Chapin 4710 1-Gallon HydroFeed in-Line Fertilizing Injection System for Sprinklers and Direct Hose Use, 1-Pack, Translucent White

So this is my first review, I WILL UPDATE over time especially if this fails. I had to return the first one that was sent by Amazon because clearly it was used, had ptfe tape and stripped threads. So my water pressure is 100psi going into the irrigation. This is wayyyyyy too much for this device. Yes it will leak EVERYWHERE! I am currently running it at 77psi using a zurn pressure regulator seems ok but it's probably passing the limits of the device. I do need the pressure though because there are just too many sprinklers on the lines. I mainly wanted this for 2 of my 3 stations which the lower pressure will reach. I have a bypass valve on there with a check valve, when I want to use it I will simply turn the valve off and on them switch it back. I have a bhyve app to control my irrigation, so I'll run it manually. I have no way of checking to see how accurate this will do the mic, but I can tell you when running it and you turn the knob you will see an increase in flow in the small tubing. Few cautions with this.... The threads are plastic. If you are going to be connecting this to an irrigation system make sure you know what you are doing. If you put the wrong threading on this you will mess up the threads. And you will get leaks everywhere. When screwing the cap back on don't just let it sit as you're screwing. Once you have the black part back on mostly lift it up and then screw with it in the up position so it can sit properly otherwise it will leak there.. This is using standard garden hose thread (mht and fth). This will limit the water pressure if you need higher pressure. Lower pressure you should be fine. I am using a 3/4 pvc pipe from my mains, to a regulator into a pvc ftp to 3/4" hose barb to a mht then to the device using Teflon tape and a hose gasket.... I'm going out of the device I'm pretty much doing the same thing. I also feel like this will probably handle more pressure and last longer than a regular hose, because of the gaskets they use. On the other side of the wall which is not pictured I have a regular hose bib so I can connect and fill up my watering can. This is another thing you can do. I also installed another hose bib in the back where the main line connects for the same reason. if you plan on just connecting this to your house and using it I feel it would be too excessive but obviously everybody has their own reasons. I wouldn't connect it directly to a hose bib. I would use a hose and make sure that it is seated correctly without any pressure on the connections... The only flaw of this device is the device is pretty much plastic. And they don't make it so you can connect it to an irrigation system easy. This is easily connected to a hose bib which is probably the worst way to connect this. They should have made this device with MIP threading and I'm just included a FPT to hose bib connection piece for those who would like to use it on a hose bib. I hope this helps anybody that buys this for the same reason I did. fertilization is very important especially if you grow fruits and grow flowers. I did want to use this to also lower the pH of my soil. I can use some hydroponic stuff or I'm sure there's other methods of doing it. But that was the other reason behind this. But otherwise I could just do it manually for now. Update 9.15.2020 The connection from the main line in started dripping because I barley hit it with a trash can. I couldn't get it to stop so I disconnected it. I placed a new gasket on it and used zip ties to really tighten it when as well as not letting the plastic slide off from it being tight. This seemed to resolve it. Also if using miracle grow, mix it. I filled the tank half way dumped the blue stuff in there and mixed it with a few oz. I also threw in some other stuff. To relieve issue when I'm done I purge the valve on the bottom for a quick second. Otherwise still good 4.20.25 Yes 5 years later. Been using it 3 times a year. So it did develop a leak at the top. Chapin replaced it. Still developed a leak at the top. I am at 77psi. So here's is my work around to this. I put my liquid fertilizer or pack of miracle grow. Tighten it up and turn the water on. It'll mix. Right before it reaches the top I turn the irrigation in for a full minute each station. I have it at the highest setting. At 30 seconds I switch to the next station until I'm done. Then I repeat the process till most the fertilizer is gone. However I'll increase the time to a minute and so forth. If you let it get to the top it will leak. Then I have it in the top tub for this reason. Hope someone finds this useful

I use the inline fertigator with a timer and drip lines. Worked great for my needs. I keep it covered away from direct sun (it is plastic after all). Was very easy to use. I was fertilizing my plants once a week and they did very well. I did not have an issue with the adjustment knob. I saw a couple of comments about not knowing exactly how much fertilizer solution (from tank) was mixed with irrigation water. Could that be done? Probably yes. Was I interested in knowing? Definitely no. If you think that one scoop of dry fertilizer in the gallon is not enough or too much, adjust next time. The mix I was using produces a pink color in solution. After I irrigate my plants once for 60 min, solution turn clear (so fertilizer was used). Happy with the purchase. 1 year update: The tank started leaking bad this season. It seems like the leak is coming from the seam. The tank shell is made of two halves with a seam in between, and that's where the problem is. I am not sure how much of the fertilizer is making it to the plants. Very unhappy with the low quality. I took out 3 stars from my initial review. Tried to seal with 2 part epoxy and that didn't seem to help. Tried again to salvage the tank. The leak did not seem to be due to tank cracking, but the rubber seal not doing its job. I bought a few different sizes of rubber o-ring material, cut it to length and super glue it. That made a nice O-ring, but the unit still leaks. Frustrating to waste that much money for a unit that should contain water but does not because of poor workmanship. This product should be taken off market. Kept one star, yet wished I can give it -5. Garbage, will not trust that brand ever again.

