Apologies in advance for the lengthy review. I try to be very thorough, especially considering this frame was not inexpensive at $189.99, but entirely worth every cent. Compared to other digital photo frames that have Wi-fi connectivity, the Pix-Star PXT510WR02 10.4 Inch FotoConnect XD Digital Picture Frame is by far the best choice. Kodak had similar offerings, but their frames were either smaller in size or were more expensive. Kodak has since filed for bankruptcy, resulting in their Wi-fi enabled picture frame content management to be transferred to a third party. Since there is no guarantee that the proverbial "plug" might be pulled on the Kodak picture frames at any time, choosing a Wi-fi enable picture frame leaves you with few choices. Enter Pix-Star, with their well-designed 10.4" offering. Right out of the box, it is clear this frame will lead to years of enjoyment. The materials are of good quality. The frame is non-touchscreen, which helps eliminate fingerprints, but in order to keep the face of the frame clean, the navigation buttons were placed on the back of the frame, which takes some serious getting used to. If you decide to mount the frame on the wall, the buttons are inaccessible. For this reason, the supplied remote control that works from across the room is a definite "must". There is a SD card slot on the back of the frame, along with a USB port. (Hint: If you have a spare USB Bluetooth dongle, you can plug it in to the USB port and you've also just made this frame Bluetooth compatible, allowing you to send photos directly and instantly to the frame with a Bluetooth-enabled device. Setup is simple enough. Following the supplied directions was a breeze. The manufacturer's website supplies some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and also serves as the content management for your frame. Pictures saved to the frame can be deleted from the frame or from the website. Delete only from the frame and you still have a backup online. Delete only online and still have the picture saved locally on the frame. Check the box to delete from both sources to wipe a picture completely. Upon registering your photo frame with Pix-Star, you create a dedicated e-mail address ([email protected]), which allows you to use your computer (PC or Mac) or your data- or Wi-fi enabled smartphone or tablet to log in to your e-mail provider (Gmail, Yahoo!, Outlook, etc.), attach a picture to it, hit send and in about one minute, the picture arrives at your photo frame, provided it is connected to Wi-fi. In the frame's settings, you can enable the option to show the subject line of the e-mail overlaid on the picture in an unobtrusive fashion, which can help serve as a description of the picture (where/when it was taken or what you were doing). There are three methods to e-mail delivery. Since I am gifting someone who is tech-savvy, I elected to choose the "notify me, then let me decide to save or delete the new picture mail" option. The frame has sound, so it lets you know when there is new mail, along with displaying a "new mail" icon in the top right corner. The other two options are to "automatically save, and inform me of the new picture mail" or "automatically save and don't notify me". I prefer the first option, since it notifies you of the incoming mail, but also allows you to delete the picture immediately. With "SPAM" e-mail as prevalent as it is, you never know who may end up sending random pictures to your or your loved ones' photo frame. Once pictures are received, the frame even has the option to send it to other recipients, without the need for logging in to your account on the website. As an added bonus, this frame also allows Wi-fi streaming of radio stations from numerous countries, all over the world. You can have the radio play in the background while still using the frame to cycle through pictures. Weather information is also an option, although I have not explored it yet. According to the website, it can take several hours for the weather information to update and make its way to your frame, so don't be alarmed if you don't see it right away. I didn't in the about hour I tested the frame before packing it back up to send to the parents. One final note regarding the Wi-fi connectivity. There are some reviews that state the frame has a sub-par radio. I did not have any issues connecting the frame, although it did take uncannily long to connect - literally about 5-6 minutes passed before the icons on the frame's Wi-fi menu changed to active and the frame began receiving e-mails. Attempting to retry entering in the access point (router) password resulted in the same 5-6 minute wait. Since I have a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) backup battery, I was able to test the range of the frame up to approximately 75 feet (outside to the sidewalk) before the frame lost connection. Your results may vary depending on your router's strength. My results were obtained with a WRT610N Linksys router. Once connected, there were zero issues with the photo frame. It took about 30 minutes for all of the radio stations to show up on the frame. Picture mail was immediately received and were consistently received within about a minute each and every time I sent a test picture. Bottom line: A solid choice! There aren't any other true Wi-fi photo frames out there that have as many options as this one, with such a large screen, with a dedicated e-mail address and with great support. There is one other Wi-fi photo frame out there I considered (Ceiva.com), but it required a monthly/yearly membership fee to use the picture mail, etc. option - I prefer paying a bit more on the front end, which pays itself off in just a few months of use. Buy the Pix-Star now and you won't be disappointed.

