Dr Infrared Heater DR-968 Portable Space Heater, 1500-Watt, Cherry

I originally bought this for my basement because it’s always the coldest part of my house. I wasn’t expecting miracles from a portable heater. I really just wanted something that would make it comfortable without having to crank up the heat for the entire house. Well, this thing surprised me. I can run it in the basement and after it’s been going for a while, you’re not just feeling heat when you’re standing in front of it. The actual room gets warmer. That’s the biggest difference I’ve noticed compared to some of the smaller space heaters I’ve owned. I also like being able to keep the rest of the house at a lower temperature when I’m downstairs. Why heat the entire house several degrees warmer just because I’m spending a few hours in the basement? I’d rather heat the space I’m actually using. And for the amount of heat it puts out, it’s pretty quiet. I watch TV downstairs with it running and it doesn’t bother me at all. One thing I would tell anyone buying it: give it some time. If you turn it on and stand in front of it expecting a blast furnace, you’re missing the point. I’ve had better results letting it run, cycle on and off, and maintain the temperature of the room. That’s where it really does its job. Also, this is a 1500-watt heater. I personally wouldn’t run something pulling that much power through an extension cord or questionable old outlet. Mine goes directly into the wall. For my basement, it has been fantastic. It’s one of those purchases where I bought it to solve a very specific problem and it ended up working considerably better than I expected. If you have a cold basement or another room that never seems to stay as warm as the rest of your house, this is exactly the type of situation where I think this heater earns its money.

I bought an original older model over 4 years ago. We live in a "drafty" old farm house with modest to poor insullation. The house is about 1400 SF. The reason I bought it was because I have LP Gas heat, and LP Gas is more than twice to three times the cost of natural gas. Now, Normally my LP heating bill runs around $3,000 per year. Its horrible. I also have NIPSCO Electric, and they are high also. So I bought the little Dr heater., Plugged it in in my 600 SF living room and it did the trick. Normally when the temps are all the way down to 20 degrees outdoors, it provided plenty of heat for that sized room. Now.. I ran my little Dr. heater full blast, constantly, 24/7 November through March, and 50% of the time Mid Sept, through Oct, and again in April. So, all in all it ran about 4,440 hours per year.. for 4 1/2 heating years.. THATS 19,980 hours without a hitch or any problems.. then just today, the IR heating element finally went out. So off to the trash it goes.. and I have a new one from Amazon on the way. Do the cost analysis: I paid $119 for it and got 12,980 hours of great service out of it. Thats a cost to me of $0.0059 cents per hour for every hour I used it.. and though it cost me about $36 per month for the electricity to operate it.. it saved me about $1,300 PER YEAR in LP Gas costs for each year I used it.. so there's a $5,850.00 savings over that time period in LP GAS expense. Its a pretty good trade off if you ask me. Cost me about $36 bucks more for the electricty to operate it, but saved me aroundn $260 or more per month in LP gas charges... AND it saved me a little in electric also because my furnace blower motor wasn't running near as much.. and those puppies can pull some amps too. Oh.... two years before I ordered my cheap little original Dr. Heater .. I bought two "I-Heaters" at a cost of about $350 each. I gotta tell you.. the little Dr. Heater put out TWICE the heat the 1500 Watt I-Heaters put out. The I-Heaters were a lot more expensive and they are noisy as hell. They sould like a mini grain dryer running in the room. The Dr. Heater is quiet as heck in comparison. So here's my advice: If you have LP gas for heating then these WILL save you a lot of money in your gas expenses. Not as much savings if you burn Natural Gas... but depending on your rate, they can save you some good bucks there also, especially if you have an older furnace. Just get out your gas bills, your electric bills, and do some comparisons for yourself. Also, if you live in a home with rooms you do not NEED to heat above, say 50 degrees or so, because you use them, you can also just close the doors, and use the little heaters in areas you want warm. I have two bedrooms closed off, because we never use them, I set my furnace thermostadt at about 65 degrees, and heat our living room, Kitchen, Bathroom and bedroom with two Dr. Heaters. Works for us. Saves us lotsa bucks, and we stay comfortable up here in cold old N.W. Indiana in our drafty ole farm house. One more thing: Don't let all the other higher priced manufacturers fool you.. they are ALL MADE IN CHINA. Deal with it. The Dr. Heater is just one of the best little heaters of the bunch and the lowest in price. 6 of my retired friends saw mine.. and ordered some for themselves too. They are all very happy with this little heater and not one of us have a complaint about them. Yeah.. my old original Dr. Heater finally died.. but my God.. I worked it to death.. for 4 1/2 years... and it earned a good burial. Find ANYTHING that works that hard for that long and won't eventually just give out. Well worth $119 bucks as far as I am concerned.

