Ideal 33-864 TONE GENERATOR & AMPLIFIER PROBE KIT

My older unit just didn't do a very good job at toning out wires. I don't know if it was just older technology or what, but the IDEAL unit works very well. This model is more up to date, more power and even does RG6 tracing as well as CAT3(phone) The only thing that I don't like about this is the storage bag. It isn't wide enough to allow the sender and receiver to go in side-by-side. You have to fumble around to get everything in correctly so it can be zipped up. One doesn't have the time to do this every you use the device. Bag needs to be compartmentalized and 1/2 inch wider.

Only needed the probe (receiver) to work with IDEAL 33-856 VDV MultiMedia Cable Tester that I already owned. For some bizarre reason I could buy this kit for much cheaper than I could buy just the probe, oh well. Works great and am very satisfied with this unit.

I had the original basic toner by ideal. It got stolen, kind of blessing in disguise. I am still getting used to it, but loving the fact that no cables are permanently coming out of the toner, I have inputs to plug the wire in. That was the trouble with the original one; I had to buy a coupler to tone out cat3 or cat5 cables. Now I can plug it directly into the toner, and on top of that it has rf jack. Again, I had to use a cut coax cable and have one end terminated and the other end strip down so I can plug my clips on it to get a tone. I really like the newer toner, but it is some getting use to. Im not digging the pouch it came with. Not sure if its manufacturing defect, but when you put the toner inside, there is no room for the probe. You have to squish, compact the two within the pouch. The wires go on the bottom, and the square size toner goes above it or vice versa, but then the probe doesn't fit comfortable within it, or even to the side.

This is really the best toner I've ever used. I've never been a fan of the Fluke toners, but I used one for a long time. This Ideal toner is easier to use and produces a much clearer tone than the Fluke toners do.

I’m outside the return window but didn’t need to use it until today. Right out of the package it didn’t work. It was definitely previously used as the package was opened and resealed and batteries were already in the device. I owned the same set before and it is not working the way it should. Open and test as soon as it is received don’t be like me.

Works great, descent price. I like that you can unplug the wires & it has a coax connection. It would have been nice if it was rj45 instead of rj11.

Why is there no bed of nails on the alligator clips? Do you have any idea what a pain it is to have to strip everything before we can tone it? It also mentioned several different tones; there is a difference between several and one.

The contents of the received package did not match what was pictured. There was no alligator clips supplied, but instead, mysteriously, there was an RJ-45 flat short cable. I say mysteriously because the connector on the tone generator is RJ-11, so there is no way to connect this cable and no point in doing so. My application is tracing CAT-6 cables, which is possible if you have an RJ-11 to RJ-45 coupler, so the product is not a waste for me. But I do find it strange such a useless item would be substituted. On bit of good news was that the coupler has a convenient hook which makes up for the missing hook on the tone generator others have complained about. But if I used the alligator clips (which I'd have to buy myself) once again I wouldn't have a hook. But that's not my application fortunately.

Slim and easy to fit into cluttered areas. The generator is strong enought to hear through speakers. Both probe and generator work very well and the price is good.
