Great Product, definitely works! Don’t be scared by the bad reviews written by people who can’t figure out how to set it up.
First of all, thanks D-Link customer service ID: AR004238 for remotely setting up the last few process for me. The case #: C6560442. I will skip the things that already mentioned by most reviews. For people concern about the bad reviews: 1. Set Up: It’s tedious, but by no means difficult. I also believe that some bugs have already been fixed recently by updating the firmware. ---Customer Service help u set up: If u are not patient enough or have almost none understanding about any tech knowledge, call customer service. They are very helpful, and it is truly 24/7. I called them at 2AM and within 10 mins got someone to help me. They can remotely set up the entire thing for you. ---Do it by yourself (some common problems): •User Manual: Please download this which is in the same page as the set up wizard. It contains much more details than the Quick Guide included in the package. •Wireless strength: I would say this is one area that I am not very satisfied with. If you happen to need to place it in somewhere the wireless signal is not so strong, u might not be able to detect the device. I believe this is one of the reasons why so many people complain about this device didn’t work. I ended up using the wired connection. (Power line) •Browsers: I use google chrome. Downloading VCL media player, JAVA, (they all show up there when u enter the page) and I can see the live video now. Still can’t view the video clips. But I just download the video clips in the camera’s IP address page. So it’s no big deal. •SD Card: Please go to “SD Management” and “format SD Card” before u setup other things. Otherwise your SD card might not be recognized therefore you can’t do other settings. 2.Advanced Settings you might want to use---Setup to email you snapshots and short video clips: •Though SD card will record video clip and snapshots, it is highly recommended that you set it to send them to you also via emails. First, u can get the alerts when sth is HAPPENING. Also, some reviews mentioned they were worried about what if the thief took the SD card. Well, that’s the answer. •U don’t need to buy this SD card version and save money if all you need is short video clips when motions are detected. These video clips and snapshots can be sent to you via email which is enough for some people’s need. •How to set it up: Please read review By Jonathan M on September 11, 2014: "The D-Link942-L is the best D-Link camera right now." It lists all the details you need to know about how to set this part. One more thing: For different options in “Use SSL-TLS”, u need to use different “Port”. ( Non->25; SSL->465; StrtTLS->587 ) Actually this is the only part I found I could not figure out by myself and asked customer service for help. They quickly pointed out the issue and set it for me. 3.Conclusion: Great product, though the wireless connectivity performance can be improved. You can view live video through smartphones by downloading their apps. It works perfectly in my iphone 4s, but frozen a lot in iPad mini, not sure if it’s just my tablet though. Set up is somewhat time-consuming. But I don’t think it’s fair to give product low ratings because of this. As I mentioned above, the failure to set it up could be infected by different factors: ur own network situation, different operating systems. But it’s not the product itself. Please Call Customer Service when u can’t figure out by urself. It doesn’t hurt! You can always return it if it doesn’t work out.

Good quality stills and video for the money
Bought this to replace a 5-year old Trendnet webcam. So far, I like it. I put an old 4GB SD card in it for storing pictures and video. I think it's going to be able to store a whole year on that card! Of course, it depends on how busy the monitored area is, but on my front porch, it records 5-10 events a day. The motion detection function works very well and the daytime image quality is good. I have it pointed out a window and it works well during daylight hours. Night is another story. Once it flips to night mode, it is pretty useless. It might be much better if it were not behind glass, so I did not reduce my rating for this situation. It also is fixed, so cannot be used to pan across an area. I have it set up to email me motion-detection photos and that function also works well. It can also email video if you want. I just connect to it to watch the video clips. There is also the capability to have it connected via the D-Link cloud. I have not set that up yet. Overall, for what it is and its cost, I think it's pretty good. I recommend it.

