Field Expedient SDR: Basic Analog Radio

a good practical book that needs a vol 4!
as a person with schooling but no hands on experience with signals and modulation, this book is the perfect bridge from theory to reality. There's a difference between doing the math and learning how a real system works, for example the lessons show why in real digital systems, heterodyning to intermediate frequencies is not just a relic of the analog past.I'm going to start volume3 immediately, but I'm kind of wondering why there's been such a long gap in time between volume 3 and the promised vol 4.i hope that gap closes soon!

Wah a ripoff
Many pages are blank and others many are half empty. Then there are program copies of the screen. Three books on one.

They did it again!! One of those rare sequeals that is better than the first.
I loved the first book so much I just had to go for #2. It doesn't disappoint. Book 2 in this series focus more on Radio Frequency or RF than on the GNURadio open source application. In this book you step through and learn the fundamentals of radio waves and analog communications (not digital). Just like the first book you follow the instructions and watch the magic, everything works like a charm. The additional data files and recordings from the support website are great and specifically suited to each task as you go through the exercises put forth in the book. I'm so happy the Authors pushed out this second book to follow on the heels of the masterpiece that was their first book in the series. For anyone wanting to get into radio, communications, Electrical Engineering etc.... I've not been able to find a better tutorial series for these topics and I've worked in communications and specifically radio communication for over 25 years. The hands on approach, takes you out of the sterile classroom and into the Lab. Experimentation, observation, analysis these books keep you interested and break things down with simple explanations and examples.

Good intro to GNU Radio Companion
I successfully installed GNU Radio Companion, but I was struggling to find a concise introduction to building "flowgraphs". This book is a great introduction!Don't expect high math. This book is almost 100% qualitative. But the ideas are nicely explained for beginners.I ordered the monochrome version. Some of the plots are hard to read. Not a major problem for usability.Note that the authors chose the WX Gui. Not good! I found it to be broken, and in fact it is deprecated in the next release. Fortunately it is easy to substitute the QT Gui blocks to accomplish the same thing.Don't expect to be an SDR genius after reading this book. Do expect to get some basic flowgraphs going and start going up the learning curve.Nicely done! I will order the 2nd in the series.

Authors do a great job of stepping you through the logic of why ...
Picks right up where the first book left off and provides a straightforward and easy-to-digest walkthrough of how to build a software-defined FM radio using GNU Radio. Authors do a great job of stepping you through the logic of why certain design features are present (or absent) by both explaining and by demonstrating the effects in GNU Radio. Extremely helpful in building both an understanding of SDRs in general and also for teaching the quirks of GNU Radio. Very engaging and effective style. I bought the color version of the book and highly recommend it for clarity in reviewing flowgraphs (you can see different data types that are color coded, among other things).

and easy to follow
All three volumes are very well written, clear, and easy to follow. Everything that you need to know to get up and running quickly without unnecessary details. Where theory is important, it is explained simply and clearly. Excellent working examples throughout.

More well written and accessible content
This book flows well from the previous book. Once again it introduces some interesting topics and provides enough info to keep you engaged. This book is especially good for those interested in the world of SDRs and signal processing but who do not want to dive deep into mathematical formulas.

3 ouvrages parfaits