It worked quite well in delivering the fertilizer to the irrigation, but then developed a crack and as a result leaked. Customer service resolved it right away. Now up and running no prob. I suggest isolating it from your main irrigation line with a diverter and valves - only allow water flow through it when you want to fertilizer. Will likely extend the life.

At first it worked great. bought it on April of 2019 aka this year an used it at the beginning of every month. had a valve on it so it was not always hooked up to the sprinklers. for the last 3 months every time i go to use it. it leaks from the top gasket. that gets resealed multi times. so i did a water pressure test the water is running at 35 psi. then today when i decided to remove it all together the two black nipples on the main attachment. broke off. barely pulled on it enough to break it. this is poorly made. very disappointed in this product another company that had no pride in there product.... SMH

very solid construction, only wish yhat the flow mix mechanism would have a bypass switch so that it could work without doing any mixing. Currently it does not have that option.

This item works great! When I first installed it leaked like mad; then I realized that my water pressure was very high. I used a water pressure reduction fitting, and that did the trick. This thing is a game changer.

The adjustment knob is supposed to allow you to deliver 1-10 ounces of product from the tank per gallon of water flow. At setting 4 it delivered 1.4 oz/gal. It didn't deliver any product at other settings. At settings 1-3 the flow progressively decreases. At setting 4 delivers 6.2 gallons in 51 seconds. At setting 1 it delivered 6.2 gallons in 2 minutes. Not enough water flow to get any significant coverage with the sprinkler. At settings 1-3 there is no suction on the take up hose in the tank. Rather, the take up hose delivers water into the tank. On second day I tried it there was no suction at any setting. My well delivers 9 gal/min at 50 psi with the sprinkler running. Tech support said they test it at 2-4 gal/minute. I put a shutoff in the line to reduce the flow to 2-4 gal/minute. There was no uptake from the tank at any setting. There is an uptake tube between the tank and module that goes in the hose/sprinkler line. There is also a return hose from the module back into the tank, that fills the tank and dilutes the product in the tank immediately. I can't believe this unit, even if working correctly, provides a constant oz/gallon, since the product is increasingly diluted as the unit runs. I really need a unit like this so returned it and ordered a replacement. The replacement arrived promptly (Thank You!). I tested it using a flow rate meter on a railbird sprinkler with a max diameter of ~50 feet. At settings 1 thru 4, the flow rates were 3.5, 5.6, 6.2, and 6.5 gal/min. The red control knob mostly changes the outflow stream, while the inflow changes much less. The tank fills with water, so the product is diluted from concentrate during delivery. I recommend using this with a large diameter hose, on a sprinkler with minimal moving parts, and running at setting 4 which nominally delivers 1-2 oz/gal (confirmed this). This will give max coverage. Hoses and lid must be firmly attached and closed. I believe this system works by forcing water into the tank which pushes the contents out into the water stream, not by venturi principal by which other typical lawn sprayers work. Since there is still product left (although diluted) I would leave it on the sprinkler and run for an additional 20 min to water the lawn. Will keep and use this one. It would be better if the tank were pressurized to force liquid out, rather than diluting the concentrate.

I purchased two of these one year ago and have had problems from the start. Upon receipt I found one of the plastic parts that connect to the feeder was broken. A call to the company resolved the issue and they were quick to send a replacement but I should have known at this point my initial experience would be indicative of what I’d see in the future. We are now one year into ownership and BOTH tanks have cracked and the product is 100% useless. I live in sunny California, drained the tanks prior to the winter months, and would own the issue had I left water in them that caused cracking due to a freeze. However, it doesn’t get cold enough in my area for a hard freeze to occur and as mentioned, I drained the tanks and left the drain open. If you have hundreds to throw at something annually this is a good option but if you value your money look for a better product.

Poor seals as this product start to leak at very first month, I was doing house renovation didn’t have time and forgot to start a return

This is my 2nd one and both of them start leaking at the top after 2 week so I'm going also send this 1 back and try a different type of fertilizer injector.not wroth the headache

Starts leaking in a couple minutes from the o-ring. Doesn't matter how tight you make the lid. Bad design. Also doesn't inject fertilizer at all when using drip irrigation or soaker hoses, only good for high flow sprinklers. The previous Chapin fertilizer injector I had worked well, but the jar shattered in less than a year randomly one day, and the brass drain valve corroded quickly from the fertilizer (I had just replaced it with a plastic one). It can't be that hard to build one of these in a factory can it?
