My dad always used an electric shaver, I think that was the status symbol of the 50's 60's & 70's... I tried one but never really liked and really feel that they are not worth the exorbitant amount of money charged for a small electric device that has not changed in basic design since the 1950's. My mother actually used a Safety razor to shave her legs and that is the only experience I had with one, seeing it on the vanity as a kid but never using one. When not using the electric razor (i.e. most of my life) I used the common disposable plastic multi-blade razors or the more expensive refillable variety. I always had a huge issue with the clogging of these little cheap devices and with the ridiculous price charged for either ($36 for 5 refill blades? really?) . I also felt that they would dull to unusable condition within 4 or five shaves. So I decided to go Back to the Future to try a safety razor with single blades. I first tried a cheap one that I found at a Dollar Tree Store, figured that for $1.25 I would get a shave and see if I liked how it performed. I did like it (Mainly because it did not clog up like the cheap plastic variety of disposable multi-blade razors. I did not like how the head opened as it was inconvenient to clean or change blades (But for a buck, what did I expect - right?) Searching Amazon, I found this WEISHI Safety Razor Double Edge Nostalgic Long Handle Butterfly Open Razor on sale for about $12 and then found a 100 pack of blades for like $7 in effect giving me a razor and the ability to shave for over 2 years for $20 bucks. Compare that to your Drugstore razor isle! I am very impressed with the quality of my purchase. The butterfly functions easily and reliably which make loading a new blade or cleaning up after a shave a breeze. (Something you can hardly do without a firehose of pressure on multi blade disposables. Actually shaving is just what you think it should be. Simply use the weight of this safety razor and glide it down your skin or up your neck. I have yet to get a cut or a nick and the actual shaves are much closer than any multi blade disposable I have ever used. The term "Like a baby's bottom" comes to mind... So if you are here reading this long review about a simple age old device, first patented by Gillett in 1904, just buy one and try it. It's worth $20 to see if you can tons of money and end up with a better shave than you are used to. I also do not believe there to spending much more than what I did for this WEISHI Safety Razor Double Edge Nostalgic Long Handle Butterfly Open Razor, there is no need to even look at the $60 versions as I cannot imagine that they work any better than the WEISHI.

This razor is certainly very well built. It has a nice heft to its weight. The open/close mechanism feels very secure. I have had this product about three months and never experienced it getting lose during my shaves. The blades sit very well aligned. The handle is also very grippy. I had no issues of it sliding around with a wet handle or wet hands. And best of all, it is very easy to keep clean. A simple unused toothbrush once in a while will clean it from soap residue. The most exciting part of owning this safety razor is the amount of money you will save for the duration of the products lifetime. I have been shaving for about a decade and used only cartridge razors. I have a thick facial hair that grows fairly quickly. I could easily spend $100 a year on cartridge refills alone. Spending so much money already, I usually bought the very cheap tin can shaving foam. With this safety razor, a pack of 100 blades will have me spend $10 a year. That allows me to buy much higher quality shaving soaps and products which adds to the overall quality of my shaves. I have always had very sensitive skin. Razor burn, razor bumps and ingrown hairs; all sorts of skin irritation. No matter what I did, my face and skin would be very unsightly the next day. I accepted that it was a fact of life to always have my face sliced up and butchered. I hated shaving so much. When I first learned of a safety razor, I jumped right in and gave this a shot. I will admit, don’t be surprised that on your first several shaves, you may get more cuts and Nicks. With time, practice and new techniques, you’ll get better and reduce the amount of cuts. Some shaves you’ll have no cut skin at all. It took me weeks upon weeks to allow my skin to heal properly from using cartridge razors. Now, I can get a very close shave while reducing skin irritation significantly. I shave across the grain, which works for me to be as close as possible while also being semi mild on my skin. The biggest selling point about safety razors was the environmental impact. I am a huge environmentalist and the significant reduction on plastic use does wonders for the environment. The handle is all metal and the razor blades is all metal. There is no plastic that will sit in landfills or float in the ocean disrupting the ecosystem. There are so many benefits in using a safety razor. Low cost, high quality, Eco friendly. Take your time, allow the weight of the razor do the work, watch the countless tutorials on YouTube to get the best possible shave. With time and practice, you may even start to enjoy shaving. I highly recommend using a safety razor for those with sensitive skin.