When searching for a birthday gift for my 77 year old mother I happened upon this digital photo frame. I liked it because of the 10" size and for the WiFi capabilities. When I read that the frame would be paired with a unique email address so that anyone with the address and authorization could send the frame photos I was sold on it as a gift idea. The frame also has the ability to play music from a micro SD card, or via preset Internet radio stations of various genres. The ability of the frame to receive voice messages and videos was also a selling point, and justification enough for me to spend a bit more than anticipated on this item. UNBOXING & SETUP: The frame seems well made and has VESA mounting holes on the back of it, so that the frame could easily be mounted to a wall. It ships with an AC power adapter and a metal dowel (pictured to the back of the frame) which props it on a desktop. The frame is about the same size as a standard 8x12" frame, and not much thicker. There is a remote in the box with two AAA batteries. Install the batteries before powering on the unit if you want to use it with the frame to set it up. There are also buttons on the back of the frame to navigate the menu if the remote is lost or out of batteries. The on/off switch on the back of the frame is a little tough to see, but once you plug in the AC and flip that switch to 'on', the frame starts setting itself up by showing you an onscreen menu. You will need your WiFi password to connect the frame to wireless internet; on which most of the functions of the frame will rely. After entering the password on my Mom's frame, the photos I'd sent to it began to immediately populate the screen. NOTE: You can setup the email account for the frame ahead of time if giving it as a gift, and add or remove photos as desired both via a PC on the Pix-Star website, or on the photo frame itself. ---------------------------- WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS PRODUCT... 1. It's super easy to setup and works as promised. 2. The pictures look great on the screen - true colors and great resolutions (if the photos also had this). 3. The internet radio and music via micro SD card feature is really nice to have in addition to the ability to add external speakers. 4. The onscreen Menu interface is clear and easy to use. 5. You can email photos downloaded to the device to other people, with the frame, which makes a computer unnecessary for the frame user. 6. The remote is easy to use, with clear navigation. 7. Friends and family can sent photos, videos and audio messages to the frame with ease using the FREE Pix-Star Snap apps for iOS and Android and via email (also free). 8. No hidden charges or fees for the Pix-Star service! 9. Internal storage on the device is very good, and you can add more with a micro SD card (not included). With 300 pictures and a voice message, only 3% of the internal storage was being used. 10. Easy to see date and time feature. 11. Lots of Settings that allow for personalization of how you view photos; as singles or in various collage styles, and in varying speeds and with various transitions. 12. Weather info is useful and up-to-date with web based interface. 13. Social media can be connected to the frame so that pictures posted on sites like Facebook, can also automatically be sent to the frame. 14. Photos that the user doesn't want on the frame can easily be deleted in the Settings Menu. 15. High capacity internal storage means not having to worry about sending too many photos to the device, and if it does get 'too full' it's simple to go online to take photos off the frame without losing them. I think the max is something like 20,000 photos without any additional storage added, which for most users will be more than enough. ---------------------------- WHAT I WISH WAS BETTER... - Build quality seems good, but not 'high-end'. Time will tell how it holds up with continued use. - Backlighting on the remote would be a useful addition. - The games are not really a useful addition as the remote control is the only way to navigate them without a touchscreen interface. - The instructions that come with the frame are a little confusing, but I found that going to the Pix-Star website and clicking 'Support' and 'Knowledge Base' was helpful. This address: pixstar.uservoice.com/knowledgebase is a good place to check if you have questions as to the functionality of your frame. - The option to untether from the AC power and go on battery power would be nice. ------------------------------------ CONCLUSION: The ability to easily send photos via PC, smartphone or tablet to the Pix-Star digital frame is a wonderful feature, and the main one that interested me when I purchased it as a gift. It was simple to register the frame, pick a unique email address for it, and begin sending photos to the email which automatically showed up on the frame after it was connected to wireless internet. My sister and I now have a way to share photos of our kids with their grandmother almost instantaneously, as well as voice messages and videos. There's a lot more to this frame than others of its size and price range, and the FREE Pix-Star service seems to work very well. The apps are FREE too, and worked well on both my Android smartphone and my iOS devices (iPad Air 2 and iPhone). This product has lots of features (be sure to read the product description and go to the Pix-Star site to read more...) and is well worth the money if you have someone who is not tech-savvy, but still wants to enjoy staying connected to family and friends. It would also be a good choice for My Mom loved hers and I recommend it to others for its ease of use, multiple functions, and clear, bright screen.

