Stellar Sound!!!
Replaced my old Alpine CDA-9831 with this unit... I wanted something that I could control my iPhone from and take calls with and this thing is just the ticket. It has a lot of features I'll never use but the most important one, the sound, is top notch! I bought this over the other decks in the Alpine because of the huge 3-line display, might not be important to everyone but user experience is important to me and it was worth the additional cost! I have a budget system in my Toyota 4Runner (Alpine Type-S 6" Components up front, stock speakers in the rear and a Rockford Fosgate 10" Punch Sub, powered by a cheap mono amp) that I thought sounded decent with the old stereo but nothing to write home about. This new unit was a huge upgrade and made my modest system sound so much better - highs are brighter and lows are tighter and I no longer have to crank the volume to get a good sound. Looking forward to hearing it after I spend the time setting up the time correction! Note: I have encountered one problem that I haven't manage to fix yet - the deck will freeze when streaming audio via Bluetooth and trying to select another song using the search feature. Changing sources will bring it back but it is annoying. I'll just be using the USB connection for my iPhone til I get in touch with tech-support and figure it out.

This is my upgrade from the 305i
The HD is considerably better sound quality. It's nice having a CD player however I got used to not using it from my old stereo... Having an iPod or smart phone with Pandora and Sirius radio what kind of music do I actually need cd's for? I have not had much of. Chance to try out the Blue tooth hands free yet at freeway speeds but at a stop light it works great. At freeway speeds will be the test if it is better than my older parrot Bluetooth setup. Also not sure if I can change the settings on Pandora to stop it from automatically playing since that is using my data for my iPhone 5S. The phone syncs good with the stereo. My old stereo would show a phone book listing past phone calls or my phone book I have not seen that on this stereo yet but have not really tried yet. Nice stereo I'm running it with my Alpine PDX5. Good choice I'm happy also good design.

If you're like me stuck with a single DIN option and trying ...
Don't usually write reviews but had to on this one. If you're like me stuck with a single DIN option and trying to decide between Kenwood KDC-X998 and this Alpine CDE-HD149BT I can save you some trouble. Both are top of the line DIN units from respective companies. I've decided on Kenwood first. Got it, installed it, uninstalled after one week, returned. Not going into the technical parameters, sound quality, etc. which are pretty similar on both. But on the Kenwood, literally - you've got to pull over to change the radio station or any sound setting, etc. And before that you have to go back to college and take a "Operating a Kenwood" course, lol. The unit is so user unfriendly I don't know what the designers were thinking? Also generally looks cheap with its shiny black and silver plastic. The Kenwood's tech support advised it's technically impossible to see the artist/song info while streaming Pandora music through BT. Well, Alpine seems to have all the answers. Well made, great design/display/fonts, very intuitive and easy user interface, I don't remember looking into the manual much. And sure enough full song/artist info display plus track controls(FF/pause) through BT. Super happy and highly recommend it! Feel free to ask any questions if you have them. Cheers!

Most Excellent Head Unit and sound system ever.
I had and still have the Alpine ILX-W650 which is a Double Din Head unit which performed exceptionally but, I wanted a head unit that had a knob so when I'm driving I can just reach down and make adjustments. This CDE_HD149BT head unit is the absolute BOMB.. My expectations have been exceeded. The Volume knob controls everything including the volume of the Subwoofers so you don't need to order the optional "RUX" knob.. My entire system is al Alpine, head unit, Type R speakers, type R amp and type R subs... This system is truly mind blowing.. The sound has to be heard to be believed.. The bass is clear, the mids is also clear the Highs are also clear without any hissing.. I'm using the Alpine R-A90S Amp and the MRV-M500 Alpine Monoblock with two R-W12D2 Subs, and four R-69S speakers.. Truly unbelievable sound.. Alpine is expensive but their products are second to none.

