AlphaTangle: A Truly Tangled Alphabet!

When I first got this book I thought it was really cute and loved looking at the letters, but after while I realized it's a great way to learn quite a few Zentangle patterns. What it is, is a book of patterns listed in alphabetical order and the examples of the patterns are drawn in the letter they start with. It's really a clever way to show the patterns. Each letter is made up of maybe 3 - 5 patterns and they are all named. The instructions for drawing the patterns are not in the book, but they are easy enough to find online or in different books you might have. I keep this book in my purse (it's small enough to slip in one of the pockets) and I look up the patterns online on my phone if I'm not at home. Not all of the patterns are on the internet, but the drawings in the book are large and clear enough that I've been able to figure them out on my own.The book starts out with a few pages about Zentangle, tells what supplies you need and gives examples of a few patterns. One thing I really like about the patterns being drawn in letters is that it shows how they look in different shapes. It's a little more helpful than just seeing them as a square because it helps you figure out how to draw them to fit in whatever space you are filling in. I would not recommend this as a book for someone brand new to Zentangle - try Totally Tangled for that, but it's definitely great for someone, like me, who knows a little bit and is ready to learn more. The bonus of having the book be small enough to use as a pocket guide is just great and comes in handy when you have a few minutes to fill during the day.

I have all of Sandy's books and it is a thrill when I open a new one. This tiny book is cram-packed with juicy ideas for Alpha Tangles. Each letter's combination of tangles is clearly labeled on that letter. The letters are large so you can easily see what has been used to form it. But, this is not a beginner's book with descriptive directions for each tangle. For this, you need to have either sufficient experience and know how or other tangle books, with the tangles listed. These will be easy to find in her 2 other books. Those 2 books are her instructive books. Very much worth the price of admission. Beginner or advanced, Sandy's books provide an excellent reference library in compact form. She packs her books with loads of highly structured directions and precisely pictured step-by-step instructions for each tangle. If you love to tangle, even if you are a beginner, pick up this book and add it to your library. You won't regret it. Add the others also....... I think you will be delighted with these as well.

I got Sandy Steen Bartholomew's "Totally Tangled" and "Yoga for Your Brain" books about a month ago. The latter two are excellent instructional books in the art of Zentangle, and feature original and official designs. "AlphaTangle," which measures only 5.5"x4.5," is intended as a pocket reference book and features 77 of the official Zentangle designs. The book's introduction includes instructions for 4 of the Zentagles in the book. The other Zentagles appear in alphabetical order, and are incorporated into letter designs. Each Zentangle is clearly labeled within the letter. Most of the instructions to draw the Zentangles found in the book may be found in the official zentangle website or in other certified Zentangle teachers' sites. The designs that are not found on the web, provide a challenge for the avid Zentangle aficionado.

I like the way it includes several tangles in each letter to give you ideas on how it will look when completed. And it had new tangles that I know i will use and adapt to my own needs. the only thing i would have added would be a variety of "fonts" like you'd see on a computer. Otherwise it is a great little book and worth the money!! perfect for doing initials.

I like the fact that the tangles used on each letter also begin with that same letter. I didn't realize it was such a small book, but thinking about it, it makes sense in that it's good to be able to take along when waiting for an appointment,etc.

I was delighted when Sandy's newest little Tangle book Alpha Tangle came out, I'd been standing in line panting until it arrived. I'm a real fan of this lady's drawings, they are a joy to look at and very encouraging to want to try and draw them for yourself. I hesitate not at all in giving this little book 5***** stars - much deserved and I'll keep my eyes peeled for her next one !! :-))))Kind regards, L.B.

Notice the size of the book - I didn't. My fault. Thus, I was expecting more. Not my favorite Tangles book but it's good for the purpose of drawing one letter one particular way. of course,you can mix 'em up!

I should have read the reviews..I thought it had instructions included but it is simple a reference guide.My mistake. Didnt need to spend the money on tangle information out there on web for free. Please Look at description and make sure you need what book is giving.

I bought this because I thought it would be good to do titles for projects in tangling. It's a very small book with one letter per page which makes it very clear; however, though it shows many different patterns and the title of most of the patterns, it doesn't a show step by step process of how to do them. Some of them I have found on line but it would have been much better to have it incorporated in the book, then it would have been brilliant.

Great little book but that's where it lost its stars, I did the notice in the listing but this book is tiny in size which was disappointing. It shows various tangles, a letter page as expected but there's no guides or step outs to construct the tangles.

This book is quite dinky, but it's lovely. Each letter is beautifully designed but not unobtainable, because once you're into Zentangling and are familiar with the patterns then you can easily replicate this alphabet using your own patterns or theirs.

This book is particularly useful for the Zentangler who wishes to stretch their craft into producing named pieces of work such as birthday gifts and the like.