This is a very good razor. If you are concerned about durability, as I write this review it is October 2025. I actually bought this razor in July of 2016. I have kept it in my shower most of this time. This razor, just broke after over 9 years. For what I paid, I couldn't be more impressed. I would have sworn that I have only had it a few years but time flies. So why is my review 4 stars instead of 5? Well I bought a replacement razor that was twice the price as this one. The shave quality of the more expensive razor is night and day different than this razor. I have used Astra Platinum blades for probably 15 years now. With the same exact blade in the new razor, it doesn't even feel like I am shaving. It's crazy. By comparison, this WEISHI razor is far less smooth with the same blades. I never really had an issue with it before, it's just that I never knew what I was missing. For the money, it is going to be very hard to find a butterfly open razor that will last you nearly 10 years. If you have the money to spend on a more expensive razor and you are curious if that will equate to a better shave, it very well could. I assumed a razor is a razor, I owned a Lord brand before this that was super basic but wanted a Butterfly after I cut my finger changing a blade with the Lord. I didn't notice a difference in shave quality going from the Lord to the WEISHI. However from the WEISHI to the Viking, it's night and day.

This has been a great first double edge safety razor. I did a lot of reading and comparisons to more expensive stuff but I wasn't ready to spend $20-30 until I knew that DE safety razor shaving was something I wanted to stick with. I used an electric razor for almost 10 years and instead of buying another replacement head for $30 I got this razor, a brush, and soap for $20 and couldn't be happier. I always just viewed using my electric razor and "getting the job done" and just wanted to do it quickly and be done. It worked okay but not a very close shave and I would get ingrown hairs pretty often. I should've switched sooner but I hated cartridge razors and they were very expensive, when I found out about safety razors I had to try it. This is a GREAT value to try out DE shaving. It's made very well and when paired with a quality blade you get a great shave. The case it comes with is nice and convenient as well. It comes with 5 Dorco blades which have a decent reputation. Everyone has different hair types so you have to find what works best for you. I have very coarse hair so these aren't quite right for me, they work but I ordered a sampler of sharper blades that should work better at cutting my thick beard hair. If you want to get started with DE shaving for cheap, but don't want to sacrifice quality then just buy this! You may end up wanting to try some nicer razors later on but honestly this would last you a lifetime. It's essentially a copy of the vintage Gillette Super Speed razors, and people to this day still buy those on ebay to use as they are such a timeless design that works so well. I have no doubt that if taken care of this razor will outlast my lifetime. For $10 what more could you ask for?!

