RYOBI 18V ONE+ 33cm Lawn Mower (Battery & Charger Excluded)

Very good. I wasn't expecting much after reading the reviews but thought it would come in handy for the quicker options as my garden has several sections. Wow! Its so light, like pushing a kids toy around but by no means less adequate than the plug in one. I do have heaps of large ryobi batteries and it certainly goes thru them but to be fair to it, batteries permitting, it easily cuts 3/4 of an acre very nicely. Collects grass well, easy to push round and quiet. I would certainly recommend it but you definitely need plenty of batteries at the ready!

Well. On the whole I'm very, very impressed with this amazingly light little mower, which runs on the same battery system as a wide range of other tools (both indoor and outdoor). The mower is supplied without battery and charger - and these do add a good chunk to the cost - but we already owned several batteries and the fast charger for this series, so didn't need to buy anything new/extra in order to run this. The only assembly needed for this relates to attaching the three pieces of the handle, which is pretty straightforward. Although the diagrammatic instructions show fitting it, this came with the mulching plug pre-installed (needs to be removed before the grass collection bag can be used). The grass collection bag has a cloth base, so is collapsible for storage, whilst the handle of the mower can be folded by simply unscrewing the two large side screws. For storage purposes, this is great, taking a comparatively small amount of space whilst the grass collection bag is reasonably generous. This works well. It is unbelievably light compared to a petrol mower. More like pushing a lightweight stroller or a child's toy than a lawnmower (although there is a bit of vibration through the arms). My Dad at 72 hasn't used a mower on anything other than self-drive settings in years, but he loved this push mower: it's so light that pushing this is less effort than steering an SD petrol mower. No fumes. No need to faff about with engine oil. Comparatively, this is really quiet in use. We've only used this with 5.0ah batteries. When well-maintained, a fully charged battery is easily capable of coping with a couple of good sized lawns (over 2000' squared/ a good couple of hundred meters). If grass has started to get a bit out of hand, this still cuts well, but with the 5.0Ah battery you can hear it placing strain on the power supply and the battery drains significantly faster. The small size and light weight make this very easy to manoeuvre, and this goes in next to obstacles (such as trees, bird feeders, and lawn edges) really well. The only issue we've had with this relates to the cutting height adjustment 'lever'. This is wholly plastic, and works by means of pulling a plastic handle out, moving it side to side, and pushing it back in so that a little plastic peg slots in to one of 5 cutting height selection holes. The 5th hole - the one for the highest cut on grass - is not good. On this setting, the peg gets stuck. There doesn't seem to be sufficient space between the lever and the wheel to disengage this once it has been set to this height. The handle on the lever really strains and feels as though it might break, with no sign of dislodging the peg. I ended up using the end of a flat head screwdriver and poking this down the side of the hole selector to extract the peg without placing undue pressure on the handle. Will be avoiding this setting in future. On paper this mower isn't really suitable for our garden. We live out in the countryside and have a half acre plot - significantly more than the size for which this is recommended. However, our garden isn't all lawned over one area each at the back/front, but over seven separate 'zones'; is on a slope; and has walled areas and steps between every lawn. It's really a series of smaller lawns rather than a big one. Until now, we've used petrol rather than electric mowers - the cabling needed for electric models is completely impractical in a large, tiered garden that's prone to retaining water. Previously, it's been quite hard going lugging a mower round between walled areas, up and down steps. To make matters more interesting, our soil is clay: prone to cracking deeply and developing odd lumps and bumps in dry weather; and waterlogging, then remaining boggy, when it rains. That this is light has not been astonishing, but this mower has surprised by proving easier to use over lumps and bumps caused by cracking lawns and ants' nests (a constant battle in our garden!) than petrol mowers. The lighter weight doesn't do anything to help restructure the lawn, but does enable this to glide over obstacles, instead of struggling and even getting stranded on them. This has also proved more practical in some respects when it comes to our water-retaining soil: this is so light that it can be used pretty much as soon as the soil is OK to walk on, whereas heavier mowers can start to sink/dig in to the ground if it's not dried out below the surface. If we mow by using multiple batteries, or doing only a couple of lawns at a time, this lightweight battery mower works really well, even on a large garden. 4.5/5