Got everything in the package, new, good shape. The frame is solid and looks nice. The back is black plastic. Set it up on the table, plugged it in, booted up. Connecting to my wifi was simple, just follow the directions for the setup. It found my wifi quickly and I was in business. This little gem has it's own dedicated email address (through the pixstar.com website). Go to the host website, establish a free account, then pick a name for your email address. You can select anything you want, like [email protected], register, and that will be it's address. Now go share that email adress with friends and family and they can send pictures directly to the unit. I jumped on Facebook, messaged my family the special email address of the picture frame, and with 10 minutes we had new pictures arriving. You can easily take a picture with your smartphone and email it directly to the address. I was pleasently surprised to find out that I can control most of the unit's functions remotely through the website. Meaning, after I return home, and Grampa wants some settings changed, I can log in from my house (or anywhere really), make the changes, and in a few minutes the unit will update. There are lots of good settings to control like how the pictures will transition, how long to display them, and time-of-day to turn on/off. I set it to turn on at 8am, and turn off at 8pm. You can also organize the picture folders, add/delete pictures, or upload directly from your computer. One important feature is the auto-accept. Normally, when a new picture comes in, it will give a audible tone and show an icon on the screen. You then need to open the Menu, navigate to the Inbox, select the new picture, View it, and Keep/Reject it. That's a lot to do for my ailing dad, so I easily set it to Auto-Accept. That way, when a new picture arrives, it will play a tone then put the new picture in the rotation without him needing to fumble with the controls. The unit has a "kickstand" silver peg to make it stand up, or you can mount it to the wall (no hardware provided) with a couple screws. It does not have an internal battery, so it must be plugged in at all times. It can access web-based radio and play it through the built-in speakers, but the speakers are small and would best be suited for bedside or desktop, not to entertain a large room. There are several other options to input media through cable, USB, etc. Remember, if you are not connected to wifi, you cannot get auto-downloaded pictures. PROS: - Easy setup and powerup. - Website to control most functions of the unit remotely. - FREE email address for the unit to quickly send pictures. - Bright clear screen shows good pictures. - Auto-accept function to easily get pictures in the show. CONS: - The buttons on the side of the unit can be used to control the menu, and although they are large, it's not easily apparent how they control the on-screen menun. The screen is not a touch-screen, so it's a lot of button pushing. They are all aligned vertically, 2 are for left/right, 2 are for up/down, another for select, another for Menu. The small remote control made it easier to navigate the menu. - The remote control is small, seemed frail, and has those small "bump" buttons. You need to stand pretty close to the unit and aim the remote at the screen for it to properly work. On the plus side, it made navigating the onscreen menu easier. Very happy with this unit, now my family has no excuses not to send Grampa and Gramma pictures. Speaking of which, time to go remind everyone to send in a new one!

