It’s metallic paper. You might be able to use a black magic marker, but only if you let it dry.

Is this made in china?

I just opened mine. It is clearly labeled as made in China.

Do you recommend? Is this too thick to wrap gifts?

No it’s fine I wrapped all my Christmas gifts in it

Is the color shiny mettalic or dull matted ?

I have the red and the blue. It is a matte shiny... if that makes since. It isn't like shiny foil thin paper, it is thick and has really cool shine or shimmer to it. The red is the prettiest paper I've ever seen, the blue is a little purply haven't wrapped anything with it yet. Wish they had emerald green.
