A gem for any serious guitar student!!!
As a professional metal guitarist and metal guitar coach I am always looking for straightforward ways to help students practice. The material in this book is well organized and easy to follow. This book sticks to what it is trying to do, outlining solid exercises to practice. It doesn't touch on the theoretical side at all (which is actually a good thing to keep things focused). That being said, many of the sequencing ideas will help open up players to the many possibilities when using scales and arpeggios, so in that sense there is much to learn from this book as well as to do (so pay attention when playing through it).The dvd is helpful as it shows many important aspects of how to play the exercises. It is beneficial for students to observe how relaxed an advanced player is when performing these techniques. The approach distance on his fingers is something unbelievable. :)If you're looking for activities to do that will help you get your chops up, look no further.

Outstanding Instructional Book
German is the best author in my opinion when it comes to instructional material. I've been purchasing every book he comes out with and have gained a great deal of insight. In this particular book (granted I just started), he offers lots of Pentatonic sequences that many other books fail to depict. This will bring life and improved technique when playing in your pentatonic boxes. This is just a tiny fraction of what's in this book but caught my attention early. You really can't go wrong in getting this instructional book. You will definitely gain lots of improved technique.

Very good combination
This combination Dvd and book is awesome. But with which book do you have to start. ? With this one or the Total shredder book from the same author. Both contain a good content but handling the same topics, scales....

Garbage
So overrated... The exercises are boring and monotonous but much worse than that is the fact that Schauss spends zero time on right-handed picking technique when teaching how to get fast. Proper right-hand technique is about 75% of the battle. Instead, this DVD just presents some exercises for your left hand, encourages you to practice them to get faster, and basically says "Good luck with that!" Check out Troy Grady's YouTube channel for excellent instruction on how to really improve your speed, especially Season 2, Episode 1 of the "Cracking the Code" series. And that's free! (I'm not affiliated with Troy or his site in any way...)
