The way I look at it, a PSU either works or it doesn't. Chances are good that if you are also considering on purchasing a power supply at this price point, you also have the same viewpoint as I. I've always told users that actually putting together and assembling a computer is not difficult at all. The hardest part is purchasing the right parts that goes in to that computer! This power supply has all the juice I need for it to power my budget build and the price looks very attractive as well. Antec, while I believe they are not considered one of the top power supply makers out there in terms of quality wise, they are still a good candidate. I love Antec computer cases (I think they are the same company) and so I would like to think they would make good power supplies as well. There's really not much else to say. It has the connectors I need and well, the power supply works! What many users want to know is is the thing quiet enough. I can assure you that this unit is pretty much dead silent when in operation. In fact, most power supplies I've come across these days are very quiet as well so you really don't have to worry too much about this issue. Many experienced PC builders can assure you that you should never, ever skimp on your power supply unit. It is one of the main component that actually gives all your hardware power and so a poorly made power supply can actually increase the chances of it ruining your computer. Although I do admit that I rarely see this, do you really want to take the chance? You could in reality save $10-$15 dollars and get a cheaper power supply but you also should understand the risk of doing so. I believe this Antec power supply is a perfect balance between it being cheap and yet still trustworthy enough for me to put in my build.

I bought this power supply to replace the power supply in a Dell Studio 540 MT (mini tower - not the slim version). The original died about 3 and a half years into its use after a storm knocked out the power. The original power supply was always a bit noisy and laboring to run the two drives, original video card and dvd-rw unit. From what I can see by the specs, the original power supply is really only capable of outputting 300 watts consistently rather than the 350 it is rated at. Anyway, the new ANTEC power supply is a very good buy at 40 bucks. Dell and other sites will sell you a wimpy 350 watt power supply for 60 bucks or more. This power supply comes with a 2 year warranty and is quiet and smooth and gives you 450 watts of power. There are two pairs of cpu power connectors, but the Dell motherboard only has room for one. Other than that, replacing the power supply was pretty straight forward. Rather than run the cables back under the tabs in the Studio 540, I opted to use the locking plastic tie that came with the new power supply to bundle them in an out of the way location. The hardest part is removing the old power supply as all of the cables are secured in 3 different tabs/grooves. Once you find all those and release them, you are home free. ANTEC power supplies have been around for quite awhile and as long as you don't buy a bargain basement model, you will probably have good results with them.

I have had this for only a few weeks now and so far its great. Its very quiet and has plenty of connections for peripherals and whatever you need. Length of cords are good. For the value you can not beat it. Just make sure you know how much power you need for your build. So far so Good! Follow Up: Six months now and this thing is still running smooth as silk. Very quiet with no issues.

Revised 03/27/2013 I initially bought this quite some time ago (see Original review) PSU is doing exactly what I expected - just getting the job done with no surprises. Solid design even though one large 12V rail is preferable (price is right and it has a solid rep). The second time seems to be showing what I suspected - just got that unlucky (small percentage) bad unit. This one should last as long as the system - no problem. Now rate at 4.75 stars. Revised 12/23/2012 Bought another one (price came back down and made it a better choice then other options for a solid budget PSU) to replace a cheap budget PSU on a second system. Second time should be a charm. These are well made, so Original review: I expect this to be a long lived PSU (there is always an occasional bad one). I will leave it at 4 stars for now (I expect to set it to 5 after 9 months), and report back in several months if get a chance. Of course the problem with long term regular use tests of computer equipment: By the time real long term reports are in, we are onto the next generation and have to worry about new designs. But this PSU really does get an A for a solid budget PSU, based on components and deign. Would prefer one large 12V rail, but the price is good on this one.Unfortunately mine failed within 25 days. Simply refused to power up. So why give a product 4 stars when it failed? While working - it was exceptionally quiet and all worked well. There are no perfect products and everyone gets a bad one if you are in the market long enough. Specs on these units are great (they are made with the best quality parts, and for the money, have only a couple of rivals). Sadly the price jumped since returning mine. Now I have to look at other brands.

Antec used to be the "go to choice" but they for a few years had some quality problems. This is now the 2nd one like this I ordered and both are working perfectly. They deliver a LITTLE more power then they state (I was "overbudget" by 10w), and that's a good thing. It has some "headroom" as they say in the puter building business. I wouldn't attempt to put it in place where say 500w is needed, but if ur just a few watts over budget, this has you covered. It has all the usual plugs that you need. Keep in mind it only has 1 six pin connector for the graphics card, but unless your getting a top of the line graphics card, this should do. There's only a few that need two 6 pin connectors for the graphics card. If you get one of them get a higher powered psu is my advice. The cords length is perfectly acceptable. U really don't want too much, and this one isn't. A little extra but not too much. The cables are not wrapped, so u'll need to do some cable management or u'll have a "Spaghetti mess" on ur hands, but agin, that's not an uncommon problem. A competent system builder can manage this. Overall a solid psu.

