Easy to set up and operate
Exactly what I needed for my woodworking projects. It runs quite quietly considering its power, and connecting it to my dust collector keeps the workspace tidy. I’ve used it on various woods from soft pine to dense maple, and it consistently performs well without slowing down. While it isn't the cheapest option, I feel confident in its durability and accuracy. If you're upgrading your workshop tools, this one is a dependable pick.

Replacing my 20 yr old Ridgid TP1300 with DeWalt DW735 ⚠️ weight, decibals, dust collection
I purchased this Dewalt DW735 to replace my 20yr old Ridgid TP1300. I've used it only a few weeks now. It is a great planer and fits as a replacement to my Ridgid. I do miss some features of my Ridgid. The outfeed table on my old planer was much more stable than Dewalts. Also, this model does not come with the outfeed so I purchased those seperate for $45. The Dewalt has a pre-set rotating depth dial for 1/8 -1" where my ridgid had a range from 1/8 - 1³/⁴". !!! This planer is heavy!!! I built a new stand with wheels to accommodate the 90 lb weight ... about 40 pounds heavier than my previous. The weight however, does reflect a heavy duty build. It is a tank, and the 3 blades give silky glass finish. The dust collection is a learning curve. It has built-in dust ejection and it ejects with angry force. The exhaust force is so much it labors my shop vac. The best solution for me was to get a Wen $130 dust collector and that works o well. I always liked the simplicity and effectiveness of my ridgid shop vac adaptor, but if you do not currently have a dust collection system and are running shop vacs consider you might have some adjustment to make. The dust port fits 4" dust collection hoses but also has a smaller port that fit my old craftsman 6 gallon. (very tight fit) Decibals! ... this planer is loud! It's an odd, jet-engine like frequency that moans. I believe it is a result of the dust ejection system. I purchased headsets as I never needed them before. It's not deafening, but annoying at lengths of time. ... The crank to adjust depth requires a bit more effort than most but I love that you do not have to lock the depth. Just crank and go! It may seem I am complaining about The Dewalt DW735, I'm not, I am really singing the praises of my old Ridgid and it's price point of $400 from 20 yrs ago. I purchased a newer $400 Ridgid model and returned it a week later as the build was not near par to the older model. I am convinced this $600 Dewalt is the best equivalent to my Ridgid I really like the Dewalt DW735 but consider ⚠️ some research and plan on some minor adjustments in dust collection prior to purchase. It is heavier and a bit louder, resulting in a tank with beautiful silky finishes. ... and it's Yellow!

An absolute workhorse
The finish quality is outstanding - boards come out smooth and consistent with minimal snipe, especially when using the two-speed feed option. The cutterhead design, dust collection, and overall build quality feel a step above other planers in this class. Setup was simple, and the machine is surprisingly quiet for what it does. Paired with a good dust collector, chip extraction is excellent. I’ve run everything from pine to hard maple through it, and the planer handles it without bogging down. It’s not the cheapest planer, but you absolutely get what you pay for: power, precision, and reliability. If you’re looking for a serious upgrade to your shop, this is a fantastic choice.

This thing is sick
Works good. Leaves a little indent when I put a long peice of wood through. I usually leave an extra little bit on the board and cut to size after planing to avoid this. Great machine.

Delivers all that it claims
This is my first planer. I looked for a very long time, watched all the videos I could find, did the all usual wavering,... So satisfied with the DW735! It’s true that I haven’t got much to compare my experience with in regards to planers, but I do know finishing. My first run of my DW735 was to plane some salvaged 2x8 floor joists from a house built in 1870. After extensive due diligence removing square nails, the planed results are very impressive! One of reasons I decided to try the DW735 was the option of running at different speeds. I first ran each of the joists through at the “Dimensioning” (faster) speed. On my second board, I noticed it had planes so smoothly as to leave that nice sheen we all love to see. I then played with the “Finishing” speed. I can report there was not a huge difference, but definitely visibly better in regards to finish. These heavy, old, genuinely 2” by 8” boards fed through the machine beautifully. The final point I’d like to add to this experience is the dust removal. I upgraded my shop with a Jet Vortex a short time ago. I’ve been running with it for about a month now, and had filled the collection bag with only about 2” of dust. I now need to empty the collection bag! Planets do produce a ton of dust, no surprise there. The reason I add this is the only dust that I could find was residue from the bottom of the old boards. This was the cleanest, most dust free machine I’ve tried. I would agree with the warnings that a shopvac would not be able to keep up with the volume of dust produced. With a decent collection system though, it was a very pleasant and dust free experience. In hindsight, I wish I’d have bought the 735X. I haven’t looked yet, but I would imagine the cost of the package including the in/out feed extensions and extra knives would be cheaper, but I’ll have to check. I used boards to level the heights of the in and out, which worked fine, but the tables would have been nice. If you’re looking for a planer, this one will not disappoint.