I purchased this razor after reading some of the other reviews, some great, some not so great. I already have a Lord L6 and like many others enjoy DE shaving because it is cost effective and more interesting than disposables or electrics. I have a couple of blade sampler packs and enjoy trying out different blades. I had relatively low expectations from the Weishi given some of the reviews saying it was not very aggressive. I like the idea of a TTO razor and wanted to try one out. We all know we can go out there and buy a decent DE razor in the $30.00 and up category. I like to think buying DE razors is like buying wine. Anyone can buy a decent bottle of wine for $30.00, getting a decent bottle of wine for $12.00 is a bit more difficult. So is the Weishi a decent DE razor for about $12.00? I think it is. The example I received in gleaming chrome finish seemed close to flawless and the TTO mechanism worked well. Yes it rattles a bit. In this sub $15.00 price range I would not expect anything to be built army tough and survive any abuse. It wouldn’t, and neither would my Lord L6. If you tap these razors or drop them on hard surfaces, or crank the handles or twist mechanisms down hard you will very quickly find out that these are simply extended life disposables. It is early days yet but it looks to me like the Weishi will last a while if treated reasonably gently. How does it shave? I expected a very very mild (non aggressive) shave from this razor based on the other reviews but discovered that if you find the razors sweet spot, which I found easy to do, it shaved very well. Much better than expected and perhaps even better than the Lord L6 which I find quite mild. I loaded a Lord Stainless blade in the Weishi because the other reviewers pretty much universally condemned the Dorco blades that come with it. I found the razor to feel light, it feels lighter than the Lord L6 which has a hefty head, but certainly can be used without applying any significant pressure. The handle is short, but I get finer control over the blade angle with DE shaving by holding the handle closer to the head anyway. The handle provides a good grip. A longer handle might be nice but is not critical. On the other hand the razor is compact and comes with a nice easy to pack and compact case. Overall I like the form factor. Obviously your mileage may vary but for a razor in the sub $15.00 price range I found the Weishi very acceptable and good value. I got a smooth shave on both my face and my head, no nicks. So far I am very happy with the purchase. At some point I will buy a $30.00 and up DE razor. Obviously my expectations will double commensurate with the price. I struggled on the rating for this since the razor itself seems very nice, but the included blades are not. Luckily I have a good support network around me or else people would think I was starting cutting and in need of some help after using one of these blades. The razor has a nice weight to it, much heavier than your standard cartridge style razor for those making the transition. Nicely balanced overall and a pretty clean finish to it. The gun metal color and finish are much nicer than the flashy chrome on some razors. I have no idea why someone needs something that looks like a piece of bling to scrape whispers off their face. The butterfly open/close mechanism is solid. No idea about the folks who had issues, maybe they have trouble opening pickle jars as well. But those razor blades. Wow are they bad. It appears you have two choices of how to apply the blade to face and shave with them, the first one resembles something along the lines of that 7th blade on the SNL 10 blade razor add, not even sure that it comes close to anything, and then the second approach. Somehow the blade manages to cut my face and leave the other areas stinging while leaving most of the razor stubble in place. Maybe it's the razor opening, maybe it's the blades and this razor, not sure since it's my first try. Suffice it to say I can get a closer shave bullying my three month old 4 blade cartridge across my face with less irritation and less time than with one of these blades fresh out of the package. Somewhere I read several times that shaving with a DE razor isn't about saving money, etc. Well, I can't find any reason to go back 100 years in innovation based on the quality of these blades. I have some others I plan on trying soon, so maybe that will help, but so far the experiment after a week of shaves is not going well. But, sorry, anyone who looks forward to shaving have to be a masochist, and using these blades just confirms that. Buy, the razor if you must, but throw the blades away the moment they arrive. And, from what I can tell I might be able to get 5 unsatisfactory shaves from one of these blades before they are simply a weapon against my face. If that's how this works out for other blades, it will be much cheaper sticking with the $4 cartridges, but I'll also have to factor in the extra cost for the leeches so I can keep up my blood letting.

I have been using this razor plus a 100 pack of Feather blades now for a decade at least and this setup will probably last me another decade. Total spent, about $45! Anyone still buying disposable or cartridge razors is a fool.

