Changing the face plate (removing the purple colored decorative backing) is something that can be done at one's own discretion. It is something you should be careful about, but is possible. This isn't something endorsed by Bandai America, and you won't find them selling alternate plates. Will i be able to connect the tamagotchi ON to the japanese tamagotchi sanrio mix?

You can connect the English release Ons with the Japanese release Ons, but not to the older Mixes. Only the Japanese Ons have the ability to connect to the Mixes. For example, I am able to link my Japanese Sanrio On with my American Magic On with no issues, but if I wanted to connect a Mix, only the Japanese Sanrio would work.
