If your manual says you must lubricate or seal with oil, YOU MUST DO IT. rubber dries out, leather (legacy guns) dries out, synthetic seals have extremelly low co-effs of friction, maybe they don't need it. That's why the manufacturer tells you what you need.

where do i place oil on my .177 gun

Store gun with barrel up. Too much oil will settle and can be blown out of the gun. Shoot it (unloaded) straight up into the air a few times. And wipe off any visible excess on the gun.

Will this oil work with a pump bb rifle and bb pistol?

Pellgun oil is Monolec GFS 8430 motor oil. Monolec is a special proprietary additive to increase film strength and lubrication. It is 30W motor oil, not ATF. But ATF would also work fine since it also is about 30W in viscosity.