short version: A nice picture frame for casual users. Not exactly for photo enthusiast. 1st some background. I like tech and recently have gotten into photography. I wanted a way to share my pics with guests and friends without being intrusive and pretentious by forcing people to "hey check out these pictures." The frame would just display pictures and hopefully they would be noticed while in the background. A conversational piece. This serves that purpose. But with some caveats. Its simple, which is good. I like the wifi, range is good enough as 2 rooms separate the frame and my router. Emailing the frame is probably the smoothest way to get pictures onto it. The website is simple and decent enough but not as slick as I would have hoped. I use flikr the most to store my photos. At 1st I had problems getting pictures from my flikr user photostream onto it. It would only upload pics from albums or sets. So it wasn't getting all my flikr pictures. Until I created an album called "all" and put all of my pictures into that album. This was an extra step I did not want to have to do. I contacted pix-star customer service via email and was replied to promptly. The support tech recommended to setup albums and sets in order to use flikr becuz he admitted the flikr user photostream was buggy. Reluctantly I did so for what other choice was there since pics from the user photostream were not being uploaded by the frame. As of now it seems this bug has been alleviated. The website uploads pictures from my flikr user photostream fine now. I think one just needs to be patient and let the website pull the pictures from ur user photostream on it own once linked. I would manually update my photostream folder via the website and i think it would get confused for it would upload some pictures twice. Ive learned if I link the user photostream and let it upload it on its own it works as I hoped. I've also learned that I can link 2 personal flikr accounts to it. As opposed to friends accounts only. This helps becuz not all pictures on a personal account are shared, some are private. But with the linked overall photostream from the personal account, the private pictures are still displayed by the frame. So everything is kewl and great on this aspect. However...... The biggest con for this frame is its display. Its nice enough for grandma. But being a somewhat low resolution lcd the pictures just don't pop. The resolution and screen are no where near the quality of my phone and tablet. If I were to set a slide show on my tablet (Samsung Note 10.1) the pictures display in full HD glory. Pictures on my tablet and phone get noticed. Whereas on the frame not so much, if at all. So really the only ones that enjoy the pictures on the frame are my family since there's a personal connection. I also learned that the viewing angle of this display is pretty bad. If not real bad. The quality of the picture suffers greatly when not viewed above and perpendicular to the frame. I mounted this frame on a shelf screwed into the wall a little above waist high. But when sitting on a couch the viewing angle is too low. And from the sides the screen starts to black out. A characteristic of low end lcds. The frame angles upward if not mounted to the wall itself so really u kind of have to be standing above the frame to get the best result. And even then the pictures still dont grab u like a decent tablet of phone's screen will. To reiterate, this frame will serve u well if u only want to use it for basic display of pictures. Your full high res/high quality photos will be underutilized. Still it does as intended and display pictures easily. It may not get our guests attention all the time but at least we enjoy the pictures. A retina display it is not. This thing would be great once the screen quality gets increased. Edit: I've added another star from 3 to 4 because I've saw all the questions on here answered by the pix-star staff. It seems they support the product really well. Kudos to that. Also, Ive learned that pretty much every digital picture frames out there have horrible viewing angles.

I love this frame! I bought it for my 88 year old mother as a Christmas gift. She has an older Sony digital frame, but I had to come into town with my laptop to load it and as a result the pictures were rarely updated. She is no longer able to work on a computer or use Facebook so she was feeling left out. This frame solved that! It was very easy to set up. I sent the e-mail address to friends and family and photos started pouring in! I chose a setting that highlights new photos in the rotation so they are shown more frequently, and added her location so that the weather report appears periodically. The website is very easy to use and I really like that I can manage the frame remotely. While others can e-mail or use the app to send photos, the app is a good choice as it is easy and sizes and positions photos correctly for the frame. There is tons of storage for photos so she will not run out of room. The image quality is very good. The only shortcoming is that there is no motion detection so it is always on. There is an option to set times of day to be on, but I found that less desirable since she cannot figure out how to adjust the settings each time it comes back up. The frame has a video option, but the one video I tried when I tested it had such poor image quality on the frame that I would not recommend that either. I don't consider that a problem though since it would be used infrequently and as it works so well otherwise. I am very tempted to upgrade my frame as well now (especially since I can have multiple frames on the same account), and to give one to my sister whose son just had his first child (since they live in different cities). It just makes it so easy for everyone to share photos effortlessly!

