humidification without too much noise. Because it is an evaporation humidifier, there is no white dust settling from its use. Absolutely no issues with mould forming, most likely because I leave it running all the time and there is no standing water.
