Great all-purpose shaver
I have been using this shaver for about 4.5 months now, and it is my go-to for all of my shaving needs. Now, I'm not one of those guys that likes to have baby-smooth skin on my whole body, and this shaver won't do that for you. You can get a very, very close shave with the pivot head, but it won't be the same as using a razor, waxing, etc. Even though this shaver is a body groomer and not advertised as a facial hair trimmer, I do use it to trim my beard, and it works very well. I usually use the blade guard on 1 to do this. I also take the guard off to clean up my neck before using a razor. I have very sensitive skin so getting the hairs as short as possible before using a razor helps ease the discomfort. This shaver is advertised as a body groomer, and body grooming is what it does best. The trimmer blade works very well on the torso, providing a close shave in just a few minutes. Now, for the more sensitive parts of the body, the 3D pivoting head is a charm. For the first time, I can really clean up the most sensitive of body parts without any discomfort, pain, etc. The performance and battery life are really good. I usually give it a full charge every few weeks, letting the battery run pretty low before charging. I've never had any hairs get caught within the blades or the foil. It gives a very clean shave. Aside from the great performance of the shaver, I commend Philips on the design. It is aesthetically pleasing and has a modern look to it, so I'm not afraid to leave it on the bathroom counter at times. The ease with which the blade guard can be installed, adjusted, removed is fantastic. And since the guard is adjustable, I don't have to worry about keeping up with several guards; there's just one, and it's alway connected to the shaver. The guard is plastic, but it seems to be of good quality, and I don't see it ever breaking. In summary, this is a great product, and for the price point, I don't think there's anything better out there. Give it a try, and see for yourself!

Works great!
I ordered this groomer after reading a lot of positive reviews on Amazon. When I received it, there was enough of a charge to give it a test drive, although the low battery indicator light was flashing about half way through. I'll only be using this on the south of the border region, as I don't have chest or back hair. And it had been awhile since I had performed any grooming because I was looking for a new shaver. Needless to say, this thing had its work cut out for it. It performed brilliantly. I used the trimmer end first, to knock down the high stuff. I originally set it on the longest setting, as a bit of a precautionary thing. It's always a little nerve-racking when there are mechanized devices with cutting heads in that region. I did a once over on the highest setting. No problems, so I adjusted the trimmer to the shortest setting. Again no problems! Well, I prefer a smooth shave down there, as does my wife, so I turned the trimmer end off, and switched to the razor end. It's really nice that only one end will operate at a time. It decreases the chance cutting yourself. Anyway, the razor shaves really close. Almost as close as a manual does. The best part? NO IRRITATION!!! NONE WHATSOEVER!!! I was amazed. Normally, after trimming and then shaving with a manual, I'd end up with some razor burn/irritation 1-2 days after. I had none at all with this groomer. It's fantastic!! It's completely "frank and beans"safe. No nicks, cuts, or gashes of any kind. I did read some reviews of other groomers that people suffered such casualties. Ouch! The only downside to this in my opinion is that it is a little awkward at first. It's got a slight bend in it, I assume to make it more comfortable in your hand. But, it makes it awkward when you're trying to trim/shave certain areas at certain angles. This is easily overcome though by repeated uses, and becoming more comfortable with handling the device. Clean-up is a breeze. The trimmer guard and head come off, as does the shaving head. You can choose to either simply brush everything clean with the included brush, or you can do a combination of brushing and rinsing under the faucet. If you rinse, just let everything air dry when you're finished. Very simple. I can't say how many uses you will get out of a single charge. I guess it depends on how regularly you use it. The manual does say a single 8 hour charge will last 50 minutes of operation. One last thing is that there is a registration card included in the packaging. You can register online, which you'll earn either an additional 6 months of warranty on the groomer, or a 15% discount on your next purchase of $100 or more at the Philips Norelco online store. I chose the extended 6 month warranty. One last thing. My wife saw how well of a job this does, and has been begging me to let her use it as well. I'm sure it would work equally as well for women.