UPDATE:- Having had more experience in using this mower I would add. For small patches of lawn it's excellent however if the lawn is wet or even damp it blocks and stalls. So you need to keep your grass short, cut it more often and not after it has rained. On that basis I would down grade it from 5 star to 4 star. ========================================================================================= Due to landscaping, decking and tarring my lawns went from about 200 sq m to 30 sq m so when my Bosch corded lawn mower gave in after 20 years of good service decided to downsize my mower and go cordless. As I have Ryobi ONE+ power tools made sense to chose a Ryobi mower. This mower is small, compact and is all I need. It does the job required and without the need to reel out cable extensions so makes cutting the grass quick and easy. One other advantage is due to it's size and the collapsible cuttings bin come Winter I can dismantle the handle and store the mower on a garage cabinet shelf. On first impressions and after a couple of uses yes I would recommend.

lovely mower nice and light, has a handle on top so easy to pick up, i have already got ryobi strimmer and drill, so one battery was all i needed, good size grass box also has mulching adaptor, assembly easy just handle and four bolts, good value for money, i like ryobi tools any way, no more messing around with the mains lead to cut my lawn, all four wheels ajust together, which is good, two things on the down side the ajustment handle for the wheels is a bit flimsy just becarefull when ajusting hight, and the on off button, have to press hard to get it to start, still i like it

Great little mower for the small/medium lawn. To those who say it keeps cutting out, it's because it is set too low and the grass is too long. As good as they are, these battery mowers are not as powerful as the mains powered ones so if your grass is too long, set the mower to high and give it a second lower cut. Very light and manoeuverable. Highly recommended.

Lovely and light to use so no aches and pains. Won't cope with first cut of the season, or medium to long grass, but once the grass is manicured, this is so easy to use, it makes a quick tidy job. Downside is on the second use damage appeared where the bolts fit to join the handle sections. You can register the product on line ready for warranty if needed, however despite having registered the lawnmower, it was impossible to find the service/repair details. I am no idiot, but having tried several times to implement the warranty, and failed, I just gave up as I had more pressing things to attend to.

Took a risk on this mower as was finding my hovering one too heavy and near misses with the power cord were looming on the horizon. Read the reviews and ordered the 33cm….already had a 1.5av battery and charger so thought I’d try those first as my lawn smallish. The 1.5 battery did the job but only lasted about 10 mins as grass was long. So having been impressed by the lightness and manoeuvre ability I bit the bullet and went for the bigger guns 5av battery. Went over the lawn again a week later and it was like dancing on grass and the new bigger battery lasted the full course with some remaining. My little charger did take 5 hours to charge it but I wasn’t in a hurry. My lawn is a bit bumpy and on a slope and it dealt with this no trouble at all. I felt like a kid with a new toy. Woop! Overall I’m surprised and impressed and actually looking forward to the next cut on the low setting…the mulching was great too…didn’t even need to use the grass collecter and it’s better for the grass that way too. I think I might become a ryobi addict. Already Perusing other garden tools and thinking of sacking the gardener.

