Great series of cases, with looks, form and function.
I really like pelican cases. The pick and pluck foam is fine, but easily changed for Kaizen Foam if needed. The protector cases are solid, and well engineered, with some weight for protection. The 1550 case is large, and has large capacity. I needed the extra size and depth to transport larger items, and it looks and works great.

Fantastic protection
These cases are great. They are kind of heavy and are not cheap but neither is my camera equipment. If I have any concern it is that they kind of advertise that there is something pricey inside, but I keep a very close eye on the stuff. Also can be locked and attached to something sufficiently securely that a thief is going to have to come prepared with tools and have some time to spend. I use a good old fashioned long shackle padlock and chain ;-) I now have two of these.

2nd Best Not Good Enough? Use a Pelican Case
Huge box, I use it for my DVX100B and all related film equipment. I could drop this thing from an overpass or use it for hand to hand combat and it would protect the cargo perfectly. Solid handle design will never break.Pick and pluck foam is FANTASTIC! It's the next best thing to having an expensive custom cut. Be sure to use silk fabric between the foam and your expensive equipment, as the foam has tendency to flake off in very small pieces. Note: this is not a design flaw but the nature and density of the foam itself. Water resistant a plus, solid rubber seal compressed with solid case latches, however, the wife looked at me funny when I went to give the case a bath... could I blame her?Pelicans seem to be worth the extra 30 bucks and (hey look) made in the USA so the polymers won't degrade, weaken and crack after two years. Fine job - I will be getting more for my permanent storage items I no longer wish to keep in wobbly Tupperware muy Grande.

Pelican makes the best quality storage and transport cases for equipment
Pelican makes the best quality storage and transport cases for equipment. They are compact, strong, and extremely durable. We have several cases at work that are about ten years old. They've been shipped across the country multiple times and survived manhandling by TSA, FedEx, and other sausage-fingered gorillas. They still work well and have plenty of life left. The stainless steel hinge pins still move easily even after getting dirt, water, and dust on them several times. The hard plastic shell doesn't scratch easily and seems to resist cracking. The front latches still close securely after being used over and over again. These are the only kind of cases we will purchase for important equipment in the future.I have no idea why the desert tan version is cheaper than the other colors, but it looks good.

Good quality but over priced
It is very good quality. Fit and finish is excellent. The foam is of high quality and should last a long time. The latches are somewhat difficult to snap down but certainly this is to provide a very positive and secure closure. I like the metal lined holes for locking the lid shut and it's also good to run a cable lock through to lock this to something stationary. I'm only giving it 4 stars because I think they are a little overpriced.

Pelican cases are top of the line.
This is perfect to safely store many handguns. You can easily fit 6 of them in there and have room for extra magazines as well. The pluckable foam on the bottom comes in 2 separate layers that make it easy to pluck out spaces that will perfectly receive every handgun regardless of their sizes or shapes. The egg-crate foam on the top is very soft and will not create problems for handguns that might have red dot optics on them. The case is very strong and sturdy, the latches lock tightly without any loose in them. This is definitely a great purchase if you care about your handguns. 5/5 would buy again but I never will need to because these things last forever!

Factory will not honor their own warranty
I own seven Pelican cases and have always liked them enough to spend the extra money to purchase them. I also just purchased a 1524 with this 1550 unit. The 1524 arrived with the top convoluted foam cut a little small, so each time I open the lid, the foam falls out. Not that big of a deal, just irritating. I contacted Pelican and explained the problem. They could care less, and absolutely refused to exchange this one piece of foam. I guess a piece of replacement foam would cut into their profits too much. They just lost a good customer. There are lots of other quality cases out there which are more reasonably priced. Try one of those instead of Pelican products.
