I'm starting college this fall and I've decided to bring my electric guitar instead of my acoustic to save space. However, that's all moot if I bring my 50 pound, 100 watt amp. I have a little 40 watt Marshall amp that's only about 1'x1', but the sound is so bad that I'd rather just play unplugged. So I was looking for a quality, ultra-portable amp, and I got exactly that in the Danelectro Honeytone! Most other mini-amps cost $40-$50, and I'm a cheap college student, so I figured that there things always a bit of a gamble and I'd rather only bet $20. I figured worst-case scenario the speakers would suck and I'd use just it with headphones. When I opened the box, I was a little skeptical because while it's very cute, it's mostly plastic. However, once I plugged it in and unwrapped the battery (which was included!), I was immediately impressed. With most smaller and cheaper amps (like my Marshall), you have to choose between muddy distortion or barely being able to hear anything, but this is was not the case. The clean is clear and warm and the drive is still articulate. The sound quality is easily comparable to my Fender, except it's not so crazy loud. But it's actually amazing to hear how much sound can come out of such a little amp! I might even be able to use it for a little street performing. And, It's so small it actually fits in my guitar case. I'm not sure how well it'll hold up overtime, especially since some reviews complained about defective products, but I'll update this review if anything inexplicably breaks or fails. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this little amp!

Look, let’s not pretend this amp is something that it’s not. It is a travel amp. It’s not good for performing or practicing with others, but it’s not supposed to be. It has a perfectly fine clean sound. It runs off of a nine volt or can be used with a dc pedal power or similar. So it’s perfect for solo practicing or playing, and you can run headphones so as not to bother anyone else in the room. It’s not going to take the place of a “real” amp. You might not even have a need for it. But it is light and simple and takes up no space. And it is inexpensive to boot, so why not?

I also have a tiny Fender Mini-Deluxe amp that also runs off of a 9v battery. I play electric guitar with a Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator PO-14 as a tiny rythm section so I needed a second tiny battery powered amp. The first Honey Tone they sent was defective. I'd play one note and it would stop working. The second one they sent works fine. Comparing the 2 tiny amps, the Fender and the Honey Tone, I'd say they sound equally well. But the Fender costs $50 on Amazon and the Honey Tone was half that price. Also the Honey Tone has a belt clip that may come in handy. Neither of them compare to even a 15W practice amp as far as sound quality goes, but they work well enough. Both are noisy with my guitar but do not have the same problem with the pocket operator. I'm sure a noise pedal would solve that but that would defeat the purpose of tiny amps. The main reason for the 3 star review and not 4 or 5 is the bad amp they sent and the nuisance of having to go return it. There is a Guitar Center right next to the place I had to return it. I could have just gone there in the first place but instead had to drive several miles for the return, hoping the next one is not junk. I shop on Amazon for conveniance. This was not that. If I were to choose between the Fender and the Honey Tone, I'd go with the Honey Tone for price mainly but the belt clip is nice also. Keep in mind I've only used this amp for perhaps 30 minutes. I've had the Fender for much longer.

The HoneyTone is aptly named. It has a long reputation for having excellent sound for its size. That reputation is earned. It has double the volume of a portable amp I own that's twice its size. The tone range is generous (from mellow to high treble). From what I've seen and heard, the "overdrive" function is fairly useless in an amp this size. It tends to go distortion to the point of garble. My guess is specific guitars may work well with the overdrive, but I have no use for it as I prefer clear tones. It is possible to over-volume the amp (as with any amp) so i don't max it out, but for a portable or practice amp, it works very well. I've bought three of these now and plan to buy more. I don't know as I'd pay $40 to $60 for it, but the Amazon price (currently around $20) makes it a great value. I hope it's around at this price level for a long time as it's great for hobbyist projects or for box guitar amping. NOTE: I do not recommend purchasing used versions of this amp. I bought three... and all three were bad out of the box. With an amp this cheap it's returned for a reason-- and that reason is often because it just doesn't work right. You may luck out, but for the extra buck or two imo it's better just to buy a new one.

First of all- it's a micro-amp in a plastic housing, with plastic knobs and a plastic strap, even though the product description says it's leather. It's around 5 inches tall. On/volume, tone, and overdrive knobs. No reverb circuit. Sounds pretty basic, huh? It is. It's also capable of a LOT of different sounds, and good ones, at that. And it's LOUD. Much louder than expected for an amp with tiny wattage. Instructions are minimal, which is fine, since the controls are self-explanatory. The best part about them is that they show 15 control settings for different tones, from 60s British to fuzz to 70s hard rock. It captures them pretty convincingly, too! At higher volumes, the plastic cabinet starts to sound a little thin and twangy, but it's loud enough that it's not necessary to push it hard enough to enter that territory. I played mine outside, and had a buddy walk down the road. He could hear it a little less than a quarter mile away. Impressive. On mine, the belt clip needed to be removed and squished together to make it able to clip onto thinner materials. Out of the box, it could be clipped onto something 1/2 inch thick. It's sturdy, though. In fact, the whole unit feels pretty sturdy, with the possible exception of the knobs. But they aren't wobbly, and that could just be own reluctance to trust plastic knobs. But then, most amps have plastic knobs. I ordered a 9 volt power supply with mine, and I'm glad that I did. This little monster puts out enough power that I doubt that a battery would last long in it. Given the choice between the sounds of the Marshall, Fender, and this little beast, The Danelectro is the hands-down winner. At less than 20 bucks, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