I ordered this Pix-Star 10.4" because I wanted a larger frame with Wi-Fi and the possibility to share pictures over the internet to replace our old 7 inch in which pictures haven't been changed for months (years?)... First thing to say is that it's really a 3 minutes max. to setup, including Wi-Fi configuration, choose your own frame email address on the web site. The ability of having an email address associated with the frame that I can share with friends and family is really great. It is easy to setup, easy to use even for non-technical people. You can also send photos to any email address from the frame directly. I wish I had more control over the order that pictures are displayed (currently only alphabetical order is supported) but you can control the duration, the transition and more important there is a random mode for your photos in the slideshow. It supports connection to a lot of web album providers such as Facebook, Picasa, FlickR, etc... I personally tested only Facebook and Picasa and they work perfect. You "link" the web album to the frame using the web site that goes with your Pix-Star, it is very simple and pictures start to display on the frame after just a few minutes. From the web site you can also control the frame remotely, change the configuration, decide which album to display, add pictures, remove pictures, create albums, etc... It is very convenient if you plan to give this to your parents or grandparents as a gift as you can help them remotely with the product. The display itself is very good, compared to our 7 inch frame, with 10.4 inch images are not only bigger but they are also crisper and brighter and on this one really reflect natural colors of my pictures. The product is very responsive, the remote control is simplistic but does the job and works from a fair distance. Overall a very good product, excellent gift for those leaving abroad or parents that don't really like to deal with computers or technology.

Finally decided to get a digital photo frame so I could relive the joys of past vacations. This one works very well and the photos look great. I wanted one with a motion sensor and the capability to play music. This fit the bill. I was a bit nervous after reading other reviews about picture quality concerns. Looks great to me. I have it by my desk and also like the fact that it has a little clock in the upper right-hand corner. The fact that you can email photos to the frame is a plus. What a joy to look over and see fond memories while I work. Wish I had bought one long ago! I did notice (as other reviewers mention) that you have to point the remote control directly at the "remote reception area" (don't know what else to call it) on the frame. It's a small black sphere about 2 inches above the lower corner on the right-hand side of the frame. If you don't point it accurately, it may not register the remote selections you're making. Not a big deal for me. I bought a small button-type thumb drive, dumped a bunch of photos on it and inserted it in the back of the frame. It allows you to customize a lot of the settings: - Show 1 photo at a time or multiple photos at a time in a photo-collage - Many transitions to choose from...pick and choose which ones you like - Duration of how long each photo is displayed - How long before it turns off when it hasn't sensed motion - Remote control with pause, play, next photo and previous photo selections - Size of the clock (small, medium large) It shows the date and the weather forecast for your own zip code, then shows a map with temperatures around your country. You can program how often this is displayed. It doesn't seem to update the current temp very often, as it usually says 'as of 6am' or somesuch. Not a deal-breaker for me but I wanted to mention it nonetheless.

Granddaddy is so hooked on his frame that he checks every 15 minutes for new photos. He asked me to slow down it's display speed to give people time to talk about the pictures. The frame is such a draw to his room that he often has a crowd in there to see what is displaying. I recently sent Google satellite shots of the nursing home he's in, triggering requests for shots of other places. I've also started sending very old photos such as his engagement photo. He hasn't been willing to take the long drive to my house in a couple of years but, after seeing the photos, he's ready to come. The frame was easy to set up, easy to control from my computer, and easy to add photos to (anyone in the family can add photos). I edit my photos to 800 x 600 pixels, add text, and save as 150kb or lower. I estimate that the frame can hold about 800+ photographs of that size. Although Pixstar correctly points out that they resize the photos for you, if you add text to a photo with a different aspect ratio (i.e., you have wide angle photos), your text might get cut off. I do wish I could rearrange the order of photos once they are uploaded. Update: Granddaddy's not doing so well and can't talk well on the phone. We are using the frame to keep him grounded and to allow distant family members to communicate with him daily. It's a blessing. Update: Seven months later and Granddaddy and the frame are still going strong. It provides incentive to the whole family to take and edit photos regularly and quickly. And it's easy use the Pix-star photos for screen savers on our pcs. Grandaddy has become fluent on networking and said he made the nursing home get the IT guy there to move the router (his actual words) closer to his room. He had pictures of the Nemo snowstorm coming in the day after the storm had passed Boston. Update 7/13: Pixstar had made steady improvements to the website for managing the displayed photos. I just downloaded all of them in a zipped file to my office workstation. His frame routinely goes offline but to get it back online, he unplugs it and then plugs it back in. Update 2/14: Haven't been able to update in a month. The photos are displaying on the Pix-star website but not downloading to the frame. I wrote twice to Pix-star asking for directions and have received no reply. I also had to go back to uploading photos via email. Not sure what is happening to their customer support. Update 10/14: We got the frame working again so Granddaddy had it up to the end. The frame gave us all something we could do when we couldn't do anything else.

