Great for Windowless Bathrooms — Musty Smell Gone!
My sister‑in‑law recommended this air purifier after using it in her own bathrooms, and I’m glad she did. We bought three for our home, and they’ve made a noticeable difference. Our bathrooms don’t have windows, so they tend to get a musty smell — that issue is completely gone now. One of my favorite things about this unit is that there’s no filter to replace, which makes it super low‑maintenance. It does have a humming sound, but it’s pretty quiet and you can’t hear it outside the bathroom. Honestly, if you put it in a bedroom it would just act like a gentle white noise machine. The size is decent, but not a problem for us since we have plenty of space above the outlets. Overall, this has been a simple and effective solution for keeping our bathrooms smelling fresh.

Great product, manages air smell effectively with minimal noise
Works great to abate smell of litter boxes in my laundry room. I had to plug it up at counter height and the boxes are on the floor so I wasn't sure what to expect but it does a great job. Smells gone. I the noise is minimal, I made a video so you can hear it, just like a slight white noise. It is pretty big, larger than an outlet but looks nice and modern and the light is nice. I thought when I opened it there would be some sort of set up but it's super easy - literally just plug in and walk away, then give it a day or so to work it's magic and from then on, clean and sanitized air for all! When I researched, there were really two general options - a sanitizer like this or an ionizer. Seems like the ionizer isn't as safe so I went with this and so far so good after a few weeks of continual use!

Unexpectedly surprised by its efficacy
I have two cats, one of whom commits what can only be described as a violation of the Geneva Convention when she uses the litter box (seriously, it stinks). Even after I scoop and scoop, some of the odor still lingers, which prompted me to look for a more effective solution than scented wax melts and other similar -- but limited-time-use -- products. I researched a few different air purifiers and decided to give this one a whirl based on its other reviews and its reasonable cost. I'm so glad I did. This unit does a good job of cleaning the air in my bathroom (where my stinky cat's litter box is located). It doesn't work immediately, but it noticeably works in eliminating lingering odors in between my cleaning. It also doesn't give out any odor of its own, nor does it seem to collect or circulate dust and other air debris. In regards to it doing its job, it does it well, seems well-made, and won't likely give me any issues when I have to change the bulb (which seems like a simple enough process). However, this thing is bulky and its prongs aren't polarized. That means that, in certain outlets, it may "lean" a bit when plugged in, and it can take up significant real estate in your receptacle. I solved most of this issue by rearranging some of my power strips to put in a 6-outlet power strip in my bathroom, which this is plugged into. That gave it enough support to prevent it from "leaning" too much and allows me to still plug in other things without having to temporarily unplug this unit. It's also quite loud. When I'm in the bathroom, this device can easily drown out my thoughts from the steady whir of the fan. I think it'd be quite annoying if I used it in a more frequently used room, too, like my living room or bedroom. To that end, I'd only recommend using this in rooms you won't spend much time in.

What sorcery is this???
Y'all. I plugged this thing in yesterday about 3 feet from the litter box my two cats share. I had high hopes, but with a rather large helping of skepticism. These cats, man...they are adorable and cuddly and I love them to pieces, but they the absolute stinkiest cats I've ever owned. Yes, we've tried switching food/litter. Their litter box funk overrides every air freshener or odor remover or candle I've tried. In addition, our house is 116 years old, so it gets that lovely musty old house smell that's more noticeable some times than others (like in the warm, humid summers of Indiana). Our litter box is located next to our washer/dryer which is essentially in our kitchen. The room is approximately 220 square feet. Due to the layout of our house, the litter box is oddly in close proximity to the kitchen, our bathroom, and our bedroom. So the smell travels well. So, I get this thing in the mail yesterday, and immediately open it and plug it in. We had to leave for a cookout right afterwards. Came home 4 hours later and...the first thing I smell is NOT the litter box, for the first time in approximately forever. I intentionally left the litter box un-scooped before I plugged it in, so I could get a more accurate sense of how well it worked, if that makes sense. As of right now, I'm convinced it's made of magic and unicorn dust, because I cannot smell the litter box without standing directly over it. Incredible. About the gadget itself: it's roughly the size of a box of Kraft Mac and cheese. Yes, it emits a blue light from the front and top. I can see where it could be disruptive to those who are light-sensitive if it were located in a bedroom. But it's no brighter than any of the nightlights I own. Yes, it makes noise. It's a very unobtrusive "shhhhh" sound that is similar to (and no louder than) the fan in a computer. Tabletop/oscillating/box fans are louder than this. (Then again, I'd probably gladly take the odor-removing properties of this thing even if it sounded like a jet engine.) All in all, I'm amazed. We're getting ready to leave for a 10-day vacation here soon, and I'm always shocked at how musty and litter box-y my house smells when we come home from an extended trip (even with someone housesitting and cleaning the box regularly). So, if by some chance, I'm just imagining how well this thing works (with some nose-blindness thrown in), I'll know for certain here soon and will update my review. But as it stands...I'm not regretting a single penny I spent on it.

