Kershaw Cryo Pocket Knife, EDC Knife with Speedsafe Assisted Opening, 2.75 Inch Stainless Steel Blade, Multiple Styles

I own three of these exact models. They are by far the best utility knife I’ve ever owned. They stay sharp. They’re lightweight. They’re very safe if you use them in a safe manner. Their compact. You can slip it right into your pocket or your tool bag. I mostly use mine to cut open boxes for junk. I receive at the house and then to cut the boxes down. I’ve used them to cut wire, and slice through mostly plastic stuff. The slip release of the blade is very fast and actually looks kind of cool. I have big hands, but it holds well in my hand when I’m using it. I don’t think I’ve ever cut myself with this knife, it’s not to say that you can’t do that, I’m just saying it’s designed well enough that it’s not harming you with bad design. I highly recommend this for anybody who wants a a solid all around versatile knife that is made of high-quality material materials and easy to handle.

Kershaw 155TI Cryo SpeedSafe Folding Knife This Kershaw 155TI Cryo SpeedSafe Folding knife is a fantastic knife. It comes very sharp but I have had it long enough that I have had to sharpen it and it holds the sharp edge fairly well. It is appropriately sized to conceal or carry in your pocket, whatever verbiage you want to use, in the state I live in. I suggest you check your local laws if you are unsure. It will prevent you from going to jail and that is a great thing. I have several knives and I carry this Kershaw knife every day. This Kershaw Cryo knife fits in my pocket well and doesn't drag my pocket down much. There is a nice clip that holds it to your pocket if you want to carry it that way. It opens with one hand easily and is able to be closed one handed if you are careful. It has a locking frame which holds the blade very stable for use. I love this particular knife. The finish is nice and hasn't worn at all in the 2 years I have owned it. Well worth the price you pay for it. I have seen many other knives in this price range and they are not normally of this high a quality. I have read that this is a Chinese manufactured blade, although I am not sure. Supposedly the US manufactured blades are superior strength and quality but I have to tell you I cannot imagine it is significantly better for the average persons’ usage. I bought this knife for a friend of mine when her knife finally went out of comission, so though I don't own it, I've had some hands-on time with it and I think I got some (hopefully) accurate first impressions. Generally, though, I hate writing about gear that I haven't used for a few months. The bottom line is that buying the Cryo for 30 bucks should be legally considered theft. This knife is fantastic for the price that you pay. In the first place, the action on this knife is incredible. I'm used to my assisted EDC knife (now discontinued) but this was great. No matter if you're using it as a flipper or using the thumb studs, it just feels solid. You can snap it open very quickly and I was surprised myself at how natural it was. I loved the blade shape as well. Like many others, I'm a huge fan of Rick Hinderer knives and his designs. I was concerned that this would be a little small but after looking at it, those fears have been assuaged. The edge was sharp and I've got no complaints about it. Overall, the knife just looks really cool too. If we're being honest, a good 90% of the time, looks are what drive our purchases and this one is a looker. The grey coating is a good touch and hopefully it helps protect the knife from some of the elements it will get exposed to. For anyone who would dare complain about weight, it's perfect. The heft on it is great and it gives you a good, very solid feel in the hand. The ergonomics felt right and overall, it's a very comfortable knife to use. There are going to be some inherent issues with a knife in this class, however. To me, two things stood out. My first complaint was that the frame lock on this knife should have some jimping just to give you a reference in your hand for when you're closing it. I'm not the biggest fan of frame locks but the Cryo's was very comfortable, minus that one factor. The other addition I might like to see is a lock for the blade while it's folded. On an EDC knife, where there's a chance that it will get dropped or something might happen in the pocket, I appeciate it if that blade stays shut until I need it. I don't know how often that's going to happen, but it's something that I really do appreciate. In addition, I will mention that the knife is made in China and while there can be good quality control there, it's still China. I would love to see this blade manufactured in the United States. So despite the limitations of the Cryo, I'm going to give it 5 stars because it is THE high-value EDC blade. In the time since I started researching it, this knife has become my default suggestion for folks who are looking for a good, inexpensive knife to carry with them and increase their capability. If you pay peanuts you get moneys, so the Cryo was definitely a pleasant surprise in terms of qualtity.

