I was skeptical. Way more impressive than I thought.
OK so hear me out. I was very skeptical about these making much difference but I was curious. I had a bottle of buffalo trace white dog mash #1. It was terrible and raw. If you don't know what that means, you haven't tried it, and it's hard to explain. I popped two of these in there in March 2024, corked it and forgot about it in the back of the liquor cabinet. Now, two years later in March 2026, I said "let try this and see," and WOW what a difference. It's not just tolerable, but actually tastes good, like I'd do it again good. Don't get me wrong, it's still got a young quality to it, but it's got a nice oak sweetness and smoothness to it, especially considering the 125 proof point and raw prior flavor. Overall, actually impressed and worth it. If you're looking at this, go ahead and give it a shot.

It actually works
As an experiment I dropped half of one in a bottle of Glenmorangie and 2 weeks later is is very smoky and oaky. Very good and very distinct in it's flavor. Honestly the the Glenmorangie Scotch is great without it so this was just an experiment to see if it had much of an effect at all, which it very much did at just half a stick. I will definitely be trying this on some other bottles as I see fit in the future. I like to try inexpensive Scotches so it will definitely come in handy when I run against some I don't like. If you are a Whiskey/Scotch/Bourbon drinker who wants to give this a shot I say go for it. It does what it says on the tin for a very reasonable price. It's not a minor difference, either. Very obvious change in the character of the drink.

truly great in a cheap scotch.
Works great in cheap scotch but not so much with the whiskeys. Iv tried this in a few different scotches (bottom shelf $9.00) and it improves the flavor/adds flavor in just 24 hours. If you let the thing sit in there for a little longer you can taste the flavor changes that happen daily. In the whiskeys iv tried it made them less drinkable and woody tasting. But I have only tried this on expensive whisky. All in all these things are a very cool but they are a little expensive. I bought a bag of oak chips on amazon and they work just fine.

Cool gimmick, worth a try
I thought this was kinda dumb but figured for the price it’s worth a try since I’ve got plenty of bottles that I’ve opened, tried once and wouldn’t go back to. First tried with a Russel’s 10, in less than a week you could notice a real difference in flavor. It doesn’t give it a more “aged” flavor but it did add some sweetness and slight oak. Would absolutely vary depending on the juice you use. But overall worth it to try and bring a second life to a bottle you may not want to go back to or to get a twist of flavor on one you have had a lot of times. Overall I wouldn’t throw any of these in a prized bottle in your collection, but it does have its place on the shelf

Works good in scotch.
Ok I saw these and gave them to my husband for Xmas. I bought the cheapest bottle of scotch I could find for $23 and he put this product into it after removing a flask full of the original to compare to later. After 2 weeks he tried it and he said it made the scotch more oaky, less harsh so it’s more palatable and the smell also is nicer to the nose. So his vote it made low shelf scotch taste like a mid shelf scotch for much less money. He is letting it age a few more weeks to see if it adds anything more to the scotch with more time. I think it’s worth the buy not a bust. 1/10/22 update… I ordered these again. My husband is still a fan of how these make some scotch taste better. Found out Famous Grouse can’t be helped by even 2 of these in the bottle.

Great for infusing oakiness into your liquor
I purchased these as I was experimenting in adding some oakiness to moonshine and a few young bourbons that would have benefited from additional aging. I left them in for about two weeks, but only needed about a week for one of the bottles I added one to. I suggest tasting the bottles periodically throughout the process to determine when your liquor has reached your desired flavor profile. These are narrow enough where they will fit in the mouths of most bottles, which can't be said for other spirals available on the market. I would highly recommend these and plan to purchase again.

Not cost effective
I'm the type of person that will pay too much for something I need but, I have to say these are marked up way too much. I was pretty skeptical of these and knew the price was a ripoff going into it but, I had to try them out to see how it compared to aging in real barrels. I first tried this in a 1.75L bottle of white lightning to see what, if anything, the spiral would do. To nobody's surprise, not much. The mfg. calls for 750ml for a reason.lol With 750ml of clear liquor, it will give a very nice amber color by the end of the 2 weeks (maximum time these are supposed to be good for). It gives a pleasant and subtle flavor to the drink and does help round it out. It's oaked without the "in-your-face" oak slap you get from (young) barrels. If these little spirals were being sold for half the price, I'd be a huge fan. As it stands, there are better, more economical ways of doing the same thing. Buy your own mini barrels and get way more use for not much more. For example, I now have 3L barrels for the same price as 8 of these tiny spirals. These are listed as single use spirals boing I'm going to try re-charring to see if any more useful life can be extracted from these. Pros: Adds fantastic color very quickly! Helps round out whatever you put them in (I've only tried white whiskeys and brandy) Cons: Only good for 750ml bottles or less Not truly "aging" with these as you would in a barrel (seems obvious but mentioning anyway) Not cost effective vs alternatives Only lasts 2 weeks and is only a single use Worth mentioning again, only a single use Not going to get much of any aroma from these
