Author Sandra Urias has written this guide book based on her experience she gained in managing three S1000D projects.The book is full of sound advice. In particular, Sandra emphasizes on the importance of Functionality Matrix and the Business Rules document. She also recommends keeping a project portfolio or notebook. Since every S1000D project is unique, it is impossible to have a standard approach to budgeting and scheduling a project. As such, it is important to know how to determine the scope of the project and what are the factors to consider when scheduling the project. While it is imperative to hire the "right" personnel for any project, due to the complex nature of S1000D project, it is of paramount importance. If you are looking for how to select and manage key personnel, it is in Chapter 5. If you are looking for how to manage the computer aspect of the project, such as CSDB, data modules, and output, it is in Chapter 6. If you are looking for an understanding of the processes on product development, it is in Chapter 7. Finally, Sandra does a summing up in Chapter 8 re-iterating the importance of the Functionality Matrix and the Business Rules document.Excellent book. A must-read for those who are starting on a S1000D project and even for those who have already started, it is still a useful read.