This is my 2nd Germ Guardian
I also have the original style, the gg1000, which is cylindrical shape. I love my original & thought I'd try this newer style model also. I bought 1st 1 for litter box odors & have been thrilled w/ it. I was scooping everything from litter immediately when home & still smelled odor which lead me to getting my 1st 1. It totally did the trick & has saved my sanity. I was finally able to get litter box out of the rm it was in originally & move it elsewhere (rmmate issues) & found myself not wanting to part w/ my germ guardian in that rm since it helps clean air & I'm often plagued w/ other ppl's cooking odors too. Doesn't clear those as quickly but to it's defense, it's a big job w/ these ppl. Can't imagine what it'd b like w/o it. So I ordered this rectangular style 1 for new litter box location & it's doing it's job. I Don't mind the white noise. I will say that this 1 did give off a plastic type odor for the 1st 24 hrs at least which my original didn't do. It did disappear after that time & has been fine since. The only design flaw I noticed w/ new 1 is it doesn't have a rotating plug like my gg1000 does which allowed it to stay upright no matter which way plug is & i really liked that option since I use mine in a surge protector power strip the long way. I was going to put new 1 in original rm & 1st 1 in rm w/ cat litter box but due to lack of rotating plug, I had to put new 1 w/ litter box cuz it just wouldn't work w/ my pwr strip set up. I do like the usb port for charging devices altho it's not as convenient in the other rm as it would've been where i wanted it, so that feature isn't as beneficial to me as it could've been. Even using unit upside down wouldn't have worked well w/ my set up. It's still a good item tho & really does work miracles w/ litter odors. I'd absolutely recommend either model. The light does look cool on new model also. It's a cooler looking unit, it just would've been even better w/ rotating plug. Hope this helps. Great product & great company. Do ck airways of unit for dust tho & keep them clear to keep it running properly. I have recommended to friends & family who also like theirs. 1 was for someone w/ an elderly mother who occasionally had incontinence issues her rm smelled. It has helped considerably w/ odors for them. The other uses to help w/ cigarette smoke in 1 closed off rm. It helps there too, better than w/ just their air filter going like b4.

