I like it a lot, wish the snuffing cap were metal. So far, so good.

The lamp works as expected. I had a little challenge getting the wick to fit through the hole in the ceramic cap but managed to do so, but I think that is normal.

Worked for sealing the wraps on a fly rod. Other uses unknown.

The funnel is nice and big so filling was easy. I am using denatured alcohol for fuel. The cap is plastic. To extinguish the flame I put the cap on then took it off within half a second. It extinguished the flame. I made sure the ceramic insert cooled completely before putting the cap back on. The cap, when pushed down all of the way, might reduce the amount of evaporation of the fuel but it provides no seal to keep the liquid fuel from leaking out if the lamp tips over. The ceramic insert to hold the wick is a very loose fit and provides no seat at all. At first I could not see the ceramic insert when I unboxed the lamp and thought something was missing. I eventually found the insert in its small bubble wrap pouch. The wick took a bit of effort to push through the ceramic insert. I eventually got it close to the top then uses some needle nosed tweezers to pull it through all of the way. There is no way to adjust the wick or flame once the lamp is burning. The wick lit OK once it had soaked up the fuel. It burned for the few minutes I used to check out the performance. Probably worth the $10 I payed but it really needs a seal between the glass reservoir and the ceramic insert, and a metal cap. Why would anyone think that a thin plastic cap was a good idea for an open flame lamp?

I love this little lamp. Its not only cheap to buy, but to use also. Its very fuel efficient for this type of burner, plus Ive been using the same wick for almost a year. I thought the plastic cap it came with was a safety concern at first, but soon realized it works better than the old metal caps these type of burners usually come with.

The design is basic, and looks fine, like it should work. But even with 75% isopropyl, it won't stay lit for more than a minute. It wicks just fine, but just won't stay lit. We have adjusted the wick, cut it, shaped it, everything I can think of. I've used alcohol burners before that worked great, and wanted another one that I could use to teach kids how to shape flint glass. But this thing just WON'T stay lit!! I assume it's the wick somehow. The photos showed a wick with a wire mesh (to hold a shape) but mine didn't have that, just cotton wicks. They should work fine, but they don't. Doesn't matter if I empty it and pour fresh alcohol into it, or if I put the cap on tight and come back to it later. I get orange flame for a few seconds, and then---snuffs itself out. I'm disappointed, but I had it a month before I tried using it. No refund for me. I have not tried 95% ethanol (Everclear is EXPENSIVE) or 99% isopropyl alcohol (which is in SHORT/non-existent supply nowadays), but when I used these as a young buck, 70% was all that was available--and they worked great. This one, for whatever reason, just DOESN'T.

I got this to do some low-temperature heating of some epoxy resin coatings. I didn’t want soot or excessive heat. So far, using 99.9% methanol (methyl hydrate) it has worked as desired. I am led to believe that more soot is produced by ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, but haven’t tried it yet.
