Are the keys unique per diary? That is, if I bought 2, 1 for each of my kids, will they be able to unlock each other's diaries?

Nope the keys are the same for all of them.

Do you create a code, or does it come with one? And how does it operate\work?

This is a simple diary with "vault" artwork on the front. It is not electronic. As you can see in the picture, it comes with a lock and key to close it.

As stated in the product features: "Diary measures approximately 5.5" wide x 6.25" high; for ages 5 years and older"

does it come with a password or just a key and a lock

the safe is just a drawing. it comes with a lock & 2 keys. they are thin, not heavy/good quality. my 8 year old was very happy with it though
