What gauge is the metal? Is it aluminum, not steel?

it is very sturdy steel construction, there is no point that i can actually tell the guage, all the edges are rolled and the quality is very good

Can the Ball-bearing rails be removed from the side of the tool box ?

The rails are riveted in place. But not impossible to replace.

What is the overall height of the box?

Thank you for your question. The H0837 3-Drawer Middle Tool Chest w/ Ball Bearing Slides measures 26" Wide X 9-7/8" High X 12" Deep.

Do these drawers lock shut? I know it has a key lock, but I need something that has drawers that lock closed when you shut them to go in a work van

It does have a lock and it closes snugly. I don't move mine so I don't know how they would handle moving.