I received the Kershaw Cryo one week ago and really like it. IMO it is a nice looking knife and the finish is superb. I have never had a "flipper" knife before and really like that feature. The knife opens effortlessly and fast using the flipper and yet the blade stays firmly in place when the knife is closed. The thumb stud is useless on the Cryo due to the fact that there is no cut-out on the knife frame to easily access the stud with your thumb. However due to its' flipper design I personally see no reason why someone would use the thumb stud on the Cryo. The blade was very sharp out of the box. The pocket clip can be put in four different places on the knife which is another great feature. However, I did have a hard time trying to move the Pocket Clip to a different position, due the the fact that one of the tiny T6 screws that holds the pocket clip in in place was lock-tited with red loctite. and nearly impossible to remove. The difficulty that I encounter moving the pocket clip to a different position is the reason that I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 stars. IMO blue thread locker should have been used instead of red thread locker. Overall I am very pleased with the Kershaw Cryo and would buy it again. It's a nice looking knife at a very reasonable price.

I bought the Kershaw Cryo as a replacement for my old Schrade. I purchased the knife as a general purpose everyday use carry knife for the home and office. Size: The knife was just the right size for me, closed is 3 3/4 inches and the blade 2 3/4 inches. Since I carry this at the office to open boxes, cut straps, etc, I couldn't get a larger knife. They frown on weapon looking knives but tool looking knives are okay. Weight: This knife is solid. It weighs more than a Zytel handled knife but I did not find it too heavy. At this point, I an not aware most of the time that I am carrying it when I use the belt clip. Belt Clip: The belt clip is movable to 4 locations. You will need a very small tool to change it. After playing with it awhile I ended back at the original position. You can also remove it entirely. The clip is stiff and may eventually wear the pocket edge after considerable use. It is also a bit tricky to use at first. I now have no problems. Sharpness: It was able to shave arm hair right out of the box. I have opened boxes, trimmed plants, cut vines, etc and it still cuts hair. I have not attempted to sharpen the blade yet. Blade: As I researched this knife I read a lot about blade centering issues. The one I was shipped was nearly perfectly centered. The blade is much thicker than my old Schrade and also wider. It is very sturdy. I did not buy the serrated version because of the tool vs weapon situation. I may get a serrated version for a camping knife later on to cut rope and other things. Assisted Open: There are 2 methods of assisted open. I found the thumb stud to be completely useless. If I did manage to get it open, the blade would only travel part way. There is also the lever method. This feature was excellent. There are 2 basic ways I have found to use it. In YouTube videos they mostly show using you index finger tip to actuate the assisted opening lever. While this is okay, I found that if I hold the knife so the lever contact near my large knuckle of my index finger is much better. The knife is held more secure, it opens with a slight squeeze of your finger and is in the ready to use position immediately. Other assisted open knives have a safety lock to prevent the knife from opening in your pocket unintentionally. This knife does not. I think it is due to the distance the lever needs to be moved before the spring takes over makes this safe without the lock. It's really nice to be able to open the knife one handed rather than fumble with a safety lock while balancing a box with the other. General Construction: The Cryo seems very sturdy and has screws to tighten the parts if they come loose. The blade locks tight and has no noticeable wobble.The jimping on the blade and handle seem to be in the correct position. The finish looks nice and I use the pocket clip to keep it away from my keys so I don't know how durable it is. I love this knife and carry it everywhere. I have recommend this to several friends and would consider this knife again. I wished I could have given a 5 but due to the stud opening issue and the potential clothing damage on the clip, I gave a 4. Had the studs not been installed, it would have been a 5. Over all this is my favorite pocket knife that I have every owned. Update 12/3/2021 I update my option to 5 stars. Years later, this is still my favorite pocket knife. The clip has not worn my pocket as I suspected it might. I still can't work the opening stud but don't care any more.

Perfect EDC knife for me. It sits nice and low in the pocket and it's the perfect size. Small enough to not think about or notice but large enough if you need to use it for some serious cutting, etc.. The quality on mine appears to be outstanding and the blade was razor sharp right out of the box. It's been with me all week and no issues. The only minor complaint so far is that opening it from the blade knob is a little tricky. You can do it with practice but I don't care for it and you can easily cut yourself. The primary opening lug on the back is very easy and the only way I think I'd every want to open it. To be honest if they eliminated plastic blade knob and just left the rear lug I'd still love and buy this knife again. I'll update if there are any issues, but for now I'm happy. For the price is a really good deal. And I know some are worried about it being made in China but honestly, it feels like a really good quality knife. Update****3/13/17 Been carrying this every day and it's remained sharp and smooth as glass to open. Nothing has loosened up and it remains my all time favorite every day carry knife. 1/17/18 update****Update to the last update. Still carry every day. Haven't had to sharpen it yet. No heavy cutting but lots of cardboard, tape and rope. I'm probably going to get another as a backup I like it so much. Also the perfect size. I don't know it's there unless I need it.