Hey folks I live in a 28-foot RV or / travel trailer right now I am surrounded by a foot and a half of snow the outside temperature is about 32 degrees or a little less and right now I'm sitting comfortably and my trailer at a room temperature of 60°. Also I have 13 single pane windows that I've covered in a insulated styrofoam if you will like you would find on the inside of a roll up garage door and I have what they call the Northwest package but it doesn't bring my insulation rating down below freezing or any by freezing time without prep you'd be out of luck but here's a single heater running on high that goes off and on keeping the room warm and it compensates for the use of my propane which is crippling my SSI so all those pictures you saw the overheated wall plugs and such those are usually caused by a loose-fitting wall plugs you know that are overused or by having the machine cranked up 24/7 non-stop on 80° or something trying to compensate for heating room too big or two little insulated but like I said I have a Northwest package Forest River 28 ft 2000 travel trailer that I live in year round and other than the skirting and the slide insulation on the Windows my house is at 60° and it's below freezing outside if this is helpful I hope it is I'm sorry about the issues I saw with the wall plugs if you don't give the machine an opportunity to shut off every once in awhile it's going to burn out anything specially when you're drawing 1500 watts so anyway I hope this is helpful and I'm so pleased with it that I'm buying a second one and I'm going to put it in the front half of the trailer run them both on low and probably be running around in here at 70 degrees all winter long anyway thank you for the product I'm very pleased with it............ A little update I got my second heater woke up this morning they were both set on 65° during the night on low when I woke up this morning it's 12° outside and it's 61 degrees indoors so I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of these if you're in my kind of situation with a little prep they do great work if you have a really good insulated room don't sweat it it's going to heat it as long as it doesn't exceed it's square footage rating you know if it's good for a thousand square feet you're not going to eat 1500 so anyway no hot burned up plugs because I'm allowing the heater to shut off every once in awhile which means you're not exceeding its ability to heat the room if it stays running 24/7 it's going to melt it down that's for sure but anyway the second one work just like I thought it would I spent all day in the trailer in the low '70s because of the second heat so don't hesitate if you need one,.............,......,. Well here's the third update it got down to three degrees outside and two of these heaters set on low keeps my interior temperature between 65 and 67 degrees on low or Eco one on eco and one on low and it's keeping my trailer very warm and it doesn't allow for any plug meltdowns or anything because I don't let him run on high continuously so all I can say guys is that this was a life changer for me I went from 4 propane bottles that are rated at 30 lb I think. I used to go through four a month I've gone through three in two months this time around with these two heaters running all day alI I can say is the electricity is cheaper than the propane where I'm at propane is over $5 a gallon I guess is how you would refer to it but we're talking to fill one bottle we're talking 35 almost 40 bucks so if you do the math you can see I'm coming out smelling like a rose using these heaters As part of this major storm it's gotten to 12 minus up here and for the first time in 3 weeks I've had to turn off the heater a little bit to help back up these heaters at 12 - the heaters were running at 68° and the trailer was at 51°. So I turned up the propane heater for a little bit the floor furnace to bring it back up to 60° and it only came on four or five times during the day with these heaters running which is great for me considering I was doing four 30 gallon tanks a month and I've only gone through three and almost two and a half months so I say it's a win-win now don't get me wrong I'm not sitting around in my Bermuda shorts or anything but I'm living in a 20-year-old travel RV trailer 28 ft long with what they call the Forest River package which gave me a built-in furnace and an air conditioner but other than that I have some foam foil covered insulation for the windows and I just leave enough of the window exposed to see out of it and I've got my septic tank and water area wrapped and I've got some heat lamps going under there to keep it above zero it seems to be working great of course it works better when it's in the tens and twenties but at least I know that for a short period of time this will work at even 15 below thank you for the ramble it's December 24th or 23rd somewhere in there 2022 so you guys know this is up to date anyway I hope this guy this helps you know if I had a third circuit in my trailer I put a third one in here and I probably wouldn't have to use propane at all anyway I hope this helps .- 17 is the limit for heating without a lot of help with propane .

