17 inches long is more like it. It is a standard size small extinguisher that fits perfect at the base of the front seat or on a door pillar.

Is this Halon fire extinguisher?

No, and a bit misleading since the product number/ name mimics the halon unit. Yes, there's the price difference... simply based on what the product is.

Is the bracket coast guard approved?

Yes, it is! The UL label states, "USCG type APPROVAL NO. 162028/EX 9184 Valid only with bracket 817. "817" is stamped on the straps of the bracket that comes with the extinguisher.