Good Product
I gave this camera 5 stars because of how well it works after you get it up, however getting it up was not simple in my case. I have included here, everything I ran into, in hopes it will assist others during the more complex installs. I think the video shows just pressing two buttons, and that was not my experience at all. Technical: My system - Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 - Windows7 64 bit - Dell XPS i7 desktop - Linksys Cisco Wireless Router WRT110 - DCS-942L Camera Installation Wizard: The major problem I had was after installation of the local software using the wizard, there was no picture when accessed inside the LAN. I spent an hour or so trying to cipher it on my own, then the troubleshooting section was no help at all. I finally had to go back to the d-link site and read very carefully at the bottom of the DCS-942L downloads, where you first download the wizard. There is a note about using microsoft's latest browser [Internet Explorer 11] and a promise they were going to fix this in December of 2013, which apparently they have not. If you are trying to install it fast you may miss this very important note. A rather complex fix in the browser pushing [alt T], and then [shift b] then saving the site as "compatible." Then within minutes I finally had a picture. Firmware and added downloads after the installation: I also had to upload new firmware! The program also uses java script, and one other DLL that must be loaded as an "add on" after the camera is accessed inside the LAN, well after setup. So more time for me to get it working then expected from the reviews. Once up, I was very impressed. The SD recording worked great, as did the IR and video motion triggers for recording. Wireless: You have to install from a LAN cable at first, then moving from the initial wired config to the wireless config, required a bit of time also, I suppose because I do not use WEP, but use a mac filter for security on my wireless LAN. I ended up giving the camera a static IP address outside of the DHCP range of my cisco router, and then discovered the internet accessed picture stopped working on the D-Link Site. Solution was to give the static IP address the DNS addresses also, which I did not know right off. Without the DNS addresses, the camera cannot access the internet for remote viewing, although it will work fine locally within your LAN. These DNS addresses can be found in the Windows7 Network setup of your PC, or in the Router. Site Certificate: I should mention also, the "HTTPS certificate" is not recognized as valid by Microsoft's Internet Explorer, so every time I access the camera from inside my LAN I first get a screen saying the certificate is not a trusted site, then I have to press on open this site anyway selection. I do not know, as of yet, how to get rid of this annoying screen. The certificate is from TWA I believe Taiwan. There is a certificate generator in the software, but that will be another challenge I suppose. Accessing the camera remotely from the d-link site does not have this problem. Configuration Backup and Reset Problem: After I had all the software fixes in place, and everything working, I copied the configuration file to my PC, and the onboard http management software is great in that respect. Then after I experimented with the setup and messed things up again, it was easy to get back to a working unit quickly by uploading it from the PC, after a reset operation. Download the two pdf manuals for the unit and look at the "pictures" to locate the reset button. You have to use a small wire or paperclip end to reach through the tiny hole and press it. I had trouble finding it, and got it confused with the larger square button which is the WEP button, which cost me a few hours of tinkering. The wizard is not clear on this either, you have to look through both pdf documents in the download section. Access: I could then access the camera by it's IP address inside my network from my Windows7 IE explorer 11. Remotely on the internet you access the D-Link site with an account you set up during the initial wizard setup. I did both simultaneously and the delay was about the same. A very slight delay between moving my arm across the camera and the image on the screen. SD Chip: I ordered 32G chips, not sure if they should have been 16G, but they seem to work fine. You use the browser to access the camera from inside your LAN, and you can format the SD, and then monitor and manage it as well. From outside on the internet access to the chips memory storage is rather slow, so I may consider an FTP server down the road. I ran for about 8 hours and then pulled the chip out, inserted in the adapter and then into my PC and the files were all there dated and played fine in mp4 format. So access by date and time is a breeze. This is a real plus for a surveillance system! Comments: For my application, all the software problems had fixes, but they were not all that easy to locate. Likely a better installation wizard, an improvement I would desire for such a good product, with better notes in the Wizard. The troubleshooting section is also lacking for Windows7 application, it only gave me notes for Windows8 I think, and they did not apply to me. A good Wizard would grab the OS from the PC, and then offer all the important notes during the setup phase, or at least at the end of the setup phase, rather then hide them in the wizard download section at the very bottom. Who looks for notes at that phase of the installation? All in all this is a great value for what you get, and if you are network savvy you will have it working as expected, even on a cisco router, with Internet Explorer 11. Not using it with the new D-Link routers, I was a bit worried when I ordered it. I look forwards to working with this camera now as time progresses, but from what I see, the picture quality is pretty nice, and all the advertised functions work great! Now after my learning curve, I would order another one in a heart beat.

Consigliatissima!

This model is particularly better than DCS 932. Love the motion detection feature great for security and as a baby monitor.

There seems to be 2 different packages on the market. One with an installation CD and one without. Mine came without an installation CD. I downloaded the installation software from [...]. The setup was easy by following the on screen wizard. Within 15-20 minutes my camera was up running. Once my camera was on line, I opened in camera setup menu and changed or modified the default settings to my needs, such as DHCP assigned IP address to static IP address, SD recording settings, motion detection settings, email notification settings, etc. Everything is working well. As long as you have an internet access, monitoring from outside of your home is easy through[...]. I also downloaded a firmware update and D-ViewCam software through [...] and installed them. With D-ViewCam, I can record video onto USB hard drive on PC as well as SD memory card which is inside of a camera. (In case someone walks away with the camera, I still have the recording.) SD memory card provides a video playback function through [...] Because I liked the camera so much, I bought 2 more cameras, one from Amazon and another from different vendor when Amazon increased the price. My only complaint about this camera is the plastic stand which does not attach well to camera itself.

Mi chiedevo perchè manca il microfono o altoparlante quando c'è l'attivazione e si può essere attivato sia dal telefono che dall'i-pad ?

Very easy to setup and a very useful product. I can watch my premises from anywhere now. Only issue is that the Dlink viewer plugin works only with IE. Not compatible with Chrome. But overall a good product.
