The difference between the two Arduino UNO module is the ATMEGA MPU chip. The Arduino UNO uses the DIP version of the chip and the ARDUINO SMD version uses a surface mount ATMEGA chip. Function wise, there is no difference. The only advantage on using the ARDUINO UNO with a DIP style ATMEGA chip is you can replace the chip, while the ARDUINO UNO SMD version you cannot replace the chip.