For the first time in my life I'm living in a house that runs off oil heat. As some background, my wife and I are from Arizona and now that we live in Connecticut we like to keep our house warmer than most since we are complete wusses when it comes to the cold. When I walked down into the basement and realized that we had burned through almost 200 gallons of gas in less than 2 months I nearly had a panic attack (our house is only 1400 square feet). I knew something had to change and I'd rather not wear 3 sweaters in order to stay comfortable while working from home. After some research, I decided to roll the dice on Dr. Heater and so far it is working almost as well as I could have hoped. Good stuff: Does a good job at maintaining a 600ish square foot section of my house so that I use my oil heat to bring the house up to a comfortable temp after kicking it down at night. Does a great job at warming up my 300 square foot kitchen all by itself. Timer works which is nice to have. Remote works which is nice if that feature is important to you. Only increased my electric bill by 20-30 bucks each month in the two months I've used it. Well worth it when compared to the price of oil. Bad stuff: A quote from the product description: "The Dr. HeaterTM advanced dual heating systems increase the heat transfer rate, and evenly heats your space up to 1,000 square feet, fast." .... BULL CRAP! Like I said above, it warms up my kitchen nicely but the other room that I work in it couldn't warm it up if I gave it all day (I've tried). It'll greatly help maintain a room's temperature of this size but if it is 30 degrees outside then this thing doesn't have a prayer. Wood is cheap, already cracked a little, not sure how because it was in good condition when it shipped here. Internal Thermometer seems to not be accurate on my unit. This may just be a lemon but it thinks a room is much warmer than it is after the unit has been on for a while. I think the unit must begin to affect the thermometer internally as well after a while which is fairly understandable. Overall I'm decently pleased with the unit. I wish it could warm up my 800 square foot room but I'm happy that it is saving me money. On a side note, the price on Amazon is good so you are in the right place to buy this guy. Thanks for reading and I hope you stay warm! *Random information*, I have pocket doors in every room of the house so I can completely close off my kitchen, living room, office, etc. so I think that is an advantage when trying to heat my rooms.

We have a couple of Eden Pures, and decided to purchase one more. We found this one on Amazon and did some research on them. It sounded like they were pretty much the same type of heater as the eden pures, with a better price, so we purchased one.. It does work really well, although, I really can't figure out how all the different buttons work.. But as far as turning it on and having it run, it's great. It gets a lot hotter than the eden pures, and unfortunately, when we got our first electric bill after using it daily for a month, the bill had gone up significantly. It had a really strong odor when we first got it, which remained for a few days.. I was afraid it was a permanent smell, but it did start to fade eventually and is now gone. I guess I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone... I think the eden pures are probably the better choice. UPDATE: It's been 3 years or so since we purchased this unit. Since then, we've had the bulbs go out of 2 of our Eden Pures, which would cost over $100 for each unit to replace, IF we could find someone to replace them (we can't)... Considering this heater costs less than the price of new bulbs for the Eden Pures, it sheds a new light on this unit. I have started using this to heat my sewing room, which doesn't have another heat source since we no longer use our propane furnace. This unit heats up the back end of our house in no time and keeps it warm. I have since discovered that this is actually a ceramic heater with an infrared bulb, so the description is not completely accurate, which bothered me when I found out. But I have to admit, it puts out a great amount of heat and really does do a great job.. As for the electricity, we had blamed this unit for a spike in our electric bill, so we had started using it sparingly, only on really bitter cold days.. But since the eden pure I was using in my sewing room quit working, I've started using this one and our electric bill actually went down (there are other reasons, too.. We had a pellet stove installed in the main part of the house).. But my point, we blamed the spike on this unit, but now don't think it was really the culprit.. If we need another heater, we'll probably consider another one of these.. But I do think the sellers should change their description so that customers understand this is not just an infrared heater, but actually a ceramic heater, too... I guess on the plus side, if the infrared bulb blows on these units, the ceramic heater will still operate and produce heat, where with an eden pure, if you blow just one of the bulbs (they house 4 or 6), the unit will blow out cold air rather than heat.. You can change an eden pure bulbs yourself, if you can figure it out, but the bulbs still cost $100 for the set... Crazy considering each unit costs over $300 to begin with. In a comparison, for long term use, this heater wins over the eden pures. Costs less initially and will last longer... Winter of 2015: We are now heating with a pellet stove but the master bathroom stays a little chilly. Since we were having temps as low as 39 below in February, we decided to buy another one of these heaters to use in that bathroom. It's worked well and kept the bathroom nice and comfortable. They're easy to roll around if you want to move from one location to another, and the 1st one we purchased has outlasted the Eden Pures we had, at a much better price. I do have to question why Amazon keeps changing the price however. We bought our 2nd one for $89 and before we even received it, Amazon had raised the price to $129, where it's still at... Why the huge jump in price? $40 seems excessive for a price increase to me.

