Blade Runner 2049 - Interlinked - The Art

I wiould give it 6 stars if I can
Directors and Cinematographers get a lot of headlines and credit when a film is as visually dazzling as Blade Runner 2049, but the production design and the art department hardly get noticed. A big part of the visual beauty of Blade Runner 2049 is owed to Production Design and Art departments that worked months ahead before the first shot was filmed, creating the world of the film--this book is dedicated those men and women.Whether you are a fan of the film or not, if you are a fan of filmmaking in general I seriously recommend you get a copy of this book, it fills in a lot of gap about some of the scenes and sequences in the movie, but more importantly it is a "how to book" on how visual concepts are realized on screen. The book is well designed and looks stunning like the film. If you know any fan of the movie they will not be disappointed with this book.I am also looking forward to the third volume on BR 2049 , the storyboards, it was originally scheduled for release this fall but has been moved up to next spring.

Absolute PERFECT companion book to The Art and Soul
Absolute PERFECT companion book to The Art and Soul and made by the same author who clearly had a heart for this project. This book is heavily focused on the pre film illustrations and concept art. So thankful they took the time to create BOTH of these incredibly inspiring books that truly show the passion and soul that went into making this breathtakingly beautiful and profound film. If you are a fan you will not be disappointed.

Worth it for artists, hardcore fans, aspiring filmmakers
This book is absolutely worth getting if you are an artist yourself, are an aspiring filmmaker or are just a big fan of the Blade Runner universe. It features an array of gorgeous production artwork that offers an eye opening look into how the final looks of the film were crafted. As well as commentary from the artists and filmmakers who worked on the film.

Incredible companion to the "Art & Soul of Blade Runner 2049" book
Whereas the "Art & Soul of Blade Runner 2049" book focused much of its attention on the filming of the movie, this glorious book takes a deep dive into all of the conceptual artwork that spring-boarded 2049 to life. Additionally, this book rightfully and respectfully credits most or all of the conceptual artists that supported this project, unlike The Art of Godzilla: King of the Monsters (also published by Titan), where not one credit to the concept artists is to be found.Influenced by the original Blade Runner film and Syd Mead's conceptual work - the exploration into how each artist evolved and elevated the look & feel of the Blade Runner universe is richly detailed.Whether you are a fan of the Blade Runner films or simply appreciate the aesthetic, I cannot suggest this book highly enough.

Finally, the 2049 Book I THOUGHT I'd bought.
Besides being one of the best cinematic sequels ever produced, Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049 was a feast for the eyes and did an admirable job of building on and expanding the visual world that Ridley Scott and team established with such authority decades earlier. In 2017 I purchased the book "The Art and Soul of Blade Runner 2049," sight unseen, secure in the knowledge that the subject matter would provide incredible amounts of concept art, as most "art of" film books tend to do. And while "Art and Soul" was a big beautiful coffee table book full of gorgeous visuals, it was disappointingly short on concept art. What resulted was more of a "making of" book, with moody production stills, behind the scenes photos, and quotes from the actors, director, production designer, etc. Near the front of that book were two dozen key art images used to establish visual tone for the production, shrunk down and crammed into a double page spread, with a brief reference to a 2015 think tank of pre-production concept artists. Painfully little more of this stunning imagery was featured thereafter. I couldn't believe all that amazing concept art had been relegated to tiny insets while stills from the film (artful as they were) took dominance. I usually pore over "art of" books for days or weeks and keep them within close reach at home and the office, but "Art and Soul" was flipped through once, maybe twice, then carefully placed on a bookshelf to gather dust, a beautiful yet flawed memento."Blade Runner 2049: Interlinked – The Art" certainly took longer than expected to reach our hands, but it was worth the wait. The book dutifully fills in the gaps and covers most of the ground that "Art and Soul" skipped. Within its less wide and more manageable pages ( the book retains the same height and width of its companion book, making them handsome partners on the shelf) "Interlinked" covers such topics as the continued evolution of 2049 Los Angeles, developments of vehicles and props like K and Luv's spinners, blasters and other weapons, Joi's emanator, and several pages of costume/character design that add to the ambience of the Blade Runner world.Major set pieces and all environments are covered: Sapper's farm, the orphanage and surrounding trash mesa, the cityscapes and outer regions of LA, Wallace's corporate HQ and Luv's office space, LAPD station with Joshi's office and Coco's Morgue, K's apartment, the Marketplace, Las Vegas and the Casino, the LA Sea Wall and the Memory Lab. Even graphic design treatments for the Wallace corporate identity, Joi advertising and the LAPD logo are touched on. Most visuals are accompanied by insights and reflections from the artists, and work is attributed accordingly, though not always.I was personally disappointed that my two favorite props in the film, the holographic (?) manicurist tools and Ana's dream weaving device, are barely covered (or in the case of the manicure gear, not at all). But it's a very minor oversight and I doubt many others would notice. My only real complaint for the book would be its execution. The page design is functional yet uninspired (especially when compared to the slick design of its predecessor - granted the point size has rightfully been increased to a legible scale on cut lines this go 'round). Physically, the ink on my copy seemed to create a dusty, textured feel to the touch on certain pages with higher-density ink coverage. These pages feel almost like uncoated stock while others are slick to the touch as expected. My copy was pre-ordered at the beginning of 2020 and there were repeated month-long delays to its printing due to the global lockdown; so I completely understand if the printing is not perfect... I honestly I was surprised and impressed that the book got printed this year at all, so kudos to the production team. The author has done a solid job on this latest title and the content definitely makes up for the disappointing lack of concept design in the original book. While there are some redundancies within their pages, "Interlinked" is a worthy addition to my library and makes a great companion to its predecessor.

A must have for blade runner fans!
Blade runner 2049 is one of my favorite movies. I was reading the blade runner comic book series and saw the ad for the art book and knew I had to have it. The book has wonderful artwork and a thorough analysis of how the world of blade runner 2049 came into fruition. Highly recommend it!

I love this book
As a life-long fan of the original movie and a believer that 2049 is as good (maybe better...?), I have totally fallen in love with this book. The artwork itself is beautiful and incredibly well presented, but it is the quotes from the artists that shed light on the inspirations, directions, process etc etc that really make this such an interesting book. Something I delight in picking up every now and then, picking a page at random and losing myself in for a few minutes.
