Wasn't sure at first, but now I love it!!
I first bought a full towel set from Onsen's Kickstarter launch earlier this year which included this bath towel, a hand towel, face towel, and an enormous bath sheet towel. First impression out of the package was pretty underwhelming, I liked the cinder color and the towels are very generously sized, but they are very thin compared to what I've been using, and the material didn't seem very soft. Washed the bath towel and started using it- I am totally sold on these now, and bought another bath towel when I found out they were available again so I don't have to use any other towel ever. They are very thin yes, but once you use these for a little while they are amazing. I don't use thicker towels anymore, and I am totally fine with that. Honestly I'm debating bringing my Onsen towel with me on my next trip so I don't have to use the hotel towels. We'll see if I have space in the suitcase. I literally did not know a towel could leave your skin totally dry as I've never had that experience except with paper towels for my hands, but for me this towel absolutely dries me off. The towel also dries off very fast as advertised, though I only shower once a day so that's not as important for me. I do need to use the hand towel for my medium-long hair, as the bath towel on its own isn't sufficient to dry my hair enough. The bath towel is a good size for me and goes past my knees, I hate shorter towels- I am 5'2". As I said above, I also have their bath sheet which is too large for someone my size, but if you're taller than me like most of the population, either size would probably work for you! TL;DR Despite a 'meh' first impression, this is the best towel I've ever used and it is totally worth trying out.

From disappointment to delight
When I first received these towels I was disappointed. The towels seemed flimsy because they were thin and lightweight. After using them I still didn't like them so I switched back to my other bath towels. After using the Onsen towels, my regular bath towels felt heavy, bulky, and difficult to manage. Ultimately, I gave my other towels to charity and ordered more of these. The bath size towels are much bigger than most bath towels and the bath sheets are so large that my husband said that he felt like he was drying off with a comforter. The bath sheet will actually wrap completely around me twice with enough material left to tie the ends together to hold it up (my chest is 36"). These towels are so absorbent that it actually takes less time to dry my hair. Because they are so different from traditional bath towels, it took a bit for me to get used to them, but now I wouldn't go back to my other towels for anything. I can't recommend them highly enough!

No value proposition
I was looking for a luxury towel. I'm not particularly price sensitive, but it has to be worth it. Out of the box (dry), the towel feels gauzy and delightful, and I was hopeful. However, this towel doesn't dry me as well as any ordinary plush towel, nor does it dry itself any faster. It doesn't feel particularly soft when it's used in drying me off, and it has a tendency to smear water around the skin rather than pick it up. I read somewhere it could be used as a travel towel. It's quite light, true, but it doesn't dry itself rapidly like microfiber travel towels do. I don't see what the value proposition of this product is at any price, but at more than double the cost of regular towels, there's no reason to even consider buying this product.

Surprise! It is absorbent
This is a surprise! Bought only because the NYT Wirecutter recommended it, and I kept failing to find a good, reasonably priced Egyptian Cotton not-so-plush towel, I never expected to actually be happy with a waffle weave. But I tried it, and thought "that's not exactly terrible," and so sorta kept trying it, and the thing kept drying me. I now admit it's soft, absorbent, drys quickly, and I'm no longer shopping for an alternative bath towel.

Fabulous!
I seriously love these towels, the look, the feel, they just elevate my shower experience and they look great hanging there. Is it wrong that I sometimes stand in the doorway of the bathroom just admiring them? :). They are pricey, but I feel like they will last for years and years and still look good.

There are a lot of things that I like about these Onsen towels
There are a lot of things that I like about these Onsen towels. I like the simple stylish way that they look. I like the grey color that I bought. They did take a little getting used to because they are thinner than my other towels. Although they are thin, they are are still very absorbent. But it wasn't until I had used these Onsen towels awhile and then switched back to one of my regular older towels, that I began to really love them. Because my Onsen towel was in the laundry, I grabbed one of my other towels from the closet. It was clean, in fact I had just washed it the day before. I remember that I had even washed that load of towels in hot water and switched them right over to the dryer when it was done (unlike a lot of other times when I forgot and they'd sit wet for a day). But that clean towel sure didn't smell clean. It still had that icky mildewy smell. So, I used it once, threw it back in the laundry and went and washed my Onsen towel so I could use it the next day. I love that they don't do just what they claim, they don't smell.

Feels like a blanket instead of towel
Feels like a blanket instead of towel. Catches on your jewelry. It yanked my earring out on the second use. I do like that they dry quickly but this is the only thing I I like about them. I sure hope I can return them.

BEST TOWEL EVER. SO GOOD WE GAVE THEM AS GIFTS!
Most amazing towel ever! Very light, soft and extremely absorbent. Seems to magically wick the water away after a shower or bath it and dries fast. Will never go back to a regular towel again, not even the luxury towels can compete. Would be nice if they had some brighter colors.

Shreds and stops absorbing
Not durable. Had to replace mine less than 9 months in. There are better waffle towels that can last years out there

Perfect summer towel
I love how light this towel is, yet soft. Itโs great for summer and dries quickly. I do wish it was a little less expensive though. Update: after only a few months of use it is developing grey spots, even though I bleach and let it dry fully between uses. Disappointed.
