Sixty percent of the population has suffered from a digestive ailment in the last three months. Acid reflux, heartburn, gastritis, ulcers, lactose intolerance, and food allergies are among the many ailments caused by faulty digestion. Digestive Wellness was designed to help you understand the complex relationships between gastrointestinal physiology, diet, and health. Written by noted nutritionist Elizabeth Lipski, this accessible third edition of the popular resource has been thoroughly updated to reflect the latest information and research on digestive disorders. Here, you will find practical advice on implementing a wellness program to promote health and alleviate a wide range of problems caused by faulty digestion. Review: Restore your digestion and gut health! - Lipski's book DIGESTIVE WELLNESS, explains digestion exceptionally well for the lay person, and gives concrete, do-able directions for restoring digestive function for a host of gut problems. Maybe it ties it all together for me because I've already read a lot on the subject of digestion, but it does seem like this particular book really empowers the individual in restoring their own optimal gut function no matter what the originating cause. If you were only going to get one book on the subject of digestion, DIGESTIVE WELLNESS should be the book. It covers both the specific 'diagnosed' gut issues as well as the non-specific. It gives the conventional tests as well as the 'functional medicine' tests that are often more informative. It suggests specific diet change recommendations and reasonable short-term supplement changes that aid healing for specific problems. My FNP saw my copy and will be ordering her own copy ASAP - (and yes, she has gut issues, too, that haven't been resolved by modern medicine). Other very useful books on digestion are: Why Stomach Acid is Good for You: Natural Relief from Heartburn, Indigestion, Reflux and GERD by Jonathan Wright, MD, Healthy Digestion the Natural Way: Preventing and Healing Heartburn, Constipation, Gas, Diarrhea, Inflammatory Bowel and Gallbladder Diseases, Ulcers, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and More by D. Lindsey Berkson, Gut Solutions: Natural Solutions to Your Digestive Problems " by Brenda Watson, ND and Leonard Smith, MD. Each of these other books have excellent features, But if I could only buy one book, I'd start with Lipski's DIGESTIVE WELLNESS. Review: Informative Text - This is a good book if you want to learn all about digestion, the areas of the body involved and how different foods, herbs, and minerals can heal (or destroy) the body. It was interesting to discover how many ailments that are not commonly associated with digestion actually were alleviated or reduced by change in diet and supplementation. I recommend the author consider making the text flow better on a re-write of this text. To me the book was very reference-like. I admit it did state in the beginning that the book was not written to be read from front to back. Nevertheless, I expect books to read this way unless it's specifically labeled as a reference text.

Wealth of information about our ability to heal ourselves!
If you have digestive issues and want to try to heal yourself naturally, this book has a lot of information, advice and options one should try. I live a pretty healthy lifestyle (vegan, limited coffee/alcohol, non-smoker, exercise, limit exposure to toxins) and have developed horrible digestive issues over the past year (IBS symptoms). This book has given me tips on how to heal myself, what foods to avoid and how to try to cleanse my system before running to the Doctor to see if a bunch of tests will reveal anything. After 2 weeks of eliminating commonly causing irritation foods (like garlic, onions, other fruis & veggies as well as gluten) as well as getting the probiotics and vitamins/minerals my body needs I feel like I'm on the road to recovery! An educational read about how our digestive system works, the symptoms you are having and what the most likely causes of irritation are, as well as many natural remedies to try to alleviate your symptoms. Worth checking it out if you are looking to feel better, have more energy and enjoy life to it's fullest! "Clean-Expanded" by A. Junger also has great information and a detailed cleanse program and recipes to follow, if you are looking for a detailed plan to follow along with recipe ideas. The two books combined have given me the info to heal thyself!!

