InFocus IN116 Portable DLP Projector, 3D ready, WXGA, 2700 Lumens

I cautiously purchased this item due to the lack of product reviews and low price despite it having the same specs as higher end projectors. I have now had it for a month and I could not be happier. The picture is equal to that of my Vizio 42" HDTV and I have it on a 100" screen. As of right now, I am very happy that I went with this low price alternative to the high priced HD Projectors, if anything changes I will revise my review. If you are on a budget or not on a budget, this is an amazing deal either way and a good way to save some cash.

I purchased this 6 months ago. It has been on well more than 50% of the time since purchase. In fact i rarely turn it off. The bulb is still working. I got a 8'x4' sheet of styro-foam. Painted one side eggshell brilliant white and the other side a darker eggshell silver. I use the darker silver side for better contrast in a near blacked out room. black duct tape around the edges. I watch this on ~100' diagonal screen sitting 10 feet in front of it. To me It has become my primary mode of watching TV. I may have another LCD monitor in my life.. but i will NOT go without a projector. It seems to have more than one fan, you can hear it if you listen for it, but it fades into nothing if your distracted elsewhere, like watching tv. It does produce heat, but no fires yet. I have 2 different computers feeding it.. and it still has another input at least (d connector) It might have other type inputs too but I only use this with the computers. I take this and a video source laptop with me when i travel also. All you need is a dark room and a blank wall. One of the best things about this projector is the replacement bulb costs only 85 dollars. I have seen some projector bulbs cost upwards of $600 dollars. In fact when i originally shopped for this projector, I shopped replacement bulb prices as much as projector features. If you get right up on the screen 4 foot x 8 foot .. you can see tiny squares.. the pixels.. but if i'm back from the screen a bit.. i see nothing but a nice picture.. i was very pleasantly surprised at the screen quality. Still if it's THIS good... what's a 1080P like???? I have been on the look out for one of those on the cheap. THis projector has 2700 lumens. This is a number i will probably never go below. (i only watch it in 2200 economy mode). I CAN watch it in semi lit rooms.. but it washes out all the darks. kills your contrasts.. you still see "white" but the blacks become greys and darks mix together. In a well lit room you lose about half your picture (the dark half) There are built in presets.. a button push on the remote cycles thru your various screen aspect ratio's. Another button cycles you thru brightness options. or you can go into the menu and manually configure color tint brightness aspect ratio etc.. IT also has an up or down..for turning the picture back into a square or rectangle due to the projector not beind dead on in front of the screen.. ie angled down from the roof.. use these buttons to square the picture from a semi pyramid shape caused by projector offset from center. I use this with the computer (which also acts as my tv with tuner card) video's i play with VLC software, and the colors tints contrast etc.. can be adjusted from there too.. i wonder if that actually changes bulb brightness or just the filtering.. The bulb has lasted 6 months already of near constant use.. (when i sleep i leave it on).. I just ordered a replacement bulb so when it does go.. I'm ready for it. It seems to me there are things you can do that just improve your quality of life by a huge leap vs a tiny bit for most things. This projector was one of those huge leaps for me. I have had no problems with quality so brand loyalty has developed. If i had to rank the importance of features #1 would be customer satisfaction/positive reviews #2 would be replacement bulb cost #3 resolution #4 Lumens (brightness). I love this product. *****

The picture quality of this project is great. I have been very satisfied with the features and functions--especially for the price. While this is not full high definition (HD) quality, it is better than most projectors at this price range. PREVIOUS REVIEW: It has repeatedly shut down due to overheating after using for less than 20 minutes. Our projector placement leaves plenty of room around it for air flow. Both fans are running, but it just completely shuts down everything and we must wait about 5 or 10 minutes before it will restart again. As a workaround, we've placed a small fan next to it to increase the air flow through the projector vents, which seems to have "solved" the problem, but is annoying and makes extra noise. Contacting technical support online provided very little support. REVIEW UPDATE: I have found that the angle of the projector was preventing proper air flow to cool it. Previously, I had the back end of the projector about four inches higher than the front, pointing downward. By lowering the back end and flattening the angle, air flow improved out the front and it no longer overheats.

Fantastic piece of technology at a great price! Streaming HD Netflix on a budget 80" screen (primed drop-cloth). Pros: price, warranty, 4000:1 contrast is great, works with lights on, resolution is nice for the price, multiple inputs, easy to use, bulb life 5000/6000hours! Cons: made in China

When it says is 3d ready I don't know what it is this. There is no 3d configuration in the menu. 3d computer ards are not recognized as such when transmiting games in 3d mode. Neither 3d blue ray are recognized as such.

