Sea to Summit Ultra-Mesh Mosquito Head Net for Midges and Small Insects

Great no seeum bug net! Also Works great if you are the first person on a hiking trail for keeping those face height spider webs off of your face.

We got these to go to the Maritimes and Newfoundland (Gros Morne area). I had read black flies were a pain, and they were. But with our Summit mosquito head net we were happy campers. We wore them while we were hiking, hot and sweaty, and the head net didn't make us feel hotter. We took them to the Rockies this summer and the Appalachians too. They're tiny and fit in your pockets easily. Just pop one over your existing hat- baseball or brimmed- and you'll no longer have flies in your eyes, mouth, nose and ears.

There are a ton of these "nets" all over the internet that claim "ultra-fine" and blah blah.. That term can be vague in definition. And if you read a lot of the reviews of those other nets, you will see folks complaining about how bugs are still getting through the net. They bought a 4-8 dollar net. You get what you pay for folks. This net here, I have extensively tested, and it holds back tiny house gnats and up. Now, I'm not sure about anything smaller than that, but even the baby gnats could not get in it, so it could very well work for almost everything. You can tell a GOOD solid net hole size when you put it on and after a time, you start to take notice the oxygen quality, I guess due to a combination of trapped Co2 and non-movement. These holes are extremely tiny, but be sure to allow the bottom of the net to hang loosely downward so that as you move, you release co2. But Stop a sec! Hold on, don't take this as a warning of danger, there is no danger here. You just may sense a different feeling if your sensitive to such things, being a diver as I am. Others will probably not even notice this. And besides, I doubt most people will go on a jog with this thing on their head. Or maybe you will, who knows. You will be FINE! Although I wouldn't suggest you attempt to sleep with it on, that might not be a smart thing to do, but whatever, you do you. And to point the finger at myself, I did actually fall asleep accidently with this net on, and was fine. Fishing does have it's up's and downs. -shrug. Anyhow, if you want to stop 'nearly' every flying thing from getting in your face, BUY THIS.

Great head net, a must as standard outdoor equipment. I'm retired and I hike in Arizona every day. I own 2, a standard and an ultra-mesh for tiny insects. Really like the Sea to Summit head nets. Great quality and includes a bag. Tried a lesser brand at one point and it was low quality, not even worth the lower price.

as others have said the net is very short, when on, it hits at the top of my shoulders. a longer net would be nice to tuck into a shirt so when you move you don't have to keep adjusting the net.

My husband trialed this net yesterday in a swamp in Central Florida where we have loads of tiny midges, no-seeums, and gnats that can usually get through typical "mosquito nets." He reports that while the mesh is fine enough to successfully exclude no-seeums, midges, and gnats, the design is flawed in that the net is not nearly long enough to exclude them if one is not wearing additional neck protection, such as a balaclava, turtleneck, or button-front shirt buttoned all the way up, with the net secured firmly (with, say a small binder clip - what he ended up using) to one's exterior most shirt. This does not work well with a typical jersey knit t-shirt, or pull over long sleeve jersey knit shirt, like the ones he typically wears to work, to hike, or otherwise traverse our buggy climate in "no-seeum seasons." This product could work well if it were made LONGER so it's not leaving so much bare neck exposed on those wearing T-shirts or other types of shirt without high neck protection. You can see on the product image "model" that even some of HIS bare neck skin is showing under the net, and he is stationary, I'm presuming, for the picture. When walking about, bending over, etc., even MORE of one's neck - in both front and back - are actually exposed in "real life" situations. My husband ended up having to use a balaclava, a bandana around his neck, and a binder clip to keep the net fastened "down" to his long sleeve work t-shirt. Only then did it successfully exclude no-seeums and midges at this product's current length (we purchased it November 2025). Mesh is fine enough. Dark color of net offers good visibility. However Length of net is not long enough to protect neck of an adult wearing a hat with a 2 to 3" brim. If wearing a button down shirt one may be able to temporarily secure the pull cord under a button of one's shirt, but knit shirt wearers need another option (like a clip / binder clip, cell phone cord clip, etc.). Seller / Manufacturer: Please consider making a much longer version of this fine mesh net that would cover an adult hat-wearing person that is wearing a typical jersey long sleeve t-shirt like so many construction, landscape, roofers, agricultural workers and outdoors persons typically wear in hot climates with no-seeums. Also, while my husband doesn't mind the "closed top" design, I, a claustrophobic with poor vision, much prefer the open elastic "tube" style no-seeum mesh nets that allow me to pull down the front of the upper hat hole under my nose or chin while walking, then pull it back up over the rim of the hat when we stop or get into a cloud of midges/gnats/no-seeums. Thank you for offering the Ultra-Mesh net products. This is the ONLY mesh we've found so far that has mesh holes tiny enough to exclude Florida "no-seeums" (gnats and midges). This iteration of the product needs to be longer, however to be used by most adults most successfully if worn without additional protections (like balaclavas, turtle neck shirt, etc.) that then make the resulting "garb" too hot for even "Florida" no-seeum season. I just wanted to get a quick review out this morning, as many of us are currently in "super bad no-seeum season" and are currently looking for solutions. This one works IF you take further neck protections (button all the way up a broadcloth shirt, or wear a long balaclava, or wear a turtle or mock turtle neck), and potentially you may also need a "binder clip" or other means of keeping the net down and fastened to your shirt. See the model in the product's provided image to get an idea of where naked neck skin will likely be exposed.

So far I am pleased with this purchase. It's large enough to fit over a cap or brimmed hat (like in the listing photo) and has a draw cord to snug it around the top of the shoulders. As others have mentioned, it could be improved by adding length. The real proof will be when we travel in August to an area known for mosquitoes and tiny biting midges which some mosquito nets would allow through. This one is quite dense compared to others I've owned, but still allows good visibility.

I live near a big pond in the north-east. and the biting gnats are just horrible in the summer. I wear this over my hat and down to my shoulders when working in my garden, mowing the lawn or going for walks. The material is durable, with a fine-enough screen to keep the bugs out. I may look like a dork when I am wearing this thing, but It works like a charm!