Good for heartburn
I usually don't write reviews on Amazon unless I have extreme satisfaction from my purchase. Well this is one of them. I used to get bad heartburn frequently and was taking proton-pump inhibitors, which I felt were not alleviating the problem but maybe making it worse. I bought this book and learned a bit about the digestive system and the bacteria involved in helping us digest. Knowing that I have H. pylori which was the main cause of my heartburn, I decided to take the approach of promoting the good bacteria in my system. Since then I've done this, and barely ever get acid reflux. The only times I will get it is when I deviate to eating bad foods for a prolonged amount of time.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS FOREVER
I HAVE BEEN UNDER A GASTROINTEROLGIST CARE FOR THE PAST 6 YEARS FOR IBS AND DIVITICULITIS. EVEN THOUGH I WAS EATING HEALTHY I WAS STILL HAVING SERIOUS BOUTS OF ONE OR BOTH DISEASES. SOME SO SEVERE THAT I'D HAVE TO GO TO THE ER AND/OR MISS WORK. AFTER READING THIS "AMAZING" BOOK I FOUND THAT BECAUSE MY BOWELS WEREN'T AS REGULAR AS WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, BACTERIA WAS BUILDING UP IN MY COLON AND CAUSING THE ABOVE DISEASES TO ATTACK MY SYSTEM. YOU WOULD THING MY DOCTOR MIGHT HAVE MENTIONED ALL OF THIS TO ME INSTEAD OF CONSTANTLY GIVING ME ANTIBIOTICS ON A REGULAR BASIS. THIS BOOK WENT RIGHT TO THE ROOT OF MY PROBLEMS, GAVE ME HEALTHY SOLUTIONS SUCH AS VITAMINES, MINERALS AND OTHER SUGGESTIONS THAT WOULD, AND DID CORRECT MY PROBLEMS, AND IN GENERAL SET ME ON THE ROAD TO GETTING MY HEALTH BACK. I AM NOW LIVING A NORMAL LIFE USING THE GUIDELINES SET IN THE BOOK, FOLLOWING THE DAILY REGIMENT SUGGEST WITH REGARD TO SUPPLEMENTS, EXERCISE AND DIET, AND I HAVEN'T FELT THIS GOOD IN SEVERAL YEARS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO EVERYONE FOR ANY TYPE OF HEALTH ISSUE (IT GOES INTO ALMOST EVERY TYPE OF DISEASE THAT SO MANY PEOPLE SUFFER WITH FROM ASTHMA, HEART CONDITIONS, LUNGS, STOMACH ETC). IT'S VERY WELL WRITTEN AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND. I CALL IT MY "HEALTH BIBLE" AND HAVE SEVERAL FRIENDS WHO AFTER HAVING LOOKED AT MY EDITION, ORDERED ONE FOR THEMSELVES. I CAN'T RECOMMEND THIS BOOK HIGHLY ENOUGH.........IT'S CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER FOR THE BETTER!!!

Easy to read and information you can use
I thought I knew a lot about IBS and gut issues until I read this book and received a much-needed update. The checklists are comprehensive and will allow you to proceed through the book by selecting pertinent chapters and skipping over the ones that do not apply at this time. Since I was dealing with candidia, most of the book applied to my situation and I was able to quickly able to integrate it into the diet protocol I am using and found the approach complimentary to my current efforts. What was not always explained well in the diet protocol was usually explained with much satisfaction in Lipski's book.

the cd is the old edition not the new!!!
The cd was listed under the new edition of the book so I didnโt realize I was ordering the old edition. I was disappointed when my order arrived. Amazon should list the cd in a different area. The book itself is wonderful!

Genuine 5-star book for digestive problems
This is the best book out there on overall gastrointestinal problems. My original book was literally falling apart, & every word had been hi-lighted to the point it wasn't much use. I was delighted to see that it has been expanded & updated. I owe the author a debt of gratitude because I was able to figure out what was wrong w/my wife several years ago when the docs were clueless. It offers therapeutic ideas as well as diagnostic, most of which are OTC. Unfortunately, I have >1000 health books, & this one ranks in my top 10. Essential for chronic, problematic, or undiagnosed digestive problems, & highly recommended.

Digestive Wellness in Detail
I got this book from the library which I mostly do before purchasing. This book is really helpful, goes into detail on how to understand what is happening in the Gut and what needs to be done to improve health. A friend of mine told me she is not sensitive to gluten in bread. However when I read her the problems she has been having with her mouth now she is not so sure.

It could work
This book is a collection of things to do for every ailment that work for some people. So they could work for you or not. It is interesting but I expected much more (on the line of Gut Reaction). In any case there are some chapters interesting.
