Do these have nickel in them?

I am unsure.... I purchased this item a few years ago for my son who has a allergic reaction to nickel, but he never had contact with the key rings. I am sorry, I am unable to give you a complete answer with this question.

Are these difficult to open and close?

The latest batch does seem difficult to open. Using my fingernail to pry them open, resulted in my fingernail breaking. It was difficult to even get a screwdriver between the wires. I bought them to put keys on, so the good news is, they should be very secure once the keys are actually on them.