Great product and does what it says
After using the Panasonic ER224s for years, I wanted a new one that could be used in or out of the shower. After looking for a trimmer to shave my chest and lower region in the shower, I came across the Philips BG-2040 and Remington BHT-650. Before I buy any product, I like to see it up front and feel it in my hands so I know what Im getting. I went to my local stores (Best Buy, Target, Walmart, BedBathAndBeyond) and they all had the Philips BG-2040. Not one store had the Remington BHT-650. I didnt want to buy it online and then have to go through the hassle of returning it if I did not like it so I scratched that off my list. After reading reviews and searching for a trimmer that would work in the shower, they all pointed me to the BG-2040. I went ahead and purchased it from Amazon for $49 with S&H included. I received it about 2 days ago and I was able to use it today in the shower. If you use this in the shower, you will need shaving cream with warm to hot water. I neglected to shave the past week because I was waiting on delivery of this item. While I was shaving my chest with the shaver part, it was a little difficult because my chest hair was about 1 inch long. I flipped the shaver to the trimmer side and I was able to trim with ease. Once I was done with the trimmer side, I flipped back to the shaver side and it shaved with no problems. I started shaving the top part of the shaft with the trimmer and it went really well up until (GULP) my DAM hot water went to cold water real fast and I had nippleitis (HAHA). Anyway, this shaver/trimmer is an excellent product and does what it says. I would suggest not to let your chest hairs grow to long cause then you will have to shave with both the trimmer and shaver. If you groom yourself weekly, you should be fine. There are 3 things Id like to point out about the shaver. 1-I have not been able to read anywhere online about this, but the 5 setting trimmer end, the head actually comes off completely which I did not know and thought it was there permanantly. This is perfect because I like to use the lowest possible setting when using the trimmer. (See pics) 2-The charging portions is OK. Initially you have to charger the product for 10 hours. After that, the manual states that the shaver/trimmer should be used twice a year where you let it die completely where the motor stops working. 3-The shaver/trimmer comes with a nice charging stand. I l;ike the idea and I want to leave it plugged in when not in use, BUT the manual states that the shaver/trimmer should never be put on the charger after your using it and never leave it on for more than 24 hours. If I am gonna put the stand on my counter, then why would I want to plug my shaver in if its not gonna charge unless its dead? Seeing that the shaver only last about 50 minutes, then you would have to constantly plug the charger in. Pros: -Strong feel to the shaver/trimmer -Can be used in the bath/shower -Removable trimmer head -Built in trimmer head so you never have to search for the correct one -Trimmer and Shaver on 1 machine Cons: -Not able to use the shaver while plugged in -Not able to leave the shaver in charger overnight (24 hours) Conclusion: -Even thought the shaver cant be left on the charger, this is an excellent product for what it does. From the looks online, this is the best item that can be used in or out of the shower and you get the best of a trimmer and shaver in one. I would recommend this to anyone.

Much Better than the Original BodyGroom!
After using 2x of the original BodyGrooms 2020 models *which in my opinion are junk overall* but they are easier to use with out getting any nicks or irritation. I am giving the 2040 a 5 out of 5 stars because once you get used to it *took me a couple of shaves* and the first I did nick myself on the first shave but afterwards no irritation or nicks at all. I have used the following products for shaving: bodygroom 2020, body bare, quite a few Multi-bladed razors and even using electric clippers. The body bare was alright for stubble but would not touch the longer hair and the included clippers with the package I had purchased with it, irritated skin and don't even think trying to use any of them in sensitive areas unless you want to have a sex change lol. The 2040 does a great job and yes I did nick myself by not paying attention but the next couple of shaves = nick free, pain free and pretty smooth. The 3D head of this bodygroom, helps get everything smooth *not bbs like a razor* but pretty close. Add a Mangroomer pro back shaver and you keep all body hair at bay. Shaving underarms are a lot better with this versus the 2020 by a long shot and the added length from having the electric trimmer = better reach for hard to reach areas. I have only charged this item 2x in the last 5 days which was amazing compared to the 2020 which after a shaving session, I would have to charge daily. Buy this bodygroom and I highly recommend setting up with the Subscription of replacement blades at least every 6 months but more like every 4 months if you are using frequently because the blades do wear out fast. No cons so far, this seems to be better built then the 2020 *my second one split, the rubber button split from body*.. I never used the combs with that but it used to be water resistant but with the new one, I do not see this happening as it seems more solid. Considering I have been shaving my body for well over 4 years now, it used to be a pain to do but with this and the mangroomer = I really don't need anyone to do any shaving for me now. Well worth it to me.

