I have a vacation house 250 miles away. I have fair to good internet. Would anyone recommend this for remote monitoring?

It should work fine. I live in Portugal on a remote farm using a 3G mobil phone connect to the internet (~5Mbps/.3Mbps service, 1.7 miles to the tower), ISANTARM9 on http://www.wunderground.com . So far everything has been working just fine and I am very happy with the unit, especialy the setup, basically just plug in the display unit. The outside unit and the inside unit communicate with the display panel, and the display panel commuicates (WiFi) with the router. What is the difference between this and the WS-1200-IP? Does this have a forecast mode?

There is not a big difference. The 1200-IP uses a special transmitter to get data to the internet. The 1001 uses the console. Neither have a forecast mode that I know of.

Does this come with any kind of mounting hardware? From the images it appears to be on pole but i can't seem find a pic that shows the bottom.

There's about ~4" stub out of the bottom (~1" diam.). Two u-bolt clamps are supplied for attaching that stub to a mast up to 1-3/8" O.D.. Mine is attached to a 10' pole (~1-1/4" O.D.) that's in turn strapped to a fence post on a hillside. They sell a bunch of mounting solutions, and you can either buy those or simply get creative with whatever you've got on hand for getting this thing in the air.

Does the Ws-1001 have a way of storing and graphing historical data and present conditions on my windows PC?

You can download much historical data into a program such as Excel and work with it there, but otherwise you would use the Weather Underground site to display the data on your desktop or other device. That works out quite well.