Great Single DIN For The Money
I recently decided to upgrade the old JVC receiver in my '06 Impreza because I wanted Bluetooth audio streaming and phone connectivity. I paired the 149BT with the Alpine Power Pack and it sounds great! I've been using the unit for about a week and here are my impressions so far: The Good: -Lots of features for the price. -Lots of control over sound settings. -Good sound quality even on stock speakers (OEM "premium" speakers). -BT call quality is good (not amazing but not bad). -BT connects quickly and reliably (Nexus 5). -Rear USB and AUX make for a clean install. -Buttons feel less "sloppy" than other receivers I've used. -More understated looking than many other receivers out there. The So-So: -When skipping tracks in Bluetooth, it takes 4 or 5 seconds to show the song info making it hard to skip ahead quickly. -The intermittent spinning of the source icons is cheesy and distracting. -Not sure the UI always makes the most of the available screen space. The Bad: -Built-in fan is audible when at idle or when car is off. -Only 4 button illumination colors. My 3 year old, mid-level JVC receiver had virtually unlimited color options. -Dimmest screen setting is still too bright for night driving in my opinion. -Mute button is small and only lowers the volume level. Overall the unit is great for the money and most of my cons are nit picking. The headunit and Power Pack really make the stock speakers sound half way decent (although a better set would probably help even more). If you are looking at a feature-rich single DIN check out the 149BT. It offers solid sound quality at a reasonable price.

Way better than Alpine 138BT (which itself isn't bad).
I originally installed Alpine 138BT on my car. It also had Alpine 445U amplifier and four Alpine SPR60 speakers. Additionally, it had a subwoofer amplifier (Rockford). My car sounded great. So great, I couldn't turn the volume down. After one year, my stereo was fried. So I decided to purchase this to replace my Alpine 138BT. I didn't have high expectations. I thought they would sound the same. I was wrong. This sounds MUCH better. First, the dynamic range of sound is much wider. Second, the midrange sound is superior. Third, the level of audio adjustments are much greater. I could hear instruments with this unit that I couldn't hear with Alpine 138BT. Additionally, the display and HD Radio are superior to Alpine 138BT. The only thing I liked better on my 138BT was its USB cables were on the front plate. For this unit, the USB cables are in the back. So when you install it, you must punch a hole in your dash somewhere for your USB cable outlet. My car audio installer did this for me. I highly recommend this unit and I certainly recommend this unit over Alpine 138BT which is only $50 less. Pros: 1)Superior sound to stereo units that are only $50 cheaper. 2)Really good HD Radio reception and sound. 3)High levels of adjustments for audio, display, and front plate colors (blue, green, orange, red). Cons: 1)You must have separate audio amplifiers (for both 4 speakers and subwoofer) and fine audio speakers to get the most out of this unit. This unit will work without the audio amplifiers, but it will sound inferior.Ditto for speakers.

Too complicated to use...hard to adjust when driving...even simple stuff is complicated
This thing is like a computer and you have to push buttons to select anything....impossible for the passanger who just wants to turn the sound down or find another station...just too complicated

Great Drop in Replacement for my Alpine CDA-9885
I had an Alpine CDA-9885. I replaced it with this unit. 1st Recommendation is if you are going to use the Alpine TuneIt App, set that up before Pairing your phone. Basically I pressed in Audio for 2 Seconds, set the Application to Bluetooth (Choices are Off, USB & Bluetooth) Then Have the TuneIt App Open, then go to Pair with your Phone. Cycle your Car Key Off & then back to the Acc position so the Alpine comes back on. Should be found as a Bluetooth device if not hit scan on your phone. As far as Replacing my CDA-9885. The Main Connector is identical and Plugs right in. The RCAs (Red/Whites for External Amps) the Front was middle on the CDA-9885 & the Top on the 149BT Mine had a iPod Cable run for the CDA-9885, this will not plug into the 149BT. I removed my iPod Cable & plugged my iPod into the Back USB & tie wrapped it up as you can control everything you need right from the Alpine Controls. I liked the addition of the Green LED theme to match the dash lights on my 355 Bluetooth works great, 1 Connection for Calls, Music Streaming & Navigation using Google Maps (Why can't you do this people like GM where I end up with 1 for music & 1 for Calls, no Bonus for you) TuneIt App gives tons of Tweaking Options, but not sure the Server is still running for downloading Presets because I get "No Internet Connection" but Radio Sounds Great with just tweaking Bass & Treble from Units Controls, so not a big deal.