This projector is great for the money. It's not exactly HD but I have it hooked up to an HTPC and I can watch all my media over it. Movies look very good and there is no lag when watching them. However, if you want to watch sports or play video games, the refresh rate is not good enough. You will have noticeable lag on these types of media. I have also had a few issues with the HDMI input tinting the picture blue from time to time. I have searched around the internet and there are quite a few mentions of this. Usually turning on and off will fix this, but sometimes I need to fully unplug it to get the picture back to normal. I have owned this projector for around a year and I have recommended it to people who are on a budget. I would get this over any $400 TV if you have the space to use it.

This is my third Infocus projector over the last 12 years or so. I use them as my primary TV and just use my wall and hung from the ceiling. My last one was nine years old and I wanted to upgrade to HDMI and 1080p. They keep getting better and less expensive. 100" HD at $450 is hard to beat.

I was looking for a reasonably portable projector with HDMI and VGA inputs that provided enough brightness (no less than 2000 Lumens) for a professional presentation. Have had this projector now for a few months and love it. I have traveled with it several times and do frequent presentations and have been very satisfied. Note that it does take a few minutes to come up to full brightness. I bought a portable screen that I carry with it; I got the Epson tabletop 52" diag screen that is quite good and very portable. On price, I compared this to several other projectors and felt like this was the best bang for the buck.

Great addition to our new home. The biggest downer is the rainbow effect, which is noticeable in the beginning, however we've managed to get used to it and absolutely love this projector. Compact, quiet, just bright enough to be used in the day, good resolution (I beam my desktop when working from home at 1440*900 - everything looks crisp, including text). Bought it refurbished, and it's working great for a good price. Haven't tried the advertised 3D function yet. Very happy with it. Would buy another one if upgrading was not an option.

Ich hatte mit diesem Modell leider nicht viel Glück: Der Erste Beamer liess sich nicht scharf stellen. Der Zweite hatte ein surrendes Farbrad. Der Dritte hatte ein pulsierendes Lüftergeräusch und schon von Werk aus einen durchgeführten Lampenreset im Service-Menü. Zu den Geräuschen habe ich bei Youtube zwei VideoŽs eingestellt (Suchbegriff: nerviges Geräusch IN116). Es sollte aber jeder selbst beurteilen, ob er damit leben kann. Ich kann es leider nicht, da ich der Meinung bin, das man gerade im Heimkino-Bereich ein Gerät ohne störende Nebengeräusche haben sollte. Ich habe micht letztlich für den "Acer X1311WH" entschieden und die Entscheidung nicht bereut. Die Bildqualität ist bei beiden Geräten absolut vergleichbar und wirklich spitze. Man hat das Gefühl, als hätte man einen ultrascharfen Plasma-TV. Allerdings ist der angegebene Kontrastwert beim Acer deutlich höher, was sich aber in der Praxis kaum bemerkbar machte. Einzig den Beamer-Deckenhalter musste ich, nach dem Umtausch versetzen, da der Acer für meine "kleine" Leinwand (2m breit) etwas näher heran musste, als der Infocus, da die Optik des Infocus einen größeren Zoom-Bereich hat und sich somit etwas besser auf die örtlichen Gegebenheiten anpassen lässt. Projektions-Beipiel aus einer Entfernung von 3,20m im 16:9-Format: Die Optik des Infocus ermöglicht hierbei breite min. 175cm und max. 218cm (also von 79 bis 98 Zoll) Die Optik des Acer ermöglicht hierbei breite min. 194cm und max. 213cm (also von 88 bis 96 Zoll) Der Lieferumfang ist bei beiden Geräten nahezu gleich. Nur das es beim Acer noch eine Tasche dazu gibt. Fazit: Der Infocus glänzt lediglich bei dem besseren Projektionsverhältniss. Wenn es einen aber nicht stört, das der Beamer bei kleinen Leinwänden etwas näher an die Leinwand gebaut werden muss (in meinem Fall nur ca. 35cm), sollte sich lieber für den leiseren "Acer X1311WH" entscheiden. Zumal er auch noch ein paar Euro günstiger ist. Viel Spaß beim "beamen" ;-)

Great device! I lugged it around through grad school in Europe and work throughout Canada for over three years now, leaving it with friends and family all along the way for extended periods. Everywhere I go, people start selling their TVs and buying projectors. Cons: it is quite noisy when the fan starts going and the speakers absolutely suck so using HDMI doesn't make sense (unless you can still configure external speakers). Still, best bang for your buck since all you really need with a projector is a huge, crisp image. I'm no hardcore cinephile, but this projector absolutely did it for me. However, the moment I can find one that's even smaller (this one fits in a backpack quite easily; just put some rolled-up socks over the lens because it doesn't come with a cover), is quieter in operation (looking at you, fan), doesn't heat up so much (though this is not really too much of an issue), has a wireless connection like Bluetooth enabled, and is ideally under $700 CAD, I'm going for it. Until then, I'm very happy with this purchase : ).

I bought this product in 28/7/2013, my children use it with ps3 2 hours every day, 5 hours in holidays, very good resolution clear and big screen gust need to be 3 meters between the wall and the projector, highly recommended.
