StewMac watch out - My Amazon Review
The Mohawk Classic Instrument Lacquer, Clear Gloss (M610-1406) is an outstanding product that delivers a superior finish at a more affordable price than other top-tier lacquers. It provides a deep, glossy shine that enhances the natural beauty of your guitar while offering exceptional protection. The nitrocellulose formula allows the wood to breathe, improving the instrument’s resonance and tonal qualities. What really stands out about this lacquer is the quality-to-price ratio. It offers professional-level performance—comparable or even better than much pricier finishes. Application is smooth, it dries quickly, and the resulting finish is hard and durable, making it perfect for both new builds and refinishing projects. Pros: Superior quality finish with a clear, glossy shine Quick drying and easy to apply Provides a durable, protective coat that enhances the guitar's tone Perfect for refinishing or building guitars and instruments Cons: Strong odor – Use in a well-ventilated area or with a respirator Final Verdict: If you're looking for a top-tier lacquer, the Mohawk Classic Instrument Lacquer is the clear winner. It provides an amazing finish that rivals the best in the industry, and it’s a fantastic option for anyone serious about their guitar refinishing or building projects. Highly recommended! Its sad to say that this lacquer double in price within a year I guess leaving positive reviews can backfire.

Beautiful finish
I use this as the final finish on the gift boxes I make. It dries to a beautifully lustrous finish. I have used it with my air brush and with just a little thinning it sprays on easily. I also use a foam brush to apply it and find that it flows very nicely without leaving brush strokes. Great product with a hard durable finish.

Nectar of the gods
Best lacquer I’ve ever used. Works great with my cheap spray gun and some thinner, creating a gorgeous mirror gloss finish on my guitar. It took me a while to figure out sanding it so it was looking pretty rough at first, but this lacquer just keeps getting smoother and glossier with each coat.

Great quality for instruments
If you have to use lacquer, this stuff is great. I really hate using lacquer though, so I'm going to try using Brite tone in the future- not because I'm unhappy with the results, I just hate the fumes, solvents, and low solids content of lacquer. I painted a guitar body, using trans tints for the color coats and then several coats of clear. A single guitar and neck required the whole can, but I sprayed more coats because I'm inexperienced and didn't want to sand through during my level sanding. It says on the can, but thin at least 30-40% with lacquer thinner. Then either get blush eraser, or add retarder. I did three wet coats per day, and did a light level sand after six, then let dry for two weeks, then six more coats and a final level sand. I think doing a premillnary light level sanding helps speed up the "curing" (aka shrinking) process. After the 12th coat and light level sanding, I didn't have any witness lines after two months. I like what the guitar looks like after I sanded to 1000 grit that I just left it without buffing. It shines up with playwear on the spots that you touch, which gives the guitar a nice used look without dramatic relic-ing.

Mohawk is the best
I make many guitars and have years of experience with furniture and instrument finishing. This Mohawk is the absolute best there is. Lays out nicely. tacks super quick and doesn't run, flows beautiful. Its as good as it gets. The stew Mac stuff is junk. Wont lay out unless heavily coated, then it runs like crazy. Also after a few coats the stew mac lacquer cracks on me. I just had a high end guitar finish all crack to the wood after 3 coats of stew mac lacquer. I stripped and used Mohawk in the same exact conditions and I worked perfectly . Plus stew mac is way over priced like all of their stuff with high shipping. Go with the Mohawk, I would never go back

Technically challenging
Difficult to use. First of all you need the right weather, a day of low humidity is the best. Then you need a couple more items; like some retarder and reducer. One to thin without blushing, the other to slow the drying time and allow a smooth coat with minimal orange peal. You can add some tint to get a beautiful transparent layer. I ended up with a beautiful burgundy transparent finish. It also requires the right application tools, i.e. a good spray gun, booth, and compressor. Good to learn on an old guitar first till you have it down.

Product good shipping uncertain.
Product is excellent but delivery was suspenseful therefore my rating for the company went from one star to five stars. Their guitar lacquer beats the competition by far.
