National Hardware N222-448 2193BC U Bolt in Stainless Steel

I used these to bolt in some aluminum tubing for a removable handrail. Since my boat is made out of aluminum, these were a must. The best part for me, thy are threaded for us people in the USA. NOT METRIC. I used the backing plate, but used nyloc nuts instead of the supplied nuts. If you need a solid, non rusting u-bolt, these will do the job.

My search for a replacement stainless steel U-bolt for my antenna mast found this one. The existing U-bolt is steel & was rusting after years exposed to the elements. As my review title says, this U-bolt is too narrow at 1-1/8". I needed a 1-1/4" U-bolt, the standard antenna mast size. This is stainless steel, so there's no problems with resizing it on a piece of 1-1/4" pipe. No need to worry about any scrapes or nicks rusting on stainless steel. The resizing was very easy to do on an old piece of pipe. I Hammered the U-bolt onto the pipe, then use a vise to finalize the shape. To my surprise, the plate still fits perfectly! :) The pros: + $6.46, which included free shipping, or $2.10 + free shipping if you get this when it's an "add-on item"! + 300 grade Stainless steel, so it will never rust & it will last forever! + Comes with a stainless steel plate & 2 stainless steel 1/4-20 nuts. The cons: + Doesn't come in 1-1/4" size. I bought 3 of these & I may up the product rating to 5 stars after I install one of these U-bolts. ► Update - August 8, 2013 I installed one of these today on a 1-1/4" antenna pole & the resizing made the U-bolt a perfect fit. I've decided to up my product rating to 5 stars. ► Update October 21, 2015 I have 2 of these installed now. The first one I installed on an antenna pole, 2 years ago, still looks like new! Not wanting to be without a couple on hand, I just added another one of these on my Amazon order. I couldn't pass up the $2.10 + free shipping price!.

Exactly as advertised, appears sturdy and well made.

Used 1 1/2" aluminum angle on sides of the solar panel. Then used the SS U-bolts to mount the solar panel to the roof racks. Very solid and clean install.

Not 1 3/4 as stated, also missing one of the nuts. Sent back for refund.

The item came in but the diameter of the metal was 3/16" and not 1/4". The tag on the item also states 1/4..