I am a few shaves in with this razor (using the included YingJiLi blades), and it has been transformative. Highly favorable first impression. The razor is decently heavy in hand, and the mechanism to open/close the head of the razor seems to operate without any defect, locking the blade tightly into position. It’s a good looking razor, in my opinion. I have big hands, so I thought the long handle would be the way to go, but in practice I don’t really think it matters much. The razor came well packaged in a box with a small packet of 5 DE blades which were each individually double-wrapped in a paper envelope. I have no complaints about any of it, and would recommend this to anybody that wants a clean, close, shave. If you have any facial hair (moustache, beard, chinstrap, etc.) this razor works really well to cut a nice sharp/straight line when grooming. Obviously, this single edge is easier to control than the sloppy cartridges. For less than the price of one small refill packet of cartridge razors, you can have this razor and save tons of money by buying DE blades. Even “expensive” blades are only twenty-something dollars for 100 blades, with most brands being half that cost. That will likely get most folks through at least a year, I’d bet. I’ve ordered different blades to try, as it is widely accepted that a blade that is liked by one person may not be suitable for another. The included blades with this razor are generally not very well-liked, so I’m hoping that with different blades that this whole experience will become even better. Haha, I couldn’t seem to stop writing so, fair warning, SUPER LONG story/ continuation of review below: I started shaving with an electric foil razor as a teen. Quickly decided that it was worthless, and switched to single blade disposables. (In retrospect, those were probably the best razors I have used, until now.) As I got older, I followed the 2, then 3, then 4… 5… etc. cartridge blade progression. I’ve tried all of it, different electrics. All of it. I’ve always hated shaving. I have a very full, coarse beard, but very sensitive skin. Obviously that is not an appealing combination for a person that needs to shave every day. I’ve tried every different trick and potion and lotion and whatever else, but my neck always looked like (and felt like) it had been attacked by a cheese grater. This led to not shaving every day, which led to ingrown hairs. It was a vicious cycle. I eventually went to using a set of electric hair trimmers and sporting the 5 o’clock shadow look. It kept my skin from being irritated, but it wasn’t as nice as a clean close shave. A couple of weeks ago, I was talking to my father and he mentioned off-hand that he had bought himself a new safety razor. He commented that he had forgotten how great they were. (I remembered his razors and soaps and everything from when I was a kid. I had loved it all.) For some reason, this conversation rattled around in my head for about a week when I decided to pick myself up a razor. Of all the hair-removal things I have endured over the years, I cannot explain why I’ve never tried a simple safety razor. After three decades of shaving, I finally have one. In researching razors, I kept seeing Weishi as the manufacturer of this, that, and the other brand of safety razors. It seems like just about any twist-to-open razor under twenty dollars is probably made by them. Reviews made by reasonable people all seemed favorable enough. I currently have a beard (winter tradition. For the rest of the year, I have a moustache/goatee), but I do shave my neck and groom my cheeks above the beard. My routine: -Hot shower, scrub skin thoroughly with soap. -Pat neck with towel, but don’t dry completely. -Apply pre-shave oil (I use Shave Secret. Wlmrt has it for about a third of the price of what it is sold for on Amazon, FYI) -Load shaving brush with hot water and build lather with shaving cream (I’m using Proraso green shaving cream). -Work my stubble up with the brush/soap. -Smooth, straight strokes with the razor, rinsing blade with every stroke. -Cold water rinse on skin when done. -Splash of witch hazel on skin. -Touch of styptic pencil to slight knick on my throat (Clubman styptic, again much cheaper at Wlmrt than on Amazon.) -Splash of aftershave (Pinaud Clubman, it takes me back to being a kid at a legit old-man barbershop. Delightful!) -Head out to conquer the world. {Side note: If you are able to enjoy a nice glass of bourbon while you are doing this, it really adds a certain flair. If you’re not a bourbon drinker, try a cup of coffee with a bit of the Irish in it. Maybe have your favorite music playing in the background, too. Have your boxers and a fresh undershirt warming up in the dryer to put on when you’re finished. Jazz up an otherwise dreary task. I assure you that you will feel like a million bucks when you’re done. It’s an affordable luxury!} So, after all of this blathering-on what’s my bottom line? I can shave again with a razor. I‘ve shaved multiple days in a row for the first time in… more years than I can remember. I’ve got a few slightly red areas on my neck, but they don’t hurt/aren’t irritated, and it is likely due to my current inexperience/technique. Shaving over those spots the next day gives me no discomfort, whereas the irritation from cartridge razors would not permit shaving the next day without an extreme amount of blood-letting and pain.

I don't know how a $100 razor could be that much better than this one at $20. I am 65 years old and got tired of paying the high prices of the cartridge razors and using disposable razors. I thought it was would give it a shot based on the savings on the replacement blades. These blades don't last as long as the multi blade cartridge razors but they're cheap. You need proper shaving cream to use one of these also I discovered after a few bouts of mild razor burn. It does take some getting used to but after you get onto it it works very well.