Great Machine with One Annoyance
First off, when setting this unit up you need to have a plan to manage the air flow coming out the back. The manual advises you NOT to hook this machine up to a typical shop vac and I now understand why. A typical shop vac cannot draw as fast as this unit puts out so you are basically creating a back pressure in the planer if you try to use a shop vac. If you find that this planer is blowing your hose off the back the problem is restricted air flow. Running it to a dust deputy is also sketchy (even in passive mode) as the outflow of the dust deputy is too small to keep up with the planer. On the web you see pics of users who use clamps and tape on 2.5” hoses but I think that’s a mistake. Ideally, you should use a 4” hose to a dedicated dust collection machine. Even then, you need to make sure your dust collector is running at peak performance to keep up with the output from the planer. If you don’t have a dedicated dust collector your next best option would be running a 4” hose into a passive collection box with ample air flow through a filter or a large filter bag. Another thing to consider is the weight of this machine. It’s not the weight of a typical portable bench top planer. Hopefully, you can enlist some help in getting it on a stand. If not, consider using a block and tackle to lift it. I’ve been using the machine for a few days and it does a fine job however the snipe is annoying. I’ve run thousands of feet of wood through my old Delta planer with almost zero snipe. I know how to support your work piece both on the in feed and out feed but the DW735 likes to snipe. After some tweaking I was able to improve to my results but I’m still seeing .003 snipe on leading and trailing 2.5 “that I can’t eliminate unless I use sacrificial wood. (see pic) Overall, it’s a very nice planer and its dust ejection is way better than other small units. I haven’t used it long enough to speak to the longevity of the knives but there is the option of going to the Shelix head. The controls are easy to operate and the on-board tool makes it a snap to change blades and maintain the machine. The dual speed feature is handy and other than the snipe the 3 blade cutter does a great job leaving a very smooth flat surface. The manual is minimal in the extreme.

Best benchtop planer you can buy
This is the absolute best bench top planer you can buy. The height adjustment is easy to use and produces consistent thicknesses every time. There is an adjustable preset stop to plane common thickness boards (1/2, 3/4, etc.). The two speed feed is a great option too. Start at the faster feed rate and complete the last pass on each side at the slower feed rate. This will get you a glass smooth finish without spending all day planing boards. I have used this planer primarily for planing hickory flooring, but have also planed cherry, walnut, ash, willow and reclaimed pine. All but the pine started off as rough sawn and ended up smoother than anything I could have bought in a store. The blade changing is not easy, but I have yet to use a planer that was, so I would say it is comparable to every other planer out there. Once you have done it a few times it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes. If you are only planing short boards, you can avoid snipe fairly easily by supporting the board as it is fed in and then when it comes out, but if you have longer boards, the optional extension wings are not really optional. I Have never used a benchtop planer that didn't produce snipe so I am not deducting any stars, and if you do buy the optional wings DEWALT DW7351 Folding Table for DW735 Planer , you can eliminate all snipe. This planer is also now sold as a packaged unit with the wings and an extra set of blades. I would highly recommend this package DEWALT DW735X 13" Two-Speed Planer Package Just as a side note, this is not a portable planer...it is heavy. If you really plan on transporting your planer to the jobsite then this is not what you want. If you don't plan on moving it around, this is what you want. Yes, it is more expensive than the portable benchtop planers, but it will produce results that are so much better.

Well Engineered
Just used the planner to clean up some projects that I had hanging around and I am very pleased with the results. I anticipate that future projects that involve mitering will turn out perfect without the amount of sanding and fussing that I have been doing in the past. One disappointment though, it's my guess that the box had been opened before but luckily everything was intact and in working over. I opened up the machine to check out the planner knives and they appeared to be new. The planner table itself had several scratches on it which is either a QC issue with Dewalt or some other funny business. I mention this since I had earlier ordered replacement planner knives only to discover them in an open plastic sleeve and very well worn and filthy. They were immediately returned. I have not returned the planner due to the scratches on the table since maneuvering 92 back to UPS is not worth the effort. Just did some maintenance on the rig. Blades are in great shape after several hours of planning black cherry, eastern red cedar, and rock maple. Anyone that gives this machine a negative review has received one built with issues. If you take care in the use of this tool, it will both last and produce great results.

Excelente herramienta

Solid, reliable Dewalt quality
We’ve gone through a couple of no name planers from Canadian tire, and one of them were so disappointing that we actually returned it just after a week. Because of that experience, I decided to buy this Dewalt planner for my dad instead. We are a huge adult lovers in our family, and it’s the main tool brand we stick with. This planner is great reminder of why. The build quality is solid, and right out of the box you can tell it’s made to last. The four post design gives excellence stability when running a material through, which makes a big difference in overall performance. The three blades combined with the two speed options allow for a smooth, clean surface every time. It’s also very portable, which makes it perfect for taking out of the shop and bring it to different job sites when needed. Overall, this planner is wonderful and exactly what we expect from DeWalt. We highly recommend this.

Not cheap, but a good value first planer for a small shop
Not cheap, but when the time comes that you need one, this is a decent machine. This thing is a beast. I have run hundreds of bdft of hard maple, oak and walnut through this, plus countless bdft of soft woods. It just powers through. It will make a mess if you don't control the dust, so some form of dust collection is an absolute must. I just use my large shop vac. It is also very noisy, so wear hearing protection. So far I am still on one set of knives and the finish is good enough that a little light sanding is all that is required. It can leave a little snipe on the ends if you are not careful in how you feed it etc, but that's true of pretty much any small planer of this style, just allow for this before making any final cuts etc. Overall this has been a great investment for my small wood shop.
