Some useful information presented (supplies sources), but too many trail & error information included. A second edition could benefit from stream lining.

CNC on a shoestring
This is a pretty good book on how to build a CNC machine on a shoestring.Lots of pictures, step by step instructions taking you through the build. The author set out with a goal of building a CNC router for under $100 (around £70) but in the end, the final bill of materials came in at around $300 (£200)I loved the "wasted money" section where the author talks about things he bought but didn't use. I also loved the sections discussing the improvements the author had made and some suggested future developments. In addition to the physical build details, there are also great sections on LinuxCNC and on how to use GCODE and MCODE.I would have loved downloadable plans to accompany the book but all the details are there. Can't wait to get started

Very informed reading and a great step forward in learning how these machines work
Having read the book I feel now capable of building my own machine although with some design alterations. Very informed reading and a great step forward in learning how these machines work. The only down side I found was not the building process but the electronics configuration and software needs..and this has left me in limbo as to first purchase the soft ware that is compatible ie which CAD design goes with or converts to g-code....the free ones talked about in the book don't seem to be free when it comes to downloading them. Anyway this may be down to me not being the sharpest knife in the box.....I would recommend this book for anyone wanting to build their own cnc before piling in buying lots of parts and then running into problems with the computer operating systems.....Chicken and Egg spring to mind.Very good book and pleased I bought It.

The title implies projects for use on the CNC but it is actually all about building one. No doubt of great interest to someone who is considering this as a project but as mine is all but finished it turned out to be of little use to me.

I got great good from this book
I got great good from this book. It encouraged me a lot. Could do with a little less fiddle faddle on the electronics though . and zero in more quickly on what worked best !
