First Book for Guitar by Frederick Noad
First Book for The Guitar No. 1 -- is ideal for the student with an instuctor. This instuction manual contains essential theory and pedagogical prompts for the instructor to help any student of ages 10 to adult to move along at the pace for which they are able to apply their abilities, desire and available time. It can result in skills that would easily represent advanced beginner or introductive intermediate level. Also, the student willenjoy duo playing with the instructor from the very beginning as it includes musical scores directly in the book. This keeps the student and instuctor on course with focused objectives for progress to achieve technical and dexterity of the left and right hand to include; reading of the music staff immediately without any undo difficulty. It makes playing the guitar enjoyable.I rate this non-bulking streamlined edition as yet 1 more of F.Noads great 5 STAR works of Classical Teaching and learning book that helps everyone interesting in learning the Classical guitar to step into the world of Solo Playing for any reason they could choose!J. She seemed to have liked it. She said thought it might have been a little more as she knew most of what it had in it. But she was pleased.

A great teaching tool.
This is a great book for teaching beginning classical guitar students in the 7-up age range how to play (for adults, I prefer his 'Solo Guitar Playing, Book 1'). I've found that not enough people know about this gem, and hope that this review helps with that problem.Books 2 and 3 aren't as useful in my opinion, but book 1 is great--it doesn't have a /lot/ of exercises, but it had enough for most of my students (and it's easy to supplement with other material). You may want to follow a slightly different order with some of the more complicated exercises, but isn't that usually the case?

Happy with the results so far.
My best friend's daughter has been my student for the past 5 or 6 months, and I have been using this book plus some arrangements of my own as the basis for instruction. Tonight, she and I did a little guitar recital for about 15 family members. She played great on the 5 duets that we did, 4 of which were the first 4 exercises of this book. These exercises (arranged as duets with accompaniment played by a teacher) got her confidence up quickly, sounded great as duets, and were easy enough to get her through the basics (holding the guitar, playing free stroke, etc.).
