RAURENI GREEEN WALNUT PRESERVE 250G

I never ate these when I was a child. I discovered that the unripened fruit of the walnut tree could be made into sweet preserves by a friend of mine from Greece. I've never had the ones that are homemade so I can't comment on that. I've always purchased these from a local Russian market. The ones that I've had in the past use fruit that has been slightly more fully matured -- so that the fruit are round with walnuts inside, and the fruits have more substance when you eat them and have a distinctly woody flavor. On the other hand, this is not the case here at all. These fruits have been picked very under-ripe deliberately and still have a slightly tart flavor despite the sugar syrup -- and there is no woody flavor at all. Based on other reviews, I think this is the way that people prefer it, but it's not the way that I have had it in the past. The fruits themselves are small, perhaps 2-3 cm in size and are a bit shriveled due to the process of preservation. it's not the way that I've seen the fruit before, either in Russian preserves or fresh, where it's usually a larger rounder fruit about the size of a walnut. I actually don't like this, and I'm just going to go back to the Russian market and buy some locally; however, if you prefer softer unripened walnut fruit without any woody qualities then you'll be very happy with this Romanian product.

I was hoping to buy walnut jam, but it is far from tasting like one. It's a jar of sugar with some flavorless walnuts in it. Do not waste your time.

Walnuts in jam are small and not overripe. I see only one issue with this jam - it's expensive.

Not many people have heard about walnut preserve. It is delicate and good. I remember my grandma used to treat her guests for short visits, with a spoon of walnut preserve - there are special china dishes for that - and a glass of iced water. There was a special treat for special guests :) .

Jar not sealed. Texture soft. Looks like its bad. Spat out fearing bad jar. Guess what? Amazon Prime but not returnable. Order at your own risk.

I love this. It's sweet but you can rinse off some of the syrup. Tasted just like the walnuts in Romania. I'm so glad I can buy this from the vendor in Amazon.