Good Shaver, bad charge/charger
I've had this shaver for about a year now. For the most part it works well. The adjustable clipper works without nicking, and has a good selection of trim lengths. But the plastic adjuster/blade guard is a bit flimsy and will break if mishandled. Also, it could get lost easily. The body shaver side does cut very close to the skin, also without nicking, and has a dual sided fine trimmer as well to knock down the hairs. Also, I find the handle design is good and long, allowing me to reach all sections of my back, with a little stretch. I don't need a second device to reach my back. Of course, you probably figured out by now that this is NOT a face trimmer, so disregard any reviews that knock off points for not shaving your beard well enough. So, insofar as a shaver/trimmer/clipper for body hair, this thing works great! Now for the bad: The charge is terrible. I wish I could use it with a cord, but, it only works cordless. I can hardly trim my entire chest without the charge depleting. I'm not THAT hairy of a guy either. It lasts 10 minutes at the most (from the very first day I used it). I would expect something of this size (it is not small, measuring 7.5" long) to last at least 20 minutes like my sideburn/beard trimmer, which is 1/3 the size. And the charging cradle, though it looks nice, is not well balanced, only holds the trimmer when on a flat surface and cannot be mounted on a wall. It needlessly folds, but really doesn't save any space by doing so, and you cannot connect the trimmer to the charger alone, you must use the stand. So, if you travel, that's three things to take (trimmer/charger/stand) because you can't charge it and take it with you, you will not get through but one trimming session at best. For $50 here on Amazon with free shipping, it was cheaper than my local store. But if you want something with a longer charge, or that can be used with the cord when the charge is depleted, look elsewhere. EDIT: I’ve had it ten years now. I’ve changed the batteries twice, once just a year in, and then a good four years later. It is not something most people can do, and requires a solder gun, a razor and a bit of careful prying. It took me about 45 minutes to swap out the batteries with a much better brand. So, for me, it’s been a pretty good deal. But for anyone who doesn’t have the experience to tear this very well sealed device open, not a good purchase. Take a look on the iFixit site to learn how to swap in new batteries.

Easy to use! Outstanding Results! Winner!!
This is most definitely the best Bodygrooming device that I have used. Very easy to use, well constructed body shaver at a fairly reasonable price. I have given the Norelco Bodygroom 2040 a Five star rating based upon the results I have achieved through a few occasions of use. Painless trimming or shaving. I think most of the negative feedback regarding this product revolves around the life of the battery. But, some people might expect electronics to last far longer, and assume this will be the last body shaver they purchase in their lifetime. I will be happy if I get about 2 years of life out of this product...if that happens, then this shaver will have far exceeded my expectations. I tend to believe that if you follow cleaning , maintenance, and charging instructions, that electronics usually hold up fairly well over time. Another gripe that I've seen on the reviews for this product are in reference to the ineffectiveness of the trimmer features of the unit. I thought the trimmer worked most excellent, but I would advise taking the time to trim longer body hair with scissors before using the trimmer on this shaver. It will operate better, and pregrooming will reduce hair from pulling or tugging, or clogging the blade. Personally, the only flaw I could point to with this product are with the cleaning instructions being a bit vague about how to remove foil shaver in order to clean the unit. The picture is accurate, in the portrayal of the motion necessary to remove foil shaver, but a bit more direction in regards to this would be helpful. A 15 sec video? All I am saying, is that I could easily see someone unintentionally damaging foil head because the directions are not very clear. Overall, this shaver is well worth the money spent. Saved considerable amount of time grooming, and offers outstanding pain free shaving results. I have sensitive skin...and no red bumps from the use of this shaver. I definitely recommend this product.

I'm a guy who doesn't like shaving my "nether" regions
Ordered this under my wife's acct name, but I assure you I'm a guy who has been using this thing. So let me set the back story a little bit leading up to this purchase. I'm a guy who doesn't like shaving my "nether" regions, but I'm married to a woman who wants my "nether" regions shaved. I had been using a really basic trimmer to get the job done... you know one of those cheapo pharmacy neck/beard trimmers. Well, I only ever ended up shaving down there about 2 - 3 times a year max, much to my wife's disappointment. There were many reasons I chose to shave down there as little as possible. First and foremost, I liked to call the times I would shave "There Will Be Blood", after the popular movie. No matter what, I would end up nicking myself somewhere in a region where you particularly don't ever want to see blood, this was terrifying. In fact, I typically tended to NOT use the trimmers on my scrotum and just try to cut those uglies with a pair of scissors. This took a long time and didn't really eliminate the hairs, just made them a tad shorter. The taint never really ended up hairless either. Another problem with the old trimmers is that they would get incredibly hot and the metal would burn my skin. I guess to look on the bright side, now I could cauterize the open wounds the trimmers had originally caused. Needless to say it was all a horrible experience and I ended up having hair more often and in more places than my wife wished. My brother, whom I assumed was having the same types of problems, did quite a bit of searching and reviewing for a good body hair trimmer. He ended up finding this product and decided to purchase it. Fast forward 3 months. I asked my brother how his new body trimmer had been working and he said it was great... no nicks, no problems, no hairs (yes he showed me, and I have to say it was quite handsome). So I straightway purchased this amazing device on Amazon and have been very pleased. I was able to shave my entire "nether" regions with ease. I'll have to admit I was very cautious and scared to shave my scrotum (I'd never properly done it before without problems), but I was able to glide over those bad boys with ease, no pain, no nicks, no hair! Also, the trimmer did not heat up after extended use, so it was comfortable on my skin the entire time. I felt like a new man. I'm happy and most importantly the wife is too!