Save your money. In this video nothing is plugged into the amp at all, no pedals or audio devices, & this is how the amp sounds with just the power on & a with a new battery. It’s even worse when I plug in a pedal. Yes overdrive is off so it’s not coming from that. I’m not a musician but needed an amplifier for my device. I thought this noise was normal since this is how it sounded out of the box, and the very few times I’ve used it I just tried to play the audio louder to drown it out. I bought this only - few months ago in April and had no idea it’s not supposed to make this weird noise until today! Today my friend, whose a musician, asked what was wrong with my amp & I said “wrong? It always sounds like this. Sounded like this out of the box so I thought it was normal. What do you mean?” He says the crackling is from a defective internal wire!!!! WHAT!? Seriously!? And now it’s too late to get my money back or get a replacement!! I feel so wronged. I have a defective amp & I’m stuck with it. Absolutely terrible!

Para su precio que es extremadamente barato se me hace un muy buen sonido. Había leído malas críticas del producto, pero en realidad suena muy bien y demasiado potente para la bocinita que tiene (obviamente ya con un overdrive natural). Con la pila de 9v que viene incluida no suena bien, pero quiero pensar que la pila es mal y probar con otra de mejor calidad.

Sinceramente desconfiaba de este microamplificador pero viendo las buenas reviews en Youtube me decidí por el y vaya sorpresa. PUNTOS POSITIVOS : - Diseño y aspecto : Es precioso, el cuidado que ha puesto el fabricante por conseguir un estilo vintage de los 50 es espectacular. Tiene una entrada de jack 3.5 y de alimentador 9v que no trae, ojo. - Materiales : Sí, es de plástico pero lo disimula muy muy bien y si no estas cerca no lo aprecias. Es un plástico bastante aceptable, no es de gran calidad pero tampoco malo. Lo potenciometros son muy buenos y tienen una resistencia al moverlos comparable a los amplis mas caros. Tambien tiene un asa a modo de decoracion que imita muy buen a la piel. - Sonido : Lo uso para armonica y es tremendo en potencia con un sonido limpio sin apreciarse ruidos indeseables. Con el potenciometro de volumen al minimo y la ganancia a las 3 (como si fuera un reloj) me ha marcado el sonometro de mi movil 81 decibelios. Osea que si la armonica normalmente llega a 70db en acustico, con solo un cuarto de potencia (hablo de gain, el vol. sigue al minimo) este bicho desarrolla unos 10-11db. Es un sonido algo hueco imitando el sonido de los años 50 pero ecualizando puedes conseguir llevar el tono a tu gusto, incluso en el manual hay presets para todos los gustos. Segun dicen con la guitarra electrica tambien da excelentes resultados. - Portabilidad : Posiblemente el mejor aspecto junto al sonido ya que puedes llevarlo a donde quieras, es muy ligero pero tambien tiene un peso que dice que dentro hay material de calidad. PUNTOS NEGATIVOS : No trae el alimentador de 9v, tenlo en cuenta. Tambien me habria gustado algo mas de proteccion, de goma por ejemplo en las esquinas, porque el plastico se ve frágil ante una caída. RESUMEN FINAL : Excelente 10/10, es precioso, puede adornar tu salon cuando no estes tocando. Tiene un sonido muy conseguido y potencia de sobra para practicar en casa.

Che ganzata ragazzi, piccolo ma potente, un stile carino molto affascinante che piace a tutti, comodo da portare con l'aggancio alla cintura, arrivato con i tempi stabiliti e integro. Ottima scelta

So far so good! I was looking for a tiny amp to take along on a bike and to play without having to look too much into settings (my flat really just allows for a small modelling amp, for which finding the right settings is not always easy). A somewhat clean sound, and some distortion is all I needed, and all I got. There's also a tone dial. The speaker is mightily loud for such a tiny thing. Yes, the clean sound is not completely clean but it works well enough for my purpose. The belt clip is perfect as I'm now able to dance around without having to worry about cables. So far none of the problems some people described. I'll update the review should this miniamp develop any problems. Other than that: it's a toy, but for me a useful, and rather cute one. edit: connected a ts9 to it, and the sounds I get out are really odd, but fit perfectly to a song I'm practising. Now on to find a similar sound on my proper amp