Super idée cadeau pour une personne âgée. Je lui ai tout préparé à l'avance en chargeant des centaines de photos qu'elle aime. C'est d'un maniement ttes simple. Il lui suffit maintenant de brancher le cadre photo puis avec la télécommande de cliquer sur Jouer les photos du cadre et hop ça défile au rythme que j'ai préréglé. C'est toptions. On peut aussi brancher un disque dur externe ou une clé USB ou via un site de photos ou envoyer par mail. Côté image c'est un très beau rendu aucun souci. On peut passer aussi les vidéos mais je n'ai pas encore testé. L'écran est de taille parfait assez grand pour que ce soit agréable à regarder. Un gros point positif c'est le service client très réactif par mail si on a la moindre question j'ai posé une question et j'ai eu la réponse dans l'heure de manière très précise avec une vraie personne qui vous répond et qui connaît parfaitement le cadre photo. Ça fait très service personnalisé. Il n'y a pas meilleure idée cadeau je trouve. Le tout avant de l'offrir c'est de tout préparer, de faire les réglages de rythme etc pour que la personne n'ait plus qu'à l'allumer et le poser. Je recommande totalement. Le cadeau a fait très plaisir

I wanted to order digital photo frame for my parents who are not technical geeks. Also I knew that it will be difficult for them to copy photos from computer to SD card and update it every week or month. Therefore I chose this product. I put all photo albums on picasa and then just linked them on pixstar portal with this device. Now the photo frame shows randomly photos from hundreds of albums. Other great option is weather forecast. My parents live in Slovakia in some smaller town (around 20000) so this town wasn't included as option for weather forecast. You know what's great? I just simply raised a request to include this town and they did it! Another great function is web radio. Again there was only one Slovak radio as option. So I again raised request and they added all Slovak radios I suggested. This just unbelievable great service. You can listen to radio during photos presentation or you can play music from usb. Additional option which I really appreciate is the email function. My parents have a digital camera but they are not enough skill to transfer photos from camera to computer and then send it me via mail or share it somehow. Now it's perfectly easy for them as they will just put sd card to photo frame choose the photo and press mail button on remote controller. They can choose from already added email contacts or they can type new contact. They even can send photos to group of contacts. Now they can share photos with others by just one button. And on other hand if I will take some photo and want to share it with my parents I will just send it to my parents' pixstar email account and the photo is immediately available in photo frame, There will appear notification icon the new mail has come and you can press receiving mail button on remote controller and photo is immediately displayed. Really great option. Everything with pixstar is perfect. Display is bright and clear. There is also mosaic option, different transition effects. You can setup photo frame to start and stop every day during your specified hours (for example from 07:00 am till 11:00 pm). You can link your albums with more than 20 different web services. You can also use photo rss feeds, dlna, local usb drives/sd cards. You can play photo presentations from all different sources in once. You can easily manage digital photo frame with your remote controller/ with buttons on back panel or from pixstar web portal. The price of the device is completely worth of it. I never saw any other photo frame with so many and so good functions. perfect present for christmas

If you have a family member that you do not see very often, but know that they would like to regularly see your pictures, then they could simply check on facebook (or other similar method). But if they are perhaps technically blond, then this is the perfect solution. I registered this picture frame with the website and chose the language for the setup, etc. and tested it at home. I then travelled to my parents's house and connected this picture frame to the WiFi at my parent's place. I had already added some photos. I take a picture with my mobile phone and send it to the email adress associated with this picture frame and a short time later, it appears on the screen. A short time after I came home again, my Dad rang with a problem. I was able to login to the website and *check the status* of the picture frame. I could see that the newest pictures which I had sent had not arrived to the picture frame. I was able to see that the picture frame was offline and was able to guide my Dad through reconnecting it again. I have been looking for exactly this product for a few years. I am delighted that I bought it and heartily recommend it to anyone who wishes to share their pictures in a simple, stress-free way. Andrew
