Our espresso carafe broke on us after 3 years of regular use (handle snapped off). No longer under warranty I was not up to contacting the manufacturer, even though someone suggested to me that I should try to get a free replacement out of them. For $13 I decided that since it broke while I was using it, I'd keep the economy going by being honest and paying for a replacement, and also keep my conscience clear. Don't get me wrong, if the glass itself shattered I'd be on the phone right away to Sunbeam or whatever they're called now for some form of compensation, at the very least a new carafe. Further to my review headline, I am glad I kept the lid from the original carafe. While the picture distinctly shows no lid, I would hope that the description (as opposed to our reviews) would have managed to point that out clearly. Lucky for us, the old lid fits perfectly on this new carafe. The handle on this one is also beefier than the original one, so even if I sucked it up and called to get a "free replacement" from the manufacturer, it would probably have broken the same way again, the handle had always been flimsy, but no adjustment could have been made on it.