Well I got this after my old and extremely cheap PSU decided to commit suicide. Thankfully nothing else was damaged by it. I didn't want to get another POS so I researched what PSU's where the best for my price range at the time which was around a whole $45. lol Anyway I saw that this PSU was of pretty good quality through a very helpful thread on an egg forum and found out the only reson it isn't 80plus certified is because it lacks APFC. It gets anywhere from 80%-85% So what is this powering on my PC? Phenom II x4 @ 3.0ghz Overclocked HD 5750 3 HDD's 4 120mm fans and one 200mm fan. This thing is a work horse and I can't say I could have gotten something better for the price. The only thing I noticed was that it cannot be mounted upside down very well. I found this out accidentally when I switched cases and wasn't paying attention while installing it. Installing it upside down would make the fan on it squeal after around 10-16hrs of it being on. Mounting it correctly solved this issue.

I had a Thermaltake 700 watt monster PSU for my big gaming and webmaster box. I was working on the office and accidentally turned off the breaker without powering down first. As most of you probably know, you shouldn't turn off the power before turning off the computer. But I forgot, and this very hefty Thermaltake modular PSU that cost me over $130 just could not handle it. I would like to mention that it was SUPPOSED to have some controls in the BIOS that would crank down fan speeds on both the CPU and chassis fan so that you could use it quietly when there was not a lot going on, and it was supposed to crank the fans up as you used more resources. That set of features NEVER worked with my ASUS motherboard, and even after calling and writing Thermaltake, they were not willing to support it as an ancillary feature. They would not exchange it for something like a "bonus" feature not working. So I bought this little 450 watt Antec as a replacement, after reading the reviews. I am absolutely thrilled with it. It powers everything, including three SATA hard drives, one old IDE hard drive (power hog) and one each SATA and IDE DVD burners. I bench tested everything before packing it back into the case and levels on all rails were perfectly stable and well conditioned, in spite of one rail being significantly loaded compared to the others. It had the "+4" for the main connector and two 4x4 connectors in case I had had a second CPU socket (which I didn't but what if I want to use it elsewhere?) and for $35, it was nearly $100 less than the power hog that just conked out on me. Once I set up the settings in the BIOS for the quiet fan features (I set the CPU fan on "optimal" and the chassis fan on "silent") and restarted it, I was shocked. It is just as quiet as my tiny SFF office box that sits next to the gaming box. Not only that but it has a great looking shiny black case and invisible black fan so that if I wanted to, I could have a glass-sided box (which I don't but you never know if I might want to) so it looks great too. It does NOT have braided covers for the rails, but most builders want to use their own anyhow. I'm impressed. I'm an IT professional and I endorse this lovely little PSU. :)

I have mixed feelings about the Antec VP450. The first one I ordered was DEFECTIVE. Because of this, I have to question the quality control on this unit. As soon as I opened it, and tested the voltages, I was able to verify poor and unstable voltages through out this unit. Since this unit was bad, I figured, maybe I'll just try it out on one or two of my older PC's for giggles, just to see if it could provide enough stable enough power to one of those systems(I wasn't to concerned about it destroying components as these were very old PC's of mine. BUT, IT DID NOT. It caused me all kinds of issues -- mainly the unit under supplied/ lacked enough current to the cpu, causing the system fans to rev up and the pc to power off. I kinda suspected this, though -- having 20+ years experience building and repairing PC's. Also the input on the back of the PSU (where the cable plugs in) felt janky and loose straight out of the box. This is where the questioning of "quality control" comes in... and frankly, was unacceptable. Amazon was quick to send me a replacement of the same PSU though, and the second PSU I received is working great and insanely quiet, and appears to be very stable thus far. If it wasn't for the first PSU being so defective, I would of gave this unit a higher rating. Because for the price, the second one I received does in fact feel like a good deal and is whisper quiet. It's also got a nice heft/weight to it. I will try to update in the future, if this unit goes bad before the warranty runs out. UPDATE: It is now 3 years later and the second PSU replacement I recieved is still going strong without a hitch or without any issues. The first one I ordered must have been a dud. The second one continues to run like a champ and be very stable.

Good quality product and fairly quiet. I have an i5 desktop running an AMD 7770 video card and a 1TB hard drive. It powers this combo with no issues and so far I am quite happy with it's performance. I have had this for about a year and it's still going strong. One of the best value power supplies out there in my opinion and although I still would like to upgrade, I will only need to when I decide to replace my video card. Overall, very satisfied.

In Canada, everything costs more than in the US, and PSUs are no exception. Looking through at the Corsair CX models which were $50 at the time (rebates suck) while being $30 in the US, I was looking for an alternative on a budget. This was $35 here and I hope they keep making them as they are really well built at that price. Bought this on March 23rd, 2013 for a work PC. Ran a Ivy bridge i3 and a HD 7770 with it no problems. It's slightly noisy, but that can be because it's not under a desk or maybe I have sensitive hearing. To the 1 star review that says about "no certification", that is not true. If memory serves me well, it was not "Haswell certified"(although it worked with Haswell CPUs) and as the description clearly says it is indeed Energy star certified. There is no chance that this will "blow up" as Antec is one of the leading OEM for Power Supplies. This means they actually make their own PSUs unlike many other companies that just slap their sticker on generic models.

Not as quiet as a lot of people make it out to be, but it's not bad, it's well built & definitely worth the price point. a great replacement/light upgrade for your stock PSU.
