Can the stainless steel portion stay on for washing in the dishwasher?

I wash mine with the stainless portion on I have not removed them. Have been using them since Christmas every day and they are doing well.

Can someone tell me the size of these glasses in inches? Height and width? Better yet, circumference at the narrowest and widest points?

The diameter of the base is a shade over 1.75". The glass is something over 1mm thick at the rim, and several mm at the base.
