It says it has built-in high dynamic range speakers; but it does also have an earphone jack so I'd assume that you could plug in an external speaker there.

will this play mp3 cds?

I'm pretty sure that it doesn't. I've only ever played cd's and it sounds as you would expect equipment of this size and scope to sound.
