My 2 dogs love it when I sit on the porch and call out the tree critters. They are both have a high prey drive and they love chasing squirrels back up a tree. The call works great, but takes some practice to dial it in.

I do not hunt but wanted to use it call squirrels to grab a few nuts and vegetables I put out for them in our patio. I have had years of experience with squirrels and I think this caller like any other is not really meant to bring them closer to you. It will definitely get their attention if you practice for long enough to make the right calls. Note however the sound this can make are more of a sound a squirrel makes when in stress or a baby makes when they call for their mama. I think the manufacturer is using that sound to attract squirrels so that hunters can do what they want with the guns. There are some very nice videos online that one can see about this and the sounds it can make. Below are a few pro and cons and I have attached an image for size reference. Pros: >Can make a variety of sounds which can attract many more animals than just squirrels. This obviously will need you to practice and spend some weeks with it to get to a level to make the right calls for the right animals. Online videos will help with this. >Size is small enough to hide it in the pocket and still make calls using just one hand. This again needs practice. >Expensive. >Great as a gift. >Great for hunters. >Good quality and materials. Cons: >Needs more work on the squirrel specific sounds. I can tame any wild squirrel without this to grab nuts from my hand in 2-3 weeks or even less using just my own voice and techniques. >I have tried it for weeks and the same tamed squirrels never come closer than 10 feet on a high tree branch. >Not great for people who just love squirrels and want to get closer to them for feeding etc. I mean they will definitely show some reaction a first few times and then start to ignore it, specially if you expose it to their eyes. This call works really great. When i make the sound, them squirrels stop and come check me out and trying to see where the sound is coming from. If you hide yourself, they will try to move and look for you. The video is from a backyard but i will take it to the real forest and do again.

Forget complicated techniques and endless practice. This call nails the art of simplicity. Out pops a series of realistic squirrel sounds – distress cries, chatters, the whole shebang. It's so easy, even your squirrel-hunting-skeptical grandma could master it. This call isn't just user-friendly, it's incredibly portable. It hangs around my neck like a furry (well, not yet) fashion statement. No more lugging around bulky calls that make me look like a walking wind chime store. And let's be honest, looking like a wind chime store isn't exactly conducive to stealthy squirrel stalking. There is a slight learning curve to getting the perfect squeaks, but trust me, it's a fun curve. It's like unlocking a secret squirrel language. Not every squirrel is a sucker for a good call. Easy to use, and to me it sounds very realistic with minimal practice. However, I haven't seen any indication the squirrels care. As in no real response. It doesn't draw them in, and doesn't scare them away. I'll keep trying, but not sure it really has an effect on them. Talking about eastern fox squirrels in the midwest, so it may have a different impact on others

I have used a few squirrel calls over the years and this by far is the best I have used. I recieved this one today and played around with it for a while before going outside to see how well it works. I live in a residential area with lots of oak trees so there are plenty of tree rats in the area. I stepped out the front door and saw a squirrel run up a tree about ten feet away from me. I quickly tried to produce a fox squirrel bark that sounded more like a dieing chicken. My fault not the call's. Didn't really matter though because the squirrel reached the first limb and stopped dead in his tracks, looked straight at me, whistled twice and chattered. I was able to duplicate fairly close the sound he made by placing my finger over the end of the call and giving the bellow a couple of slow taps then took my finger off the end of the call and made a chatter sound. He immediately responded with the same sound. We chattered back and forth for a couple of minutes before I went back inside. About ten minutes later I went to the backyard and looked around. I didn't see any squirrels but I used the call and made the same sound as before. Immediately another squirrel in a neighbors yard responded. I have not had a chance to spend the time to see if the call will lure squirrels closer but I can guarantee you if a squirrel is around it will respond to this call. The only issues I had was getting the whistle to sound like the whistle the squirrels were making. I'm sure, with time, I may be able to figure that out. The second is the bellow may be a little too large. It is a little difficult to duplicate the barks and chatters because of the travel of the bellow. Again this might just be something I need time to figure out.

This is great and sounds like a squirrel! It does call them out, they don't jump into your hands but it's gets them out of there hiding spots to get a good shot. To do a charter you just shake it rapidly. A bark is just where you hit the top. Don't squeeze like it's a dog toy, hit the top. And cup your hand at the bottom to change pitch. It works great. People who say it sounds like a dog toy don't know how to use it.

Took some practice but I've had a conversation with a squirrel.. well it chatted back .

Très robuste, très bruyant, les autres animaux de la forêt confondent votre tapage avec celui du petit rongeur que l'on imite avec cet appeau. Vous bougez dans votre cache et le chevreuil vous fixe droit dans les yeux ? Deux ou trois petits coups et il se retourne comme si de rien n'était. Attention, vous ferez des rencontres surprises, car avec cet appeau, les autres animaux croient vraiment que c'est un écureuil qui fait tout ce tapage.

Easy to use and produce a good sound. Plenty of online videos on how to use it but for british squirrels it's best to listen to a couple of British ones then try to mimic them with the call

The call itself is great quality. It was quite good at getting the attention of the squirrels in the park but out in the woods I can't tell if it's helping or not. I don't really ever hear the Grey (Black) squirrels in southern Ontario sounding like this call though. Could be the squirrels or the operator! lol
