Magnets, how do they work?! (Updated again, Jan 2016)
2nd Update: I'm revising this review again because InfiniApps' new management is listening to and taking care of their customers. After seeing my review here, they reached out offering to send a new mount free of charge even though I was well outside the warranty period, and I was glad to take them up on it. A few days later, the latest revision of their mount appeared in my mailbox, so I put it through its paces right away. Pleased to say this product finally meets any reasonable expectations one could have.Simply put, the new design seems like it will finally address the durability issues people have experienced. The body of the mount is now wider and sturdier, and seems to grip the CD slot better than the old version. The magnet connects directly to the body via a swiveling ball joint instead of the fragile plastic neck that was used before, and this joint holds its position simply using friction for easy on-the-fly adjustments. The only negative about the new design is that since there's no longer a neck, the phone sits much closer to the stereo and, at least in my case, blocks most of the display. If I really need to see the display then I can easily tilt the phone up a few degrees, but this puts the phone at an awkward viewing angle. It's not enough of an issue to take a star off since I usually don't need to see the display, and the expected increase in durability is a fair trade-off for this minor issue.-----------------Update: I'm revising this review to 3 stars instead of 4 because, while this is a great product in theory, the design still seems to be flawed. I know the original mount had an issue with the neck that caused it to fail (which was fixed with the redesign) but mine cracked at the body next to the tensioning screw, and apparently this isn't an isolated incident as a few others have suffered the same failure. The crack in my mount first appeared a couple of months ago, and I should have sought a warranty replacement then, but unfortunately I didn't. Before long, the crack spread to the point where the mount became useless; when you tighten the tensioning screw, instead of pushing the middle "wing" out far enough to hold the mount in place, the main body piece next to the screw just spreads apart now and the mount falls out of the CD slot as soon as any weight is placed on it. It's now been more than a year since my purchase, so it appears I'm out of luck and this $25 mount is bound for the trash. Very disappointing. I've ordered a Koomus vent mount as a replacement - hoping for a bit more longevity with that.-----------------Original review: When I rage-tossed my suction cup mount out the window after it fell off the windshield for the billionth time, I figured I should hit up Amazon and see if there were more... innovative mounting solutions out there. This was about ten bucks more than a quality jaw-type mount, but I decided to give it a shot because the convenience would be tough to beat if it worked as advertised.Initially this mount had a tough time with my phone (Galaxy Nexus with Ballistic case), but now that I've switched to a much lighter Diztronic TPU case, it holds strong and true in most driving conditions. The CD slot mount is also an added convenience, because in my car it puts the phone in a much more driver-friendly position than a windshield or dash mount. The one-star deduction is because of the recent price increase, the struggle to hold heavier phones, and the tendency to go flying out of the CD slot after a bad bump. The latter is understandable to a degree, though, since CD slots weren't meant to be used this way (especially the one on my aftermarket Pioneer head unit).Overall, I highly recommended this mount for anyone whose car has a CD slot - just try to grab it when it's on sale, and don't expect it to do a great job if you have a heavy phone wrapped in a bulky case.

Extraordinary with a few minor gripes... Highly recommend for MOST, read on...
Overall Impression:This product is a great solution for most. The magnetic grip works impressively in most situations. The adjust ability leaves something to be desired, as the mount has its faults, but I won't drive without mine. I bought one for home, one for travel and chose this as a giveaway to my entire team at a recent meeting. All of them are so grateful to finally have a simple solution to driving while using your phone for navigation. How it works:This unit must have a CD slot to connect to, there are no other options. If your vehicle doesn't have a CD slot, this item is not for you. The way the mount works is, you insert some "fins" or tabs into the slot of your CD player, then tighten the thumbscrew until the tabs separate, gripping the inside of the slot. It's worth noting that the tabs "pry" the CD slot as you tighten the thumbscrew. I am have not seen any evidence of, nor am I concerned about damaging my CD player because I don't use it. If you don't overtighten the thumbscrew, you can't damage the CD player, but that's the hard part. If you don't tighten enough, it will wobble (I have had mine come loose and fall out) but if you tighten it too much (which I did) you could either damage your CD player - or - crack the plastic (like I did) so it was no longer usable. I had to buy a replacement. That said, just tighten firmly then stop. It's also worth noting that it would be inconvenient to use your CD player with this installed because you would have to remove and reinstall it each time you changed discs. I don't listen to CDs in my car so this is not an issue for me.The unit comes with small metal plates - one with adhesive and one without - that you can either adhere to your device or slip it in between the case and the device. The connection between the magnet is very strong. The problem I encountered is, that when you put the plate inside your phone case (which hides it completely) the thickness and materials of your case greatly affects the grip. You could just stick the metal plate with the adhesive to the outside of the case, but this is not an option for some cases, since the adhesive doesn't stick well to the plastic. If you're using the Apple branded silicone case, it works perfectly. If you're using a thick case like a battery case or leather case, you'll have some challenges. I stuck one on the outside of my heave Mophie style case, and even with the weight of the iPhone 6S+ AND the Mophie case, the external plate holds everything securely.I'm delighted with:The ease of use. Once it is inserted into your CD slot and tightened, then adjusted to your tilt, you just take your phone out of your pocket / purse, tap it against the magnet and go. This is so satisfying every time it grips, and I have been using this for about three years now.I wish these things were different:The angle of the magnetic mount can be temperamental. It doesn't have a "forever" adjustment, it's all temporary friction-based adjustments (like your car's rear view mirror) so after using it, I always seem to knock the angle off my desired angle and have to readjust with each ride. (Imagine knocking your rear view mirror every time you left the car and having to readust each time you got in) - so it would be nice to have the ability to LOCK it down (set screws maybe?) but that's a minor complaint. One more thing...These make GREAT gifts. (Make sure the recipient has a CD slot) becuase not only is it cool and convenient and under $20, but shows your loved ones that you don't want them driving around looking down at their phone on their lap. I ordered a dozen last Christmas and they were perfect for those neighbor or last minute gifts that you didn't think about.

Works as expected. I got 3 magnets with it. 2 squares and a circle one. One square and circle one had a 3m kinda tape to stick it to your phone. I stuck it my spigen iPhone 6 cover. Works like a charm and enough sticking that i dont think its going to fall down. Not sure how the cd drive is going to hold though. Also not sure how the heavier phones will hold. But overall satisfied with my purchase. it looks nice and keeps things out of the way.

love this!
Using this with my Samsung Galaxy S4, and a case with the metal shim in between the case and the phone. It's great to just jump in the car and throw it up on the dash in about 15 seconds with on hand, vs other mounts that make you fumble around with both hands to get situated. I can jump in the car and be out the driveway in a flash.

Excellent device.
I was looking to replace an old "sticky style" phone holder, as the membrane no longer gripped to anything. The car i drive is relatively small, so i don't have a huge dashboard, and what is there, is rounded in many places, leaving options to place a phone cradle limited. I stuck this to the window, and because it is small, yet strong enough to holder larger phones, it works great.

disappointed
Not pleased at all. I have it for 2 weeks and it snapped in half. I was using it with my Samsung galaxy s4, so it is not a very heavy phone. Not to mention, it snapped while I not not in the car and nothing was on it.