We bought this heater to use in our living room and kitchen/dining area. We have all baseboard heat and our heating bills are usually through the roof. This heater does a good job and we are very happy, but there are a few things to point out. 1. It is a smaller heater than you might expect. It is half the price of an eden pure...but be advised that it's about half the size of the eden pure my parents have. That said, I think I'd rather have two of these than one eden pure that way I can space them out more. 2. This thing won't heat a 1000 sq/ft area. We use it in a 250-300 sq/ft living room that has an opening to our kitchen dining room that is about 250 sq/ft. It will heat up the room and maintain when it is as cold as the 20's outside...colder than that and we need to use our baseboard w/ this heater to get it up to temp (in about 10 minutes mind you)...and then this heater will do a great job of maintaining that heat on it's own. We did this down to about 4-5 degrees(F) outside and it worked great. 3. Haven't got a clue on heating bill, but it does draw some serious current. I have blown our breaker more than once by using this heater and our vacuum on the same outlet (always forget the heater is on...see 4) 4. Heater is very quiet and you won't even realize the thing is on except for seeing the orange glow back inside of the heater. 5. The wheels are awesome. We usually heat the living room for a few hours, then wheel it into the kitchen dining room for 20 minutes, then back for a couple hours.....super easy to do as you walk by and keeps both rooms at a comfy 71-74 degrees. Bottom line is it is a great heater. It is drawing a lot of current but probably not more than 2 baseboard heaters that we virtually don't use now.....which have their own breaker each. I'd recommend it highly as it really gives you the cozy feeling that you don't get with those heaters that heat the air....compared to this one that heats you and the objects in the room. You can really tell the difference.

I wanted to leave a review for this heater because I think that it is really good. So my story is I have gas lines break and have not been able to get them repaired at has gotten cold and I need something to use I am a single mom so I can't afford to just get a whole new heater system plus I've tried looking into it and have been told that my house doesn't have enough electricity coming into it anyway it's a whole long story and has been a whole entire mess with this process so basically I have a 986 square foot home it is an older home and I use a space heaters as my main source of heat. So I have gone through trying different kinds I really like this Dr infrared space heater the small cabinet design is great my cats love getting on it but also I checked the plug daily to make sure it's not getting too hot or anything it is never warm to the touch even when the temperatures are down to the 20s or below this works great for heating my home I'm actually using my other space heaters left and I have also ordered a new one of these to replace my back fireplace heater because it's a really old one and it just works too hard. Another great thing about this heater is whenever you turn it on it's got Eco high or low mode I keep mine on eco mode and is set for 68 being the Eco Mode I actually have mine turned down to 64 and it keeps it more than warm enough in here. So basically I just wanted to say that I ordered this heater due to all the reviews on it and the fact that when you scroll down all of the little green check marks were checked as far as how good the product is so that's what made me get this heater and I like it so much that I am ordering a second one. I think I also forgot to mention that it runs very quietly there's no loud kick on or kick off with it

You've just got to know how it works to get really great results, see below for what I found works best. I bought this heater during the Black Friday sales so I got a good discount and I was happy it arrived safe and sound. It was well packed and works as expected. After seeing some of the less than positive reviews I decided to do some testing to see how many watts this thing really pulls, and how well it really works. My results were interesting and these are anecdotal being that I only tested my heater and did not do a sample tests across a large batch but this is what I saw: The difference between High and Low is between ~1050 Watts and ~1470 Watts or so (there is fluctuation). This seems more or less in line with what the manufacturer claims, so it really is what they say it is. How to get it to work great: Pro-Tips 1. First make sure you have a thick enough extension cord if you're using one because it will pull almost 13 amps full out (U.S. Power grid) and do not overload the outlet/receptacle that you plug it into. Many receptacles in older homes are 15 amp and you can burn them up if you put too much on a single one. Newer homes have 20 amp receptacles so you have more forgiveness, but always, safety first. 2. To get this thing to work as it should, aim it at yourself. Really. No obstructions. None. Not a piece of paper, the cat, the dog, random extended family children coming to visit, NOTHING. This is infrared heat. How that works is that the heater is emitting infrared which heats up things in its path (you, or the couch, or whatever). This is not like a radiator type heater that uses convection and radiant type heating or a forced air heater that blows hot air into a room. You're not going to feel hot air blowing out of this thing or emanating from it in the same way as other heaters. Sit in front of it for a little while and you'll see, it works! You'll be warm and toasty and room won't be dry as a bone. 3. The thermostat is horrible. I almost deducted a star because of this but for me, I can control my heat myself, I don't need a thermostat. First the thermostat is located inside the cabinet, so what did I do? Of course, I relocated it outside. Problem fixed right? Nope, its so poorly calibrated it is several degrees off so I said to heck with it and stopped using it in that manner. Final Pro-Tip: Now that you know how to use it, try it on low. You'd be surprised how well low actually works when it's aimed at you. It also warms you up slowly and more comfortably in my opinion. This has been great for my Toy Hauler and RV and it saves you up to 30% power usage!

