I like the book, but it assumes a lot.
Coming from Windows XP, I found a lot of the terminology different (things like "apps", for instance, are common with smartphone users (I'm not) but new to me). Just Not Enough
I just bought a new computer that was preinstalled with Windows 8. I was coming from an old Gateway that had Windows XP on it. So, yes, I had a dinosaur and I was happy to see it go. I was still a little untrusting, however, that I would be able to learn Windows 8 because I was so far behind. So, I needed the best book for someone who really is a dummie! Everyone I talked to told me that this was the book to get. Well, I can't say that others don't find it sufficient to meet their needs, but it certainly didn't fit mine. I went carefully through it chapter by chapter doing everything I was told to do, but at the end of all that, I felt clueless. I couldn't do what I needed to do, and by its title, this book sounded like it was perfect. I found it to be too simple. I discovered that after 10 or more years coddling along my old computer, I had learned new things. And, I needed more than this book offered to be able to do what I had always done on Windows XP. So, I decided to look for another book, and I found what I needed in a book with the title of MY WINDOWS 8. It was not written by Micrcosoft, and I know now that being taught by an outsider offered me the kind of teaching and lessons that I wanted. I now feel so comfortable "whizzing around" on Windows 8 that I truly am proud of myself! That doesn't happen often.

My Dad loves it!
Bought this for my 75yr old dad because he bought a new laptop with W8. While he did really good with WXP and W7, W8 was knocking him for a loop. I live 1000 miles and another timezone away and I only use Macs. Every time he would call for help, I would have to Google up an answer, so the book was my last hope for ending the 6am calls for "how do I get to my email again?" Turns out it was the best idea I've had _ever_. He's well on his way to learning the new OS and the calls have trickled down to only occasional. BTW, Don't let the word "Dummies" in the title fool you - they aren't written in a condescending tone and are helpful even to the educated person. Dad loves the book. I know, because he emails me nearly every day with some other factoid he's learned from it !

Windows 8 for Seniors for Dummies
Windows 8 is like speaking Chinese with a mouthful of peanut butter. I'm having severe problems with email and the book hardly addresses it. I don't know whether to buy the Windows 8 for Dummies or not. It may just be the same old story. P.S. There is no good explanation on Windows 8 ANYWHERE.

Help for a desperate Senior!
My new computer has a touch screen and came with Windows 8! I didn't have a clue on how to begin to use this OS! I needed help fast so I purchased this "Windows 8 for Seniors! This book is great because it's written in a way that is easy to understand with step by step instructions. It covers a lot of territory and tells you how to use this OS without all the difficult technical terminology to deal with! :)

Missing too much
Like so many who bought a new computer with Windows 8, I needed some help. My old computer still used the Windows XP system, so I was several generations behind. Also, as a senior, I rarely used more than the basic computer activities. This book looked like it would be the answer to many of my questions, but almost every time I tried to find a subject in the index, it just wasn't there. In frustration, I just let it gather dust on my desk, and continue to struggle with learning the new system. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone who doesn't already have quite a bit of prior knowledge of computers. To me, it was a total waste of time, money and effort.

purchased as a gift for my "senior" sister
Not only is it book for dummies but it's a book for senior dummies (no offense seniors, i'm a senior too) but give me a break - how simple do the instructions have to be? I kind of feel like people think because we're seniors that we're stupid - we are not stupid. BUT some of us are too wet behind the ears to figure things out and we have stopped using our brains. I understand however because the lingo that is used is often not the lingo that we are used to so it IS good to have a book that explains it so that anyone can understand. Once you get thru the basics however you can graduate up to something more in depth. You just have to believe in yourself! Don't forget your generation saved the world from Tyranny and sent a man to the moon, so I'm pretty sure you can figure out how to use a computer!!! AND this is a good place to start. Good luck!

money well spent, bargain at the price much cheaper than in the shops.
I ordered this book for my husband as he bought a lap top with money given to him on his retirement, unfortunately it didn't come with any instructions on how to use Windows 8. As we have only used Windows XP we didn't have a clue were to start, this book has been extremely useful in guiding us into this unknown territory it explains things very clearly. would recommend purchasing to anyone struggling with Windows 8.

Senior Dummie
Having been used to using Windows for years Windows 8 comes as a bit of a shock however I am finding the book very useful. The repeated tasks may be a bit tedious but they are drumming it into my senior brain and I think without it I would have struggled for longer.

Great for computer OS challenged Seniors!
Great book, I went through it very quickly and certainly did learn a few basics I hadn't been able to figure out for myself. Overall, it was easy to understand and very simplistic - A well put together instruction manual for Seniors. I would recommend it for any OLDER Senior (I am 62) who has minimal computer knowledge.

Soooooooooo User Friendly
This book is a must for all Windows 8 converts it is so easy to use and understand. I was surprised at how easy it was to use some of the more sophisticated applications and how precise the explanations on each section where to understand. An excellent product and I would thoroughly recommend it.