I recommend you go pick this knife up. It is small enough to keep you from running afoul of any legalities (2.75" blade) and while it is a speed safe knife, if assisted opening causes you any grief, that too can be disabled. This knife is worth more than the price by far, IMHO. And now for the details. $32 buys you a Kershaw made knife designed by Rick Hinderer, and made in China. (That last thing might be a no-go for some of you, if so, I understand.) The knife has a 2.75" drop point blade in 8Cr13MoV. Closed length is 3.75", and it allows for tip up or tip down carry on either the left or right side. (4 position clip.) The clip rides fairly low in the pocket and the knife is small enough to be fairly innocuous. The knife is a frame lock and has an over-travel stop to keep you from bending the frame lock too far out under stress. While the knife does have ambidextrous thumb studs on the blade, I found them to be fairly worthless, and instead I only use the flipper to activate the speed safe system. The entire knife (handle and blade) is coated in a gray titanium carbo-nitride finish. The weight of the knife is right around 4.0 ounces, which is somewhat heavy for a knife of this size, but certainly not this style of construction, which is beefy. The frame is open/pillar construction, so it is easy to clean out lint or other dirt with compressed air or q-tips, should the need arise. I have found 8Cr13MoV to take and hold an edge well. I can quite readily bring it to a hair shaving edge, and it keeps that edge for a bit. Certainly not as well as a premium steel like S30v or better, but again, we're talking a lower price point. I like the Chinese 8Cr13MoV much better than Aus8 or 440 variants, as those other steels never seem to get quite as sharp as I would like. The one downside I have found to 8Cr13MoV is corrosion resistance, and the Cryo gets around this by coating the blade. Obviously the edge could still tarnish, and one would need to guard against that with an occasional wipedown with some sort of CLP. (Or hell, let it rust if you want. $32!) The knife arrived reasonably sharp, certainly usably sharp. Knowing me, of course, I had to sharpen it further, and I quite readily got it to a shaving edge. The speed-safe mechanism really seems to shine with smaller to medium size blades, and this knife exemplifies what I'm talking about. The blade snaps out and locks with authority. I'm very happy with the speed of deployment and the lockup. I could discern no blade play from either side to side or fore/aft. Lockup feels amazingly solid. In my opinion this knife opens faster than any auto I've played with. The knife also has a good size lanyard hole, so if you're inclined to do a paracord lanyard, that should be easily accomplished. I should also mention that this knife was designed by Rick Hinderer. His knives go for $500 from him and typically double that on the secondary market. (He doesn't make a lot of them.) His knives also tend to sport lots of nifty features like really exotic steels and ball bearing pivots. This Cryo has none of those exotic features, but it also has none of that exotic price. (Did I mention $32?) Here's the downside to this knife... Chinese made. Maybe you aren't down with that. If so, this knife is not for you. The knife steel isn't top tier. I am a big fan of S30v and D2, but obviously this knife has none of that. It is not a big knife. If you need a bigger folder or fixed blade, this knife will not suit you. It is also heavy. For a knife length under 3", a weight of 4 ounces is probably a lot, and would cause some to balk. So anyway, that's the full deal. If you have no objections to the downsides, I still say, BUY THIS KNIFE! ($32? Buhler? Anybody?)

