Top notch fun
The Train Engineer Role Play Costume is built to last. The good quality fabric is sturdy and construction is top notch. The hat has elastic to allow for varying head sizes. Our two and a half year old runs for the outfit as soon as we set up the train set and call, โAll aboard!โThe little one wears a 3T and the costume is a bit large (hits well below the knee), but it is so cute on and will be wearable for years to come. With the side Velcro, it is quick to put on and take off. The accessories are all fun to use. A great purchase!

So much better than just an engineer hat!
I have a son who just turned 3 in January and I'd wanted to start promoting his love of make-believe with some hats for dress up. Of course he has a firefighter one already and I thought an engineer cap would suit him perfectly, what with our huge Melissa & Doug train set and his adoration of Thomas since he was old enough to point to a train! When reviewing my options, I came across this role play set and decided it'd be worth the investment because it came with so many items that we could use in a variety of ways. The hat and apron are sturdy and adorable. The train schedule is part of what makes it a bit more educational, though I believe the educational level of any toy is what you make of it when playing and teaching your child. These things alone would have been enough, but the set comes with bonus items: a walkie talkie, hammer and wrench, all of which go in my son's tool box now. So they can be used for playing more than just trains. Very pleased with this purchase.

Fits a variety of ages, excellent quality costume
My nephew is obsessed with trains. I bought this as a gift for his 7th birthday. I was a bit worried about sizing, since one reviewer bought it for their 3 year old and the manufacturer lists the ages as 3-6. I decided to take a chance and I'm glad I did. It fit him perfectly! The minute he unwrapped this, his eyes lit up and he begged to put it on. He has barely taken it off since! It was a huge hit. It also fits his younger brother, who is a small-for-his-age 5 year old, so it really can work for a variety of ages. The quality of this costume is excellent. It doesn't feel cheap or chintzy like some children's costumes I have seen. The material is thick and stitched strongly. The buttons on the shoulder straps are tightly sewn, so they won't pop off easily. It isn't the type of costume that is going to fall apart in one wash. This is something that will last in the dress up trunk for years. I definitely plan to buy more costumes in the Melissa & Doug line!

Perfect for a little engineer!
Purchased this for my 2 year old son who is obsessed with trains. He loves wearing it. It velcros on one side so it is easy to take off and put on. We were able to customize his name badge with his name and picture. The material is good quality- I haven't had to wash it yet however so I don't know how it will wash. The walkie talkie and tools and schedule have all been played with and fit in the pockets nicely. My son is in a size 3t and it is a little big on him but it doesn't bother him at all. He wears the hat everywhere, even to bed for naps. He's happy so I'm happy. We are definitely getting our money's worth with this item!

Good quality and would last for years!
I got this train engineer costume for my petite 6 year old son. He absolutely loves it!!! The apron or bib is roomy and probably fits him many more years. It doesn't look sloppy big, just has enough room to grow. For sizing, I think it would fit regular size 7 year old kid. All the accessories are well made. Only thing to complain is the walky talky needs a 9 V battery. I just wished it could use AAA or AA batteries. The walky talky has train sound that is not too loud. He wore it for his school's career day, but I plan for him to use for Halloween, possibly in many more years. Good investment...

Inspires imagination in this quality constructed costume
My 3 year old son is obsessed with anything having to do with trains. On his birthday he wore this costume so he could be a Jr. Engineer :) The accompanying tools, radio and train schedule gave him hours of play time. The only drawback is the "radio" is SUPER LOUD! There is no volume, and the train whistle recording on it startled my son several times. The buttons were also hard for him to depress. The quality of construction of the costume surpassed my expectations. The pockets are sewn well even though they are a thick see-through plastic. The fabric is a heavier durable, washable, and soft material. The sides are kept together with velcro...I would have liked to see an adjustable slip tie in the back for my skinnier guy. Overall an excellent, non-cartoon specific train related outfit to encourage role play for my son.

Cute Costume
I bought this for my train loving son. It does look cute on him but is baggier than I would like. He just turned 4 and is big for his age. I was worried about ordering this because I read some reviews that said the hat was too small. The hat that came with mine has elastic in the back and will be plenty big for any childs head which makes me think they must of updated the costume. I thought the walkie talkie did not work but it just did not come with batteries. It is a nice addition to the play factor and makes train sounds at a very low volume (thank goodness!).

Made Christmas Day for one budding engineer!
My nephew, who is obsessed with trains, couldn't wait to put this on. He was so excited about his train outfit! And then we put the batteries in the walkie-talkie. At that point he was over the moon about it.The costume is well made. Good fabric, easy to put on. I was impressed that the train schedule card was made out of a sturdy plastic and not cardboard - it will last a long time.It looks cute on and fits well on three- and four-year-olds. Might fit up to a six-year-old.