amazing heater with an amazing heat output. no doubt way more heat output than a normal ceramic heater of same watts power ... certainly more heat output than an oil-filled heater of same watts power .... probably more heat output than a classic wall-mounted convector of same watts power. the thermostat and meter are ultra precise but only in fahrenheit. normally it would be a very good replacement for main heating solution but in reality not cause this heater have 1 BIG flaw ... if you unplug it or if there is a power lost you must re-set the heat mode and temp and it will never re-start by itself, i really dont like it. They probably did it as security purpose but it was a very bad idea from them cause this extra "security" is simply useless and thats really annoying to dont have memory for mode and temp and cannot resume when power is back. Another little problem is the fan is very powefull but make some little vibrations that can be annoying if you use it in your bedroom when you sleep. Even with these big and little problems i have no choice to give it 5 stars cause this is a very good quality build heater with a fantastic heat output. i just bought and received a second unit and it work perfectly as the first one.

Debo aclarar que fue enviado en tiempo record a Mexico DF (2 días hábiles) y definitivamente está por encima de mis expectativas. Abajo explico lo bueno, lo malo, y mi conclusion. ** Lo bueno ** -Muy rápido para calentar habitaciones grandes, justo luego de encenderlo se puede empezar a sentir calor, pero debes estar frente a él -Muy silencioso, realmente no se siente, ideal si lo quieres usar mientras te quedas dormido o si eres muy sensible -La estructura es muy sólido, el acabado es en madera, y realmente es muy robusto y elegante, ademas que las ruedas hacen facil su transporte de un lugar a otro -No reseca el aire, esta fue la principal razon de comprarlo, pues con niños en casa para evitar problemas respiratorios era un punto relevante. luego de usarlo puedo decir que el cambio en el aire es imperceptible, ni en la piel, ni en los ojos, tampoco en las vias respiratorias. ** Lo Malo ** -La temperatura no se muestra en grados Celcius, otros calefactores puedes cambiarles la escala para mostrarlo en F o en C, este no -Las rejillas se calientan bastante, si tienes niños en casa, debes tener cuidado que no toquen las rejillas mientras esta en operación ** En conclusion ** Definitivamente lo volveria a comprar y lo recomiendo, luego de un mes de uso siento que ha sido la mejor opcion posible, antes tuve algunos ceramicos, de aceite, etc. pero este ha sido el mejor de todos por desempeño, en especial en habitaciones amplias (en mi caso de 40 metros cuadrados), su sistema hibrido que no reseca el ambiente, es fabuloso, la funcion de termostato y timer son realmente utiles, la solidez en su acabado, sumado a los componentes de seguridad lo hacen es un gran producto.

I have an open concept +1000sqf space I'm trying to compliment while trying to lower my nat. gas bill. On it's own, it won't heat the space unless you're okay with warming the person nearest and in front of the heater. However, with my nat. gas thermostat lowered to 18C, this heater does a great job doing the rest to make the large room very comfortable. This time last year, at our local rates, it was costing me close to $600 per month to heat this house. My last two bills averaged $350 and it's been between -44C and -10C for most of that time. There have been rebates for energy that I have yet to factor in but there is a noticeable difference in room temperature when this heater is running. When I leave the house, I turn the heater off but I still allow the nat. gas furnace to run at 18C so when I get home, I do notice the difference in room temperature when the heater has been off for a while. I highly recommend.

Es por mucho una de las compras que más he pensado por todo los riesgos que tienen otros calentadores. Tenemos con él mes y medio, y es muy fácil de usar (lo opera realmente gente más grande como mis abuelos o papás), confiable, mi gato no estornuda, ni se asusta con el ruido PORQUE NO HAY RUIDO, calienta súper bien área chicas o medianas y su sistema automático de temperatura es muy útil para no sobrecalentar el área. Realmente el mayor ganador de mi corazón, fue Amazon Prime que paso de tardar 6 días hábiles a traerlo a la CDMX, a 2 días desde Las Vegas.
