Only wish there was a bit more written history behind the photos.

This book is really a small wonder. It shows a world we thought never existed, and the pictures are so full of life.I was a bit surprised there was no more text - but it goes well with the topic, leaving place for imagination and fascination.I found a similar project on an Israeli website: http://rutiestern.wix.com/asfanit#!about1/c149l

An eclectic and interesting collection of random same-sex couples. Some sedate shots, some vivacious shots, and moods in between. There's no accompanying texts for the photos, but that's understandable since the people and their stories are unknown (readers with strong imaginations could enjoy devising backstories.)I want to mention that approximately half the photos are of female couples. I'm going to keep the book, but the subtitle led me to assume this would be a collection of only male couples -- the subtitle mentions "gay couples," but we're all aware that females largely prefer to be called Lesbians. Amazon should revise the product description for full disclosure/clarity.

What an Amazing collection! It's exactly as described: a portfolio of portraits. So if you're looking for text, this isn't the book for you. It's awesome to see vintage images of loving couples, friends having fun in the face of the secrecy they were forced to endure. A must have for your coffee table.

This book touched my heart and made me cry...which a book hasn't done to me years. A beautiful addition to any book lovers collection.

I, like at least one other reviewer, felt the title and dust jacket cover photo were misleading. My hope was to buy another book to add to my affectionate gay/coming-of-age male collection. But this book seemed to be about 85% group photos of "masculine" lesbians and "feminine" men (sometimes, lacking any notes or commentary as this book does, it isn't always easy to tell). Not that there's anything wrong with that - it just wasn't what I was expecting given the cover photo and given that the title only mentions "gay" and not "lesbian."Too, the historical importance of the work to the greater LGBTQ+ community comes up short because of the lack of any contextual commentary other than the very brief introduction. (Perhaps if I'd seen the documentary film to which the book alludes, I might feel differently - but, still, this "collection" should ultimately stand on its own).

This book is 100% photographs aside from a very brief introduction. The photographs are lovely and interesting, but I was hoping for something more like Dear Friends: American Photographs of Men Together -- something that included commentary and information about the era or whatever could be gleaned about the pictures (captions, etc). I have a hard time looking at pages of photos with no breaks or grouping or context, they all start to blur together.Absolutely nothing wrong with the book, I guess I just wanted something else.

Could have had more write ups and more images on each page to utilize all space but I bought it for the representation and it was just what I wanted.

A wonderful collection of photos old and new showing people in love.Superb, very moving and a great reflection on gay love throuogh the decades.

recognizing forgotten history..

This a beautiful composed and thought provoking slice of life that is long forgotten.