Decent trimmer, terrible shaver. Sorely disappointed. (Literally!)
If you're reading this, you're probably as excited about this product as I was, after reading all the glowing reviews of it. Unfortunately, I ignored the negative reviews, and now I wish I hadn't. Oh, let me tell you the ways that this product has disappointed me: -Numero uno: The GIANT gash in an incredibly sensitive area on my body, courtesy of using the shaving end. Who ARE these other reviewers who say that it's impossible to cut yourself with this product?! I was very, very careful with how I used the groomer. I went very slowly, followed the instructions, and did all the necessary prep. Even before I cut myself, I felt very uneasy having this groomer down there, and you might feel that way, too. My instincts told me that it was a bad idea to have something sharp, electric, and buzzing near my nads, and I should've listened, because my instincts were right. i figure that if I'm gay, and even I am unable to use a grooming product successfully, then there's no hope for all the straight guys out there, and the product's gotta be flawed. Plus, a nick or two I can understand, but seriously, my wound is definitely full-on gash status, people. Ouch. (And in case you're curious, I tried the shaver both wet and dry. Gash was courtesy of the wet shave, and I pinched and nicked myself a couple times when using it dry. I didn't notice much of a difference between the two styles. I was lucky I didn't cut myself with it dry, too.) -Two: The inefficiency of the shaver. Let me recreate for you what happened most of the time I used the shaver, when I wasn't busy getting a giant cut: 1) I see a couple of short hairs, all on their lonesome, begging to be shaved. 2) I try shaving the area. 3) Nothing happens. Hairs remain standing. 4) I try a different angle. 5) Nothing happens. 6) I try a different angle again. 7) Nothing happens. 8) I try the last possible angle available to me, short of bending the space-time continuum. 9) Nothing happens. The hairs are STILL there. 10) I sigh and give up. So let me get this straight: When I use this shaver, either it cuts so close that it makes a crater in my skin, or it's so far off that in FOUR different attempts it can't even shave two little hairs that a normal razor could easily pick off? So wait, what's the point of this thing? -Three: The trimmer is decent, but could be better. As opposed to the completely useless shaver, the trimmer did have some value. I was able to trim a lot of areas on my chest, back, and no-no zone that needed some tending. And it wasn't too much of a hassle. But I found, particularly in my groin area, that the trimmer didn't always work. There are some odd angles down there that make it hard to bring the trimmer across the skin. This isn't entirely the body groomer's fault, obviously, but I figure if the thing's job is to trim body hair (and we all know what specific region of body hair that most buyers are interested in trimming), then it better be designed in such a way as to make that a little simpler. It seems to me, though, that the trimmer head is a little too wide to be able to line up properly with areas in the groin. There's not always a lot of surface area to work with, and the designers of the product should have accommodated that circumstance better. -Four: Price. Enough said. I'd really encourage you to think about what you want from this product before buying it. If you're interested primarily in trimming hair outside of the groin, then fantastic! This is a great product for that. If you want to trim body hair and groin hair, then this is a decent product, but know that it can get a little tricky when it comes to trimming groin hair. If you want to shave close and be bare in all your unholiest places, then I think you'll be disappointed with this product. I've had more success with disposable single blade razors for sensitive skin that I bought from CVS. Yes, it takes longer than a fancy and chic electric razor (I know, I was hoping to avoid the wet shave with this groomer, too, you know), but it'll get the job done, you'll save some money, and you probably won't end up with a band-aid on your balls. Thanks for reading.

Excelente producto

Philips Norelco Bg2040 Body Groom Pro Beard Trimmer
I have been using this product from Aug 2018. It is a reliable product so far with great battery back up( I use it once a week for about 15 to 20 minutes and a single full charge comes for nearly 6 weeks). The precision of hair cut is decent and it is easy to operate on. I chose this product compared to other Philips grooming device because of in built battery associated with the product compared to latest Philips model which comes with external AA batteries. This product come with a unique design of charger which is foldable. This is very useful when you travel and it just sleeks in a travel pouch.