There are a lot of really k-nice knives out there, and this is one of them. Cheap, and excellent build quality. This guys is with me every day. I have it on me while at work ripping apart and renovating houses, so it gets sweaty and dirty, hence I am a little bummed that it does get a tiny peppering of rust on the blade and scales. That said, I buy nice tools and blades to use, not to baby. The assisted deploy is so fast, and so enjoyable every time I pull it out to use, every time. I took it apart to do a full clean, sharpen, re grease, and grind a pretty deep fore finger choil. Now it is one of the most functional and sexiest knives in my line up. Used my Wicked Edge knife sharpener (of which I have many qualms with, rad system but really flippin putsy to get set up and actually get a knife done), the blade steel sharpens up great and with the more blunt edge angle (factory angle is to fine and rolls over easily if you use it hard) holds edge just fine, takes a razzzor edge, had to slow down using it at work because just grazing anything, my thumb pad included, separates material super smooth, surgical sharp. You can grind a choil like this with a little sanding drum and polishing wheels with a lil dremel, take it all a part and clamp blade separate to work on. - It so begs for it. I will probably buy more and give them as gifts, small price for a very well built tool. I think I've been carrying this blade daily for about 8 months (Great pocket clip, rides super low, versatile, - can re-position in any of the four positions you like, almost invisable, less noticeable - visually and physically than the pen that rides next to it). The ease and speed of use make it a go-to knife. Not to mention it's tough, and not precious, (if you somehow managed to break it, Kershaw will replace the blade, or screws if you loose them, and it's only $30 bones for a new one - I'm never worried about being careful with it, I just get to enjoy putting it to work. I don't think I would feel this way if it were a Sebenza... I have some edc's with better steel like a spyderco with VG-10 and some CKRT's but I always feel naked without this guy.

Är väldigt nöjd med köpet. En riktig toppenkniv. Var något mörkare i färgen än jag trodde den skulle vara baserat på bilderna från nätet. Vilket inte var till någon nackdel. Gillar verkligen den assisterande funktionen. Gör det lätt att öppna med en hand.

Vorweg: Wer sich wenig mit Messern beschäftigt, aber ein zuverlässiges Sucht ist hier richtig. Es ist quasi der federunterstützte Bruder zum Spyderco Tenacious. Für jene, die sich mit Messern auseinander setzen: Das Messer ist trotz der Preisklasse und dem Herstellungsort (China) von guter Qualität. Meines kam ziemlich scharf(Haare am arm konnte ich ohne Druck abschneiden) und der Stahl lässt sich, bei mir mit dem Spyderco Sharpmaker, sehr leicht sehr scharf schleifen. Die Klinge ist nicht perfekt zentriert, was vermutlich durch den Druck der Torsion Bar zustande kommt. Jedoch schleift das Messer nicht an den Griffschalen - insofern kein Problem. Die Beschichtung hält bisher ziemlich gut. Der einzige Punkt an dem sie sich ablöst bzw abgekratzt wird, ist der, an dem die kleine Kugel/Stift angebracht ist welche das Messer im geschlossenen Zustand einrasten lässt. Zum Framelock: Die Klinge wird zuverlässig gesichert. Geöffnet gibt es weder nach nach oben/unten noch seitliches wackeln. Wenn das Messer mit der Spitze nach unten getragen wird, verschwindet es komplett in der Tasche. Trägt man es "Tip up" schauen ca 5 mm aus der Tasche heraus, was immer noch ziemlich gut versteckt ist. Den Clip kann man auf beiden Seiten oben und unten anbringen. Allerdings ist das Messer recht klein, weshalb ich bei Größeren Händen ein Lanyard für sicheren Griff anbringen würde. Bei mir rutscht sonst der kleine Finger etwas von der Schräge ab, jedoch nur wenn ich es wirklich fest greifen muss. Kurz und knapp: für kleines Geld ein tolles kleines Arbeitsmesser.

It's sharp and sturdy, but quite heavy and requires to much pressure to deploy. In 2023 there are better alternatives. I have large hands and to me it's a three finger grip.

Trotz seines recht hohen Gewichts (bei Edelstahl aber nicht überraschend) überzeugt das Kershaw durch seine Handlichkeit, sein Design und seine Verarbeitung. Die Klinge ist angenehm scharf, und bislang sowohl schnittfreudig und hält die Schärfe. Die Carbon-Nitrit Beschichtung in Titanoptik überzeugt. Für jeden der das Hinderer-Design schätzt ein sehr tauglicher und kostengünstiger Begleiter, der durch seinen variablen Clip gut zu tragen ist. Das Speedsafe erscheint mir ein wenig übertrieben, und für ein solches Messer unnötig, funktioniert aber tadellos. Die Daumenniete funktioniert ebenso gut wie der Flipper, obgleich bei zu festem Griff das Framelock den Auswurf behindern kann.