Impressive! Really does clean the air!
UPDATE 12/29/16 Well, I've owned this for less than a month and it's no longer smelling fresh in our laundry room where our cats litter box is. When we first got this we had two cats and since then one of our cats passed away from cancer so now we only have one cat. You would think that with one cat that there would be even less of a smell. That's how I know this stopped working. The light is fine, it's still making a noise/fan, but it definitely doesn't smell fresh and clean anymore. I downgraded this from 5 to 3 stars because it did work in the beginning. I will be returning it since this cost almost $40 and no longer works. ********************* I'm impressed! I read all the reviews and noticed they were all positive, but I was still skeptical. I purchased it because I was really tired of smelling cat poop in our house even after I scoop it up RIGHT after they go. The house would smell terrible afterwards. I love our 2 cats, but I was really getting resentful about the smell. I work hard keeping our house clean, but with the house smelling like cat poop just made me feel defeated. I plugged this sucker in and within 10 minutes the room smelled fresh. It actually smelled like fresh air! I couldn't believe it! The cats' litter box is in the laundry room leading from our garage and then into our kitchen. We left to run an errand and when I came home, walking into our the house was pleasant. It didn't actually smell. I usually dread walking in because it always smelled like cat poop no matter what I do. I used to feel like we couldn't have company over because I was worrie of the smell. It actually smells nice and clean! I'm a believer now! I put a pic of the plug in right next to our litter box. Its was fresh smelling in the laundry room even after they just pooped! (Pic) It's the perfect place for it and I'm so happy we bought it! I'm buying two more. One for my son's room and one my daughters. They all have asthma and I think this would work great to clean the air in their rooms. It does make a sound, but it's a bit like white noise and the low sound is worth the clean air that this pluggable gives. I like the minimalist pluggable rather than the large air purifier that I have in my kids rooms. I'll be getting rid of that one since this one take such little room/space. I very rarely give 5 stars on anything, but this was impressive to say the least. 5 stars from our family!

Purifies our bathroom like a beast!
This thing is amazing! We have three cats in one apartment, so our small bathroom can easily start to smell, even with odor controlled litter and odor spray. I got this to help with smell and clean air in the bathroom. It works FANTASTIC. Not a single sniff of litter box left to complain about, and it feels easier to breathe! 100% would buy again. The only downside, if it would be an issue for your household, is that it emits a constant low hum. I don't mind this so much, however.

Fresher air, works on most but not all odors. Nice design.
I have been using this for over a week now and am over all satisfied with it. Let me start by saying get your scissors ready as this will arrive encased in the ever annoying plastic blister packaging. The key thing to know about this is that it does not remove dust or particles from the air, it uses only UV-C light and titanium dioxide to break down the DNA of viruses, bacteria, mold etc. Yes it does remove odors but not all types. I have several cats (5). No I am not a creepy cat guy, I just have a soft spot for wayward animals. I placed this next to the litter box that gets the most use. I clean the boxes daily but there is no litter that is 100% effective at preventing odor. With this in place I can say there has been a drastic improvement to the air quality in that area. I moved it to my kitchen while I was cooking a very fragrant meal with lots of onions and garlic. I left it on for several hours and it did not do well at removing those types of odors. It did however knock out the odor from my garbage disposal and dish sponge, which someone always forgets to ring out before tossing it in the holder. there is no product to break him of that habit besides a good slap to the back of the head though. Anyways, I would say this is effective at removing odors from bacterial processes. It claims to remove smoke odor, I don't smoke in the house so I can not attest to that statement. What I can say though is that I recently returned home just as this arrived and thanks to some coughing, snot dripping infants behind me on the plane I well ended up with a major cold. The good news is that no one else in my house caught it. I can not say that this is the reason but knowing that I have something capable of killing off viruses and bacteria that would otherwise be floating around the house makes me feel much better. I was a little surprised to read that the bulb should be replaced every 6 months and that it is only rated for 5,000 hours and will lose 15% of its efficiency after only 4,000 hours. I own another air purifier that I keep elsewhere and it also uses a UV-C light but that one is rated at 10,000 hours. (I paid a bit more for it) it has an ionizer as well but is much larger and I really liked the pluggable aspect of this product. It does not block the 2nd outlet of the wall socket when plugged in unlike other purifiers and the USB port is nice to have so I can charge my phone, plug in a lamp and clean the air all at once. The fan does make a bit of noise but it is not bothersome nor is it very loud, a soft steady woosh. It sit near it a lot and can't even hear it with the TV on. It is also aesthetically pleasing, does not protrude far from the wall and I love the soft blueish purple light that emanates from it. I do need to say though that based on the length of the bulbs life and and overall functions and features of this I would be much happier if it came in at the 20$ to 25$ price point, rather than the 35$ I paid. I will probably purchase another one for the bathrooms here but if you really want to get the odors out from all sources, kill germs and freshen your air I also recommend the Oion B-1000 or S-1000 air purifier, it produces a small amount of ozone unlike this product but it is far more effective on odors and has a UV-C light also
