BEST OVERALL MIC FOR RECORDINGS!!! (Recordings and even YOUTUBE!)
As a home recording artist, this mic definitely met my needs. For the longest time, I've owned the AKG Perception 120 (the old model), and I've never had a problem with this mic. The main reason to why I bought the P220 was so I can change my setup to have one mic for recording vocals (the P220) and the other mic for recording YouTube videos (Perception 120). The shock mount for the P220 is being used for the Perception 120, and it fits the mic perfectly. Both mics are basically the same size, so I figured that it would work. The build quality on the P220 is rugged and tough, and the functions are very simple. You have 2 main settings: the bass roll off, which is great if you want to record without having to deal with any unnecessary low end frequency that the mic picks up. The other setting cuts off the signal by 20db. From my experience, it's best use is if you have a noisy background, and you don't want that to bleed into the mic. It basically isolates the signal to only be heard right in front of the mic as opposed to everything in the environment. I would be lying if I said that were some things I don't like about it (because I simply LOVE AKG products) but for other people, this might be too simple of a mic compared to other more expensive mics. The sound of this mic is warmer and more direct than the AKG Perception 120, so I felt that it was better for recording vocals. However, the Perception 120 still crushes it in the studio. Some people might consider a different taste in sound compared to other mics, but for me, this mic suits my needs perfectly. The AKG Perception 120: AKG Perception P120 Professional Studio Microphone, Sliver So, here are my pros and cons: PROS: - inexpensive - simple settings - versatile (vocals, guitar, etc.) - rugged CONS (possible opinions of others): - too cheap - too simple (not enough settings) - not preferred taste of sound - too heavy

AKG P220 Vocal Condenser Microphone review...don't sleep on this mic
I am very impressed with this mic. I have been recording vocals in professional & home studios settings for about 25 years, and the quality of this mic is amazing by any standard. I have used $3k (Neumann U87) mics all the way down to $49 MXL's (SP-1, v250, 990, v67, 910, 2006, etc.), and I've also used many dynamic mics as well, shure sm58, sennheiser e838, etc . This AKG is a great large diaphragm condenser mic & I have to say I prefer this over the others I've used...this just fits my voice like a glove. I have a raspy deep voice & this mic does my vocals justice without adding any "color" to it, it just sounds like me...and that's exactly what I wanted. It is crisp & clear and warm. I will be testing it later with my tube pre amp and I'm sure it will sound even better. Right now I am running it through a tascam US 2x2 and it sounds great. So far I have tested it on rap vocals and rock vocals with excellent results. I barely have to touch the eq, if at all, this saves me time while mixing down a track. It comes with a very sturdy shock mount, heavy and solid...much better quality than the mxl shock mounts I've encountered. It also comes with a replacement band for the shock mount, an adapter for both size mic booms & an awesome case. The mic itself is pretty heavy, made of thick metal and the chrome grill with the matt black finish looks great. It has a bass rolloff switch and a -20db switch as well that can come in handy when recording electric guitar from an amp or something of that nature. Remember, you will need a 48v phantom power source for this mic. I would have expected to pay much more for this mic. Thank you AKG for another great product!

Great mic
Performed a little test with this mic. Based on the good reviews and sale price, I figured this might make a good mic for vocal work or at least stringed instruments. I’m happy to report that it fits the bill nicely. Compared to an AT 2035, the sound is more warm, with less character in the mid range at 430 hz to about 900. I think the only thing was a loss of clarity in the 5 kHz range comparatively. Turns out that works very well for baritone ranged singers. I’ll keep the AT 2035 on my tenor and alto singers. At this price range it is tough to find something with a perfectly flat response without some coloring, but it’s really about finding the cheap mics with the right color (frequency response curves) that fit your application. In this case I’d say this is good for male singers with deeper voices, or acoustic instruments in the viola or cello range. I haven’t tried yet, but a medium-low brass might be complimented well here too. Overall, it’s hefty, has the right voicing stage to be useful for vocal singing and voice-over, and fits a budget anyone can afford. For a project studio on a reasonable budget, I think you will be satisfied.

QUALITY MIC | WARM VOCALS | ACCURATE RESPONSE
Bought this because my brother dropped my Audio Technica AT2020 mic and it broke. Listen, this is going to be the most honest review. For those that THINK they need to spend over a certain amount to get that “sound” put that notion out the door. What I’ve been able to achieve with these “under $200” mics would make a majority or people who’ve spent thousands of dollars upset. There are so many factors that go into a QUALITY recording, a mic is just one of them. In addition, factors such as room/environment, plug ins, pre-amps and yes, the person recording all contribute to the overall sound you will achieve. This AKG blew me away the first night I used it. It is the most accurate mic for the price—what I mean by this is you sound just like how you hear somebody sound. No extra fluff. It delivered accurate frequency response and kept the vocal tight and warm. This is without a preamp, running it straight into my FastTrack Pro (nothing fancy). I was thoroughly impressed with the quality for the price. That should be the number one rule in the game, QUALITY over quantity. I highly recommend this mic to anyone, from beginner to the most savvy engineer. P.s. don’t let you brother (or sister) drop your mic! Take care of your stuff!

Alcanza La Excelencia

Great microphone
I like the AKG P220 so much that I bought a second one. My voice sounds great on the P220, the presence peak is just in the right spot. I use this microphone both for voice-over work and for my ham radio station. It works well in both applications; I gotten many unsolicited "great audio" reports from other hams. Very solidly constructed, i'm expecting many years of service. This microphone is an unbelievable value for the price! I also have an AKG C214 and an AKG P170. The C214 might be a better fit for recording say, a guitar, but my voice just doesn't sound as good on the C214, The P170 sounds OK on my voice, but its small diaphragm is much more prone to popping for voice recording.

Great beginner home studio Mic
For the price this is a perfect beginner home studio condenser. It is my first and it has clean crisp quality. I use it with the focusrite scarlett 2i2 usb interface and a macbook pro. This mic has great value for the price. You are getting a nicely padded hardshell case and a heavy duty metal shockmount. Extra shockmount bands are also included. I recommend you also purchase a pop filter and a sound isolation shield to enhance the quality of the mic. It is a condenser so it is very sensitive to background noise if a noisegate isnt applied via a DAW. Otherwise there is no hissing or any ambient noise that I detect thus far and it is holding up well. Highly reccomend

A fantastic microphone for a great price
I got this for around $180 with free delivery from the US. What a great price for this fantastic microphone. I use it for vocals for a bit of fun and I'm really enjoying it. Also, the microphone comes with shock mount and nicely packaged in a beautiful little box, which you can take around with you if you want to use it in different locations.

AKG Microfono a condensatore P220