I've had nothing but trouble with this mower. The first issue I'll admit could be partially my fault, but I still blame the manufacturer. They've chosen to provide a pictoral manual, which I guess makes sense to save money by not having to produce different manuals for different markets. But to me many of the pictures are not useful, specifically the one that tells you how to turn the stupid thing on. There are two squeeze levers as with many mowers, but there is also what the manual calls a "start button". It's less of a button but a release catch - if you squeeze the levers alone, nothing happens, you have to hold the release catch in and then squeeze the levers at the same time. The picture used for this operation is not clear at all, maybe I'm stupid but I work in aircraft engineering and can understand technical text and schematics. No matter how many times I pressed the button and then squeezed the levers, nothing happened. I initially thought the problem was with my batteries, which in itself is another issue I have with Ryobi - they have this "One+" platform where the premise is that one battery will power any of your tools, but it turns out there are several types of "One" battery, some obviously more suitable to certain applications than others, so the "One+" is a bit nonsense. That in itself would be fine if they told you which batteries are needed for which products, but there doesn't seem to be much of an indication at all, unless you only ever buy the package deals they offer - what's the point of having one battery to power all your tools if you actually buy a brand new one with every tool? Anyway, the thing wouldn't work, so I contacted their customer service via fb messenger and they said the mower will definitely work with your batteries, so it must be faulty. Get Amazon to replace it. Amazon did very kindly replace it, and guess what, same issue. I reported it again to their customer service and this time they asked me to report it on their website. I hadn't done that the first time because their website is awful and doesn't accept punctuation in your comments. I persisted with the damn thing a second time and eventually got it to accept my issue report, they haven't yet acknowledged or responded and this was a month ago. So I messed around with the stupid mower for some time, obviously *two* mowers can't be faulty, and eventually I figured out that the "start button" is not a button at all but a release catch. Then it started working. Okay great, this was late April, the grass didn't need cutting and the Environment Agency were promoting No Mow May to help the little bees, so I put it in the garage and forgot about it. I got it out today and had two batteries fully charged and ready to go, bearing in mind my garden is very small - it took about 10-15 minutes including reeling out the power cord to cut it with my old mower. This thing manages a strip of about 2m before it cuts out. I let go of the handles, press the RELEASE CATCH and squeeze the handles and it starts up again, so I cut another few centimetres and it cuts out again. This happens two or three times before it just dies completely and will not run - the battery has overheated. If you leave the battery for a while it will cool down, allowing you to repeat the process of cutting another couple of metres til it overheats. To my mind this is not fit for purpose.

Sono rimasto impresso dalla versatilità di questa tosaerba. Non ho un m grande giardino, 10x15, è questo prodotto è perfetto. Poi, la decisione più difficile era in quale ecosistema di prodotti a batteria si vuole aderire. Ryobi ne ha mille attrezzi buoni e quindi la batteria può essere facilmente spostata fra essi. Consigliato!

Très facile d'utilisation. Coupe très bien et si on utilise le sac (pas des plus grands) mais je n'ai jamais eu une autre tondeuse qui remplissait si bien son sac. Pour 250m2, il faut compter plus qu'une batterie de 5Ah.

Der Zusammenbau war sehr einfach und in wenigen Minuten erledigt – perfekt für alle, die keine komplizierte Montage möchten. Den ersten Einsatz musste der Mäher direkt unter schwierigen Bedingungen meistern: richtig nasses Gras. Trotz dieser Herausforderung war das Schnittergebnis sauber und gleichmäßig. Der Mäher arbeitet zuverlässig, ohne Leistungsverlust oder Verstopfung. Ich nutze den Mäher mit einem RYOBI ONE+ 18V 5Ah Akku, der ausreichend Power und eine gute Laufzeit bietet. Trotz der Kunststoffkonstruktion macht der Mäher einen sehr wertigen Eindruck und wirkt robust. Besonders gefällt mir die kompakte Bauweise und die 33 cm Schnittbreite, ideal für kleine bis mittlere Gärten. Die Handhabung ist leicht und angenehm, und dank des Akkubetriebs entfällt lästiges Kabelziehen. Ich bin sehr zufrieden und kann den RYOBI 18V ONE+ Akku-Rasenmäher uneingeschränkt empfehlen – eine klare Kaufempfehlung für alle, die einen leistungsstarken und einfach zu bedienenden Akku-Rasenmäher suchen.

Une tondeuse légère, silencieuse et vraiment facile à manier. Le gros avantage de ce modèle est de pouvoir utiliser les mêmes batteries 18V One+ que le reste de mes outils, ce qui est très économique. La largeur de coupe de 33 cm est idéale pour l'entretien régulier et elle se faufile partout. Fini la corvée de la rallonge électrique.
